      At work we’re doing industrial IoT sensor analysis across massive fleets and being able to push some pretty complex alarming out the edge is huge for us as a lot of our installs have either really spotty or literally zero internet connectivity. We use some satellite providers to push sensor data and alarm history out :)

      @@NovaspiritTech But wouldn't you off-load the data from the esp11 somewhere in a database? That's why it has wifi, isn't it?
      For most home automation you have Home Assistant and the likes, for more professional environments there are commercial equivalents. For just measuring things like temperature and humidity or switching lights on/off, the esp11 is good enough.
      If you need an autopilot, then I would understand to use a Pico (for power and memory)

      @@michaels8336 ooh now that's interesting, I hadn't seen that - opening up BT would have some very interesting implications as there are devices (e.g. Instapot cookers) which have BT only connections. Imagine that as a kind of gateway to your home automation systems.

    disappointed it's only 2.4ghz wifi. it's only seeing half the wifi spectrum so to speak (not technically speaking). this is supposed to be a new board. there are already products with ac ax wifi 6 etc it could have enumerated in certain projects.
    edit to add:
    currently used an rtl8720dn dev board for its 5ghz & ble capabilities in addition to 2.4ghz. but that board has an issue where you have to manually disable the fw in order to flash arduino code. embedded devices need to grow into the 5ghz spectrum. not many good cheap dev boards out there that just works with the full wifi spectrum & ble.

    • @urineanimal
      @urineanimal ปีที่แล้ว +4

      5ghz is useless for micro controllers. you want lower frequencies for longer range communication. they are not even fast enough to fully utilize 2.4ghz so theres no benefit other than if for some reason you need a less noisey radio environment to work in by using 5hz which dies off faster with distance and obstructions.
