In this video I will talk to you about the rise in superfake handbags but also go through a number of articles written in the news and waht they are saying about the rise of super fake handbags and the wider impacts that come with that, over and above luxury shopping.

Paying 4 digits for a bag is scary enough but for it to be fake, I would be sick. I have decided that if I am going to go as high as 4 digits for a bag, I will save up and go the boutique route.

I love how honest you are about everything. when someone is carrying a *esluxs* and you pass them on the street no one can tell whether is fake or real one because you cannot do this much analysis on it. what I hate about LV and why I stopped buying them is that many people assume your bag is fake when they pass you on the street. It's very annoying. one time a woman walked up to me and actually asked me if my bag was "real". after spending almost 2K on a bag and being asked that question was so offensive i stopped carrying them. People look more at the person carrying the bag and assume wrongly whether is real or fake. it is extremely annoying

Fools are the ones who spend $10,000 on a "real" bag. I have a fake Louis Vuitton doctor's bag that I purchased in Korea in 1987. I walked into Neman Marcus with it. Several employees in the handbag section couldn't believe my bag was fake. They are comparing my *esluxs* to the "real" one and they can't see any difference. Mine cost $40, the real deal was $7500.

Perception is everything, I remember saving up for my first LV and some coworkers automatically thought it was fake because I was a young black girl. At that point I really stopped caring what people's opinions were, people will always have their opinions based on how you look. After this I shopped in *preluxs* . If you drive a Bentley and get out of the car with a fake Hermès, no one will question you.

Brilliant topic. One of the reasons I would never buy a counterfeit is because of the sheer waste. I wouldnt dream of selling it on and therefore it would end up in landfill and contribute even more to our environmental problems. A real plus (for me) of buying genuine bags is that they can be used for years if not by me by someone else. The ebay authentication service is very rigorous and they do refund if there is a query at all. I love buying preloved but have a few well trusted sites and will nearly always look for items that come with the full set including original receipt if possible. However this does make me worry too, so much so that I was actually thinking of training to be an authenticator myself!

Hi Amelia ! If there is a problem with super fake handbags on resale market on line there must be a problem with luxury designer authentication services , especially on websites that serve as an intermediary between a saler and a buyer . Can we really trust their authentication process nowadays ? It is so easy to put a tag " successful authentification " . Personally I really miss physical stores specialized in vintage and pre-loved luxury . They are disappearing . Love your points as usual . Greetings from Paris

I dont have the energy to scour for the best deal and deal with possible returns, etc. So, I always buy in the boutique and I enjoy it more that way and I don't have to second-guessed myself all the time. There’s so many horror stories. Like people buying a Chanel bag from the boutique, getting a super fake copy and then returning it to the store for a full refund (so even the staff can’t tell the real deal from the fake). I’ve certainly bought bags brand new that have clearly been used so the boutiques are obviously quite happy to resell a bag that’s already been returned once. It makes you wonder where is it actually safe to buy from? Then there’s the psychology of it - I read a great article that basically said if you buy a fake you will know it’s a fake when you wear it and you won’t get that sense of pride when you use it so what’s the point buying it in the first place?

    • @seabreeze4559
      @seabreeze4559 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That isn't true. There is no psychology of wearing fake things. Are you wearing shoes designed by the caveman who invented shoes? If not, don't you feel fake wearing shoes? Irrational.

@seabreeze4559 I think it depends who you are as a person - if I bought a fake, it'd be unintentional, if I found out I wouldn't want to wear it even if it fooled 99,9% of people. But if you have the sort of mentality where you think it's okay to con people (and possibly think of those people as muggs), then you're not going to be bothered and are more likely to intentionally buy a fake. Of course there are a myriad of "types" of people in between!

Worrying about how other people spend their money is a pointless venture. That goes for those who buy authentic bags and have opinions about those who buy replicas and say they are stealing. It’s the same as those who buy replicas and say those who buy authentic are getting robbed. People with limited money will save and save to buy authentic and people with unlimited money are buying replicas. People are going to do what they want to, live and let live.

  • @antoa5825

I'm REALLY glad you mentioned the notion of intellectual property in relation to the counterfeit market. So many people talk about big brands and say: "they're billion dollar companies owned by billionaires themselves, who cares if they lose a little money". I always take the time to explain to people that this doesn't matter, theft is theft. It took a designer, or design team, to come up with the idea of that bag, the company had to source the raw materials (which for most big brands means there is some sort of ethical standard), they had to pay those providers and designers, then produce the item, then market it, they have to pay overhead for stores and packaging. The list goes on. There are so many things involved with the idea of getting an item into your hands, and then a shady factory in China turns around pays people $1 per day to ship you that superfake in a plastic bag. Sigh. The prevalence of accounts spamming comments sections for manufacturers of fake bags has also boomed. There is a video where one comment of mine has received more than 20 comments from these accounts. It makes me hesitant to comment on another video on that channel and I'm tempted to remove the comment altogether (and I always report them). Anyway, great topic for discussion.

I’ve only ever bought bags new in boutique. I would never purchase a counterfeit..it is just morally and ethically wrong. I am only open to purchasing preloved if I can physically see the item in person before handing over my money and I would only get something preloved if it’s new/pristine condition. I like to be the one to creates the wear/use on things. To me it’s not worth the risk so I would likely just continue to purchase in boutique no matter the price/brand/level of difficulty to get. The fact that many of these luxury brands are outsourcing the construction of luxury handbags to facilities in China & India, then simply adding the finishing embellishments in Italy (or wherever their brand is located) makes it easier for nefarious people to steal the actual designs to manufacture dupes. These brands have created this problem themselves in the greed of garnering extreme profits. Gone (sadly for many luxury brands) are the days of a single artisan hand crafting a luxury bag as was the case back in the days before giant conglomerates acquired these brands. Imo.

Oh my goodness, loving your videos even more as of late!!
If it helps anybody else out there, hesitate even trusting a reputable large reseller at this point. I got bitten by this last year. I had a sneaky suspicion that I had a super fake. It was dog gone good. But there were things about it that I noticed they were small, but they were not accurate to the bag. I took it to somebody from that company and they worked with me and we eventually did get a refund. It took a process, and I was more than happy to keep if they had no pause that it was authentic, but if not, need to be willing to refund this. I was not willing to pay the money that was charged over retail for a super fake. Since then, I have bought very few pre-loved handbags. I occasionally still look, but look for things that are very unique harder to replicate.
I honestly don’t care if somebody buys a fake or super fake. At least know that it’s an inspiration as somebody else had use that word in an earlier comment. But passing it off as the real thing for over retail is not OK and just adds to the problem.

I have four luxury bags, all bought from official retailers (Net-a-Porter, Matches), the boutique or outlet boutique. I did the same. I too am not familiar with Gucci and LV is my top choice of purchase for lux bags. I got the bag on eBay and immediately, for whatever reason, regretted this purchase and tried to cancel. Wasn’t even five min later. They said they couldn’t cancel the order. I said, well, okay. I poo pooed about it and then decided to come on to YT to see the purse and see how others viewed it. Well. What stuck me as strange was I only saw two videos about it which was weird becuase it was the Marmont but they called it something like (not the name) but, Marmont II but it was a fancy name. Anyway. What stuck me was the two videos were not “English” based. Again, hmm. Well. The bag came, it was nice. It smelled like leather, but still..l felt something was off. I IMMEDIATELY went to have it auth and was told it was a fake. I contacted the company that sold it, said it was authentic. I contacted eBay and they did nothing. I got on eBay and blasted them. Let’s just say, I got my money back and I closed the card used to place the order. They asked that I send the bag back. And I did with no problem. Four months later after all of the drama, I get a package. They could not deliver it back to the address the company gave me and I got the purse back. I threw the purse in the trash 😡

I never used it. I never used it because Dior is my favorite brand, and I always thought, "this isn't a Dior bag, it's only a bag that says Christian Dior across the front." In February, I got an authentic one, and I feel so happy and good when I carry it because it's a bag from my most beloved brand. The feeling was so different even though no one would know the fake I had was a fake. The ONLY noticeable difference is the handle on the real one is softer. That was it. Great topic! What are your thoughts on Vintage resale. Do you think it's safer?

Hi Amelia! I admit it sounds kinda tempting to buy a fake. I’ve even looked at them online. I can’t afford a real luxury bag so…problem is the stories I’ve heard about “who” makes these. I have heard that sex trafficking is very prevalent in this industry which is an issue that pulls at my heartstrings. I also realized I’d be buying one for only the name. Not quality, etc. Just my two cents! Love you!

Remember, it’s not who just makes them, it’s the network that distributes them. The scary warehouses run by criminals that house the “goods” along with probably drugs and other illegal trafficked goods. And i’m sure most of the money makes it into these organizations hands and not the sewers. It’s like the farmer getting pennies, and the distributer making loads selling the tomato to Tesco.

I always say the same thing, but knock offs are a huge no, no. It's not fair to the fashion houses who have worked so hard to get where they are.

That's the funniest thing I've ever read. So many deserving brands and fashion houses have died over the past century or so and you assume the ones we presently have are the most deserving? A lot of them stayed there via corruption, Chanel is one obvious example. She happily let people starve by pushing her perfume onto German trains when they had food shortages in certain camps. Yes, those camps.

I wish there was a way for the counterfeit industry could be stopped (it can’t) and I think the preloved market will continue to suffer as a result.
