      Brave to face the elements. Very nice finds! Was thinking you may need a tractor for that haul. Incredible! 👍👍👍👍

      I too was very much hoping for a queen helmet but no luck. Those teeth will have to do. It really was awesome despite it being so cold. Thanks so much for watching!

      It was a grueling process behind the scenes, (all the failed attempts, miles upon miles walked) but that is what keeps you going! Thanks so much for watching! :)

    Now that is some hardcore shelling right there! Great finds and well deserved! I hope we can find a whole knobbed whelk one day down here in south Florida. Keep up the great work!

    • @shellstories
      @shellstories  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Yeah that was probably the most extreme I've ever went just to find shells. I think it's definitely possible to find an intact knobbed whelk in south Florida, just more difficult than it is in the north. Good luck on your endeavors! Thanks for watching :)

    Wow! The shells were literally just washing up at your feet! We had a couple of productive trips there on Jan 14th and 15th. Our low tide was just about at sunrise so I'm guessing you were there before we were, or this is just from a couple days ago and you edit quick! We focused on 48&49 because we've had luck there and were prepared to drive. Did you have a cart with you because every time I saw you find another massive whelk I kept thinking how heavy they must be in total!

      It was so cool to finally find a bunch of big whelk shells all in one outing! This was Jan 2022, so last year (I'm just that slow of an editor, LOL). I did not have a cart with me, though that would've been the way to go. It was a long hike back. Over this recent holiday break I took a trip to the "Southern OBX" (Emerald Isle/Beaufort/Shackleford Banks area) and the shelling was great. I had one outing where I found a ton of big shells and had to walk back like 5 miles with them, and it was the most grueling walk of my life. It was worth it though! Thanks so much for watching! :)

      @@shellstories OMG, I am a year behind! You clearly said Jan 2022 in the video and my brain didn’t register that it is now 2023!!!

    Wow! What a haul! I usually go to Sanibel😢in June and wondered if the shelling in outer banks at that time was good? Thanks for sharing your video!

    • @shellstories
      @shellstories  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never been in the Outer Banks in June so can't say from any firsthand experience, but from what I've heard it is not as good as it is in the winter. It makes sense to me since June is tourist season and there are less of the good shell productive northeast winds. I'd say its still worth a shot, but I would think Shakleford Banks at low tide would be the safest option for that time of year. Thanks so much for watching!

    So what lives in the whelks?

    • @shellstories
      @shellstories  ปีที่แล้ว

      Snails, specifically whelk snails. They create the shells!
