The geetham introduces us to small songs and helps us to apply the few tecniques that is taught. Looking into these videos will help in future to apply all the dynamics . Thank you for your sfforts
Namaskaram mam! Thank you so much for these lessons and videos. The sound clarity is too good. I think the first video in this series is very useful and important ( pre-requisite!!) because you've clearly explained some of the techniques ( silent notes, oscillation, push and slide etc ) that are applied to the swarms here. Maybe I am over observing your fingers against the notes :-) Feel so blessed to watch and learn. I haven't reached this song yet, but definitely going to save it for reference :-). Thank you so much again!
Thanks Kousalya for your inputs. You are right about the introductory video on Geethams being the basis for the rest of the series. I wanted to use very simple and repetitive techniques to bring out the Gamakams in all the 8 Geethams that I am planning to post.So what you are seeing in each of these videos are the same 5 techniques that you have mentioned. This entire exercise of putting together Watch And Play Along Series is very laborious and your comments and understanding what I am trying to convey is my biggest motivation to keep going. Thanks! th-cam.com/video/lK2kZw3wVTI/w-d-xo.html
Excellent treat for the years mam....... so sweet that Goddess Saraswathi will readily listen actually amidst her schedule....Without pick up and mic how your veena sounds so perfectly with gamakas mam?pls do reply
Thanks for your observation. My practices involve using the small muscles of my hand to extract the sound. Pick ups take away the natural tone of the acoustic instrument.
Many a times it is the lyrics that determine which note needs to be intonated. For example we use a silent note where there are no lyrical bit in a particular phrase. We do a push or a slide if we have to lift the lyrics and so on... There are no books that talk of gamakam specifics.
.... i am noticing the speed of metronome is set differently for different gitam ... can i know the reason for it .... how we will know that we can play without using metronome
I generally advice students to play Gitam in the second speed only. Two notes /beat. So when you play without the metronome , you arrange the talam on the veena, in a way that it is in the second speed.
This is an example of how well a song can flow when one masters the hand dynamics in veena. Great playing, mam! 👑
Thank you

How do i determine which swaras get gamakam in a raga? And what swaras are important? Are there any books that give this for the 72 melakartas?
