The less you know about a special unit, whether military or police, the more you can draw conclusions about its level of performance. The less the higher. The SAS doesn't need a "humpa humppa perpetrator" and the potential opponent knows what to expect. If you're intelligent, you'd rather avoid confrontation.
Some are still very, very stupid.

Had the attackers threatened only the Iranian staff, I'm not sure where my sympathies would lie (especially in 1980). This was the year the Iranians took over the US Embassy in their country as well as holding hostage the Arabs these "terrorists" were conducting their operation to free. In this SAS operation the Brits essentially were playing by 1st world civilized rules whereas the Iranians back in Iran were not.

They didn't smoke 6 dudes, they rescued 19 hostages. killed 5 terrorists and captured 1 terrorist. Getting the basic facts wrong in the title doesn't bode well for the quality does it? lol. hostage they captured mixed in with the hostages as they where evacuated into the garden. When the real hostages identified hi to the SAS he was taken back into the embasy, where he was to become the sixth dead hostage. But orders came over the radio that press where everywhere and to hand him off to the Police.
