    Great video, thanks. My dad and I are trying this next weekend in the Mississippi up here in Iowa. WE do a lot of catfishing but have never done the trotline yet. Thanks for the help. Remember, Catfishing is like bass fishing, but for men.

      It’s a part of a vehicle that is used as an anchor. Main thing is that it needs to be heavy. We use things that we don’t mind losing in case someone else helps themselves and take our stuff. The wheel rotors he’s using are old and wont be used on a vehicle.

      It is an absolute blast for the kidos. My kids are why I started trotlinning again. I couldn't get the kids to go catfishing because they got bored. Now they love going. Right now is limb line and jug time though. Not many fish in the bottom because of the thermocline. You can still catch one here and there, but big number catches are best in early and late spring.

    Cute lil fish you draw,. Lol. I would think it would be easier to get the hooks and leaders all on, and then wrap it all around a large pc of cardboard so they don't tangle up. Bait them and then take it to where it's going to be used. I used to catch snapping turtles this way, using a chunk of bacon and a big hook. and strong line.

    Just a little advice but using just one Brake Rotor is not enough Weight and it more work trying to tighten the main line over and over again and I use 2 8 inch cement blocks at each end of the main line and it works Very Good most of the Time and it also depends on what kind of bottom that in the Area of the Lake or River and I tie a rope from the Cement Blocks for a certain distance and that depends on how Deep is the Water so that You not pulling up on the Cement Blocks and it Works Great from My Experience and Opinion and I also like to run down the main Channel and Sometimes I use a Drag to get the Main Line instead of the Floats because Sometimes a Sorry Bastard will Steal Your Fish.

    • @GeorgiaAssassin
      @GeorgiaAssassin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rotars work great for me, I never retighten. Probably because I don’t trot in high current. Where I fish is little to none. I’m always worried about someone steeling my fish or mainly bass fishermen cutting my line. So far so good though…. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    I use method 4 all the time. I use SS screw eye bolts that I screw into the tree below the water line. I use snap shackles on the end of my lines. This way no one can see my lines ....and it is secure. Excellent video

    2 questions. 1) what size is your mainline? 2) where do you buy your supplies?

    • @GeorgiaAssassin
      @GeorgiaAssassin  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of my lines are Magic Bait, 25 hook trotlines from Walmart. This is because if you were to buy the clips, hooks, swivels and line separate anywhere else you would pay a lot more.
      As I replace the lines and have the hooks, swivels etc.. I have bought from both Memphis net and twine ( good people) and Amazon. If you are making your own trots just remember that your main line has to be able to hold the weight of however many drops you plan to add combined.
      I’ll be setting out my lines next week. Should get a lot of action this time of year. Good luck, and thanks for watching!

      I saw those beads, too and wondered how he got them on there. Maybe substitute those little lead folding sinkers, like pacman sinkers, Lol. Maybe that line comes w those beads already on it. They'd have to be pinched so they don't slide..or gued or some other way to keep em in place. That's why I say those tiny pacman like sinkers would work.

    How long are you supposed to leave the line out for and what should you bait the hooks with

    • @GeorgiaAssassin
      @GeorgiaAssassin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      24 hours soaking is ideal but that depends on what's legal in your area. I would do a minimum of 12 hours with circle hooks. If you are using J hooks you could check every couple of hours. I check often while using anything other than circle hooks.
      My go to trotline bait is chicken breast. I put it in a gallon freezer bag with minced garlic, let it sit overnight. Shrimp works well also but it's $$. If you want to catch flathead you'll need to use large minnows or fresh cut Shad.
      If the water temp is 80+ limb lines are king. Trots work best in the spring - mid summer.
      Good luck!!

    Will the way you do a TROT LINE .
    I CAN PUT IN 2 (50) HOOK TROT LINE BAIT BOTH OF MY LINE'S AND BE LOADING UP MY BAOT .BY THE TIME YOU START BAITING YOUR (4) 25 TROT LINE'S
    I WOULD USE A 18 WHEELER RIM ON BOTH ENDS AND JUST TO KEEP THE LINE UP OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE LAKE OR RIVER
    I USE A 1 IN. X 5X5 STIERPHOM BLOCK WITH A 3FT LINE AND A SMALL BRINK OR 5LB. WD WAITS AND I USE A GRAG HOOK

    • @GeorgiaAssassin
      @GeorgiaAssassin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Success with a trotline depends on the water temp this time of year. Once the water warms trotlines aren't very effective due to the thermocline. You'll need to use a floating trot, jugs, or limb lines if the water is around or over 80 degrees.

    Did I miss the other parts of this series? How do you know where to set your line out ?

    • @GeorgiaAssassin
      @GeorgiaAssassin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      floydaltonmiller , I try to find a bend in the river or ( if you are fishing in a lake) an area where the water drops off to around 10-15' or more within 50 yds of the bank ( depends on your trotline length). In my experience a gradual drop is key. In addition I like to lay trotlines beside a downed tree in the water or an area that has a lot of brush on the bottom. Fresh cut or live bait = Flathead in this type of area. You will catch channel and blues as well. You could also use some kind of chicken parts soaked with chopped or minced garlic. This is my go to bait for trotlines. Thanks for watching, and good luck fishing!

    Every trotline needs floats to keep your bait off the bottom

    • @GeorgiaAssassin
      @GeorgiaAssassin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never used floats and catch tons of fish. The only time floats should be considered for trot lines is when the thermocline takes the air on the bottom away in late summer.
