Just beautiful to hear his daughter sing. S Winwood was my favorite performer back in the 60 and 70’s. Never had a crush - just thought he was the most unique performer. Now, in my aging years I am inspired and by his captivated by his talent.
Oh I REMEMBER this Album WELL...I was ALL of 17 in 1970.. Was in U.S. Army stationed at West Point N.Y. Worked as a Medic at the Hospital there..Was turned on to Maryjane & Beer... A BUNCH of us LOVED this Band from START 2 FINISH....
All I can say is wow Steve Winwood is one hell of a talent and his daughter has a fantastic voice they did hire love together oh my god gave me goosebumps great job guys
Steve Wynwood certainly taught his daughter Lilly well. They sing great together. Reminds me of the early days when he performed with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker. Fond memories.
@@stevewinwood4279, one of your greatest songs, indeed. Albeit I never learned to play the guitar correctly I will try to play this wonderful melody on guitar. 🙂
This song is loosely based on the tale 'The Resurrection of the Corn King' It was about Barley being used to replace the three grains used to make whiskey.
I saw the Chicago stop on this tour. Lilly opened for him and was great, but the locals were really drunk and talking a lot, so I could hardly hear her from row 13. I was so pissed because I really wanted to hear what I might see from someone growing up with a dad like that. Curt Smith of Tears for Fears doing Mad World with his daughter Diva is a great example. Look it up.
As great a performance as this is, I can't help but miss the late Jim Capaldi, who used to sing this song's harmonies with Steve back in their Traffic days. Oh well, life moves on, and it's wonderful to see younger generations carrying the torch. Lilly does her Dad proud!
The sadistic manner of detail in describing what happens to John Barleycorn by the different parties involved in turning barley into an alcoholic beverage can be analogized to the song of the suffering servant from the Bible's prophet Isaiah, Chapter 53 and leave it to you to decide whether that was in fact referring to a real person.
The human life cycle with all its ups and downs, filled with mountain s of aspirations snd valleys of tears is indeed a beautiful thing.Conscious existence is a a loving gift given freely only to hold and cherish and to give thanks.
@@annakimborahpa I don't know. But I'm glad the drunks of England or Scotland turned it into a beautiful drinking song. (Fairport did it in the original major key, th-cam.com/video/A2LXOjO5zVI/w-d-xo.html at 2:12, and I think I like it better.)
@@NoSnoozeBlues1 I met you on the ledge and took a listen. Music wise, Fairport's version is entirely different and "a beautiful drinking song." Traffic's minor key version is a dramatic and suspenseful narrative that culminates with "and little Sir John in the nut brown bowl proved the strongest man at last", whereas Fairport repeats that line in their major key refrain numerous times. Both versions are memorable. Traffic was always unstable as a group, but Fairport became a phenomenon of longevity.
John Barleycorn must die a great album 1976 I think but could be a couple years older this album holds some good memories. Poor Chris Wood died so young but was a great flautist Sax and Woodwind musician
Keke I heard 0 disrespectful and I'm a father myself. It was the young lady's INCREDIBLE performance for which the audience members were showing their appreciation. To hear and see such a GREAT, GREAT musician's craft on display in his own child is a true thing of beauty. He taught her well.
Wonder how many souls (females-to-be) were lined up to be Steve’s daughter? He is the most level headed to emerge out of the insane hippie days with a moral compass and humility … who would raise his family free of all the usual drama.

Jim Capaldi & Chris Wood would be extremely proud
@@grangrampa832 Me too!
Lots of talent in the Winwood family. Her harmony is terrific.
Almost in tears from how happy this makes me feel.
Me too, actually did tear up.
This song, sung by Steve Winwood,, is glorious. I don't have the words to describe how much I love this song.

It's a clever allegory, that's all. Nothing at all to do with the 'Corn King' - which is fanciful nonsense.

Magnificent!
Providence , was indeed, good to Steve Winwood.
The guys in the audience should have been forewarned, Lilly is Stevie's little girl!
oh i think they would know that. Remember he is not Jason Momoa or Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson
Did they catcall her? Gross.
