13:45 this phenomenon is known as patina effect. This happens due to the interaction between the water and metal surface ( not harmful ) . There is so much chemistry behind it .

It's not because of that malayalies usually put a powder type thing called dahashamani (ayuverdic Indian herbs)while boiling water it kills the germs and also adds taste to it.
