@@georgemartin813 theres very conflicting reports though its hard to say for sure the Jazz and Rickenbacker can sound similar, so can the Hofner and Rickenbacker depending on the tone used The one Bass used in the Beatles with the most distinguishable sound is the Fender 6 string Bass that John and George used on some songs

Use a jazz bass with both pickups on and the tone open, play with a pick near to the neck and use flat strings, that's how I play this song (for Helter Skelter is also valid, not exacly the same sound because John used a VI bass, but it sounds very similar)

Yes, you need mute with palm or sponge.
