An intelligent film maker.Hope he stays true to his craft and gives us more gems like koozhangal which i loved and Kottukaali which i am looking forward to.Tamizh cinema should be proud of this director,self taught and knows what he wants to do.Truly great.
Lot of people questioning the slow, lengthy shot, long still shots of this movie. But come on how many movies are coming out in tamil cinema with this style? Rarely 1 out of 100. So it's good to have this style of movies too. As a whole its great for tamil cinema to have variety of style. Its shows the range of our audience. If you want fast paced commercial movie don't worry there'll be 5 movies running in the next screen you can watch that too. We should not discourage these filmakers if not appreciating. This is healthy for tamil cinema.

Happy to be here among the like minded people. Most of the reviews are negative or positively received from the film fraternity. But this entire conversation is like a conversation of a common man's understanding of this film kottukali. I can relate, happy that most of my understanding from this film is correct and slightly proud of the feeling that I understood art film 😅.

Great thought to change Soori's voice and tone @Vinod. That was his only weakness as his strong accent, and his tone is not intimidating but invokes a laughter and/or displays weakness in previous movies. Soori's dialogue delivery needs to be changed movie to movie, but the change in this film was like cheat-code. I didn't like his monologs in Garudan as it was pulling down the intensity of the whole movie.

Koozhangal is actually d pulling factor and applauds ,it ws engaging, surprising, blown as it's from tamil cinema, created around kottukali.. In an interview Vinodraj told Koozhangal took 2 1/2 years when they actually planned to shoot ,it evolved from d time taken from first writing to shoot... Literally whatever others have about Kottukali my opinion it s shot aesthetically, metaphor, lengthy shots and stay , it wsnt evolved properly.. Convey, conviction watever Vinod s happy to say its fine.. And abt theatrical release it's really ethically not correct, Vinod s brilliant n filmmaking so u can't just force on audience with a festival movie making to mainstream .. And awards n festivals s completely other way around. Berlin r any foreign audience ll look this world new to them.. Which the happy enough to see d new thing as a lifestyle itself a new content for them... But when it comes to native audience tat content is wat thr live daily tats when audience expect surprises, narration and so on... And Vinodraj plz next movie if u wanna show how brilliant u r n filmmaking plz do it on OTT❤❤❤❤
Was meena really in a relationship? I don't think so. If she was in a relationship, I believe the imaginary vision on the bridge would have been different. I believe she didn't want to marry Pandi as she wanted to escape out of this toxic lifestyle.
I like Sudhir. But he completely missed the beauty of this movie. You should watch this (and any movie) like a child. Meaning from innocence and use directors e nudge to venture. Unfortunately Sudhir watches from ideology or morality lens. And loses a uique opportunity to experience as a pandi. Note that literature and cinema are wats to commit crimes without repercussions. So one should be able to travel with all characters without guilt. Then reflect on how we would lead our lives with our wife or career. Example: after watching Aadugalaam Sudhir cab reflect what he would genuinely feel if his protege became more popular. Acknowledging truthfully is best way and lasting way to bring about change. Nuanced understanding is t good us required. So Sudhir here is my request. Throw away your lens you acquired from our own privileged educated City middle class life - and start training to enter new worlds and view from others pov. This lack of seeing from harijan pov or woman pov is reason why crimes happen in real world. How we cannot throw our lens (good or bad) and enter others pov.
