I remember watching Cliff on the news when he was running that race. He was a legend; sorely missed.

Cliffy did beat the record by two days, had competed before with no success but his tenacity, stamina and will to win was his secret..He and his entourage came into my store in Melbourne after completing this amazing feat and I couldn't believe this little weatherbeaten man had done what nobody else had been able to do previously...God Bless You Cliffy, you were and still are my hero.

A little less than 600 miles, Jack. The story is like a legend now and has changed over time. I wrote the picture book and did as much research as I could, but it was still difficult to determine the truth. What is important is the inspiration Cliff Young brought us. My picture book is still in print after 15 years, THE PUMPKIN RUNNER, and won many awards, including Smithsonian Notable book. He broke the record by over 2 days, btw.

540 miles by road. I watched it live here in Sydney, Australia.

He broke the record by 2 days!! Not 12 hours.

This is incorrect, Cliff Young didn't break the record by 12 hours, he broke the record by almost 2 days with a time of 5 days, 15 hours and 4 minutes.

Left out the fact that Cliff young ran 20-30km's everyday for most of his life because he loved running. Wasn't like he woke up one day and decided to try running and started with a race.

Yeah Cliff never had a coach or talked to an elite runner, never understood anything about long distance running, never read a book on it or never read runners world........HE ALSO NEVER WENT TO ANY JACKASS MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER.

Don't let the truth get in the way of a great story. Perfect example of why you shouldn't listen to clowns like this bloke.
