    Apparently, this unit sold for $53,900 at the Scottsdale B-J auction in Jan 2017. This is what a car looked like the year I was born. If only my body could be rehab'd the way this car was.

    I used to think that 55 Chrysler Imperial is super gorgeous but nope 51 took the lead!! The more early years of Chrysler we will head toward the more gorgeous we will ring!! I loved the dash!! Dash is so........... ornamental!

      Most early 1950's automobiles are always better than the middle and later, people don't realize because they never look past 1955, or the name Chevrolet 1955. In other words most people on earth think there was basically 3 companies that made automobiles and they only look at a 1955-56-57 chevrolet, or a Cadillac 1959, and a Hudson Hornet 1952. And never look past that to actually care and learn history about the 1950's. I hardly bet anyone realizes that these are period stock tires either.

      @@WitchKing-Of-Angmar Personally, I prefer the Exner Forward Look cars of Chrysler Corp. 1955-1962 from a purely design standpoint, but the early 1950s Chrysler cars, which were short on beauty of design but high in quality and engineering, are very interesting also. However, there are few cars as ugly as a 1951-52 Plymouth.

    Such a beautiful car! Thanks for sharing your appraisal.
    Great camera work too. Too many TH-cam vintage car videos feature camera movements that make it difficult to look at the car...zooming in/out repeatedly and moving to/fro at breakneck speeds. This video was far more enjoyable for not falling into these traps. Well done.

    Love the bumpers on this car. Not over done, but very elegant and stylish, what great looking bumpers should look like on a luxury car like this. Really a lot of great detail all around. Only draw back to this car that I see is the placement of the spare. It appears to block out quite a lot of trunk space on the right fender. Perhaps mounting the tire over the rear trunk shelf would have given the trunk more room.

    I own a 1953 Imperial which is my `daily' driver (twice a week) and fully appreciate what differentiates quality automobiles like this from the hideous, modern junk made by robots from re-cycled pop cans. It ALWAYS starts on the second turn , no matter how cold, and NEVER BREAKS DOWN ! there are not even any body rattles which is hardly surprising as these were the last of the Briggs bodies made for Chrysler. GLORY BE TO THE GREAT DAYS OF AMERICAN AUTOMOBILES.

    The Imperial Crown came out in 57, the Crown Imperial was a limousine-sized car. The "crown" emblems simply meant royally prestigeous.

    • @TheDejael
      @TheDejael ปีที่แล้ว

      The Imperial Crown made its debut as a 1950 model, but they were so exclusive, they sold in such limited numbers and now are super rare so that they are nearly extinct as a species from 1950 to 1954. There were none built 1955-56, so when the 1957 models came out, they seemed like a new model making their debut, which was a good selling point for Chrysler's all-new Imperial line as a separate make.

    This entire car was designed by Bill Robinson of Briggs Auto Body Company of Chicago, for Chrysler Corp. Very rare car! Before Exner became involved in the production cars. Exner was a part time design consultant for Chrysler at that time, reporting to Chrysler CEO K.T, Keller, so he was only minimally involved, and was still working at Studebaker via the Raymond Loewy Studio.

      Had a buddy in high school whose dad was a Chrysler dealer...an Imperial Crown was a sedan or a Coupe. A Crown Imperial was the stretch limousine that Chrysler had built on special order by Ghia in Italy. Mamie Eisenhower's last White House car was a 1960 Crown Imperial and it was later used to transport Jacqueline Kennedy.

      Chrysler's Fluid Drive was a hybrid manual-to-automatic transmission available on their cars from 1941 to 1953, when they introduced Hy-Drive for 1953-54, their first automatic transmission, which was replaced mid-year 1954 by the much improved Powerflite.

    The narrator has no idea what a "Crown" Imperial is as well as what was standard and optional on a 1951 Imperial. Much of what he says is not accurate. I give him credit for trying, but he is not informed about 1951 Imperials.

      ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, THE 1951''' CROWN''' IMPERIALS WERE ALL 8 PASSENGER LIMOS .THE'' IMPERIAL'' ONLY BADGE WAS WORN BY SEDAN 4DR; COUPE 2DR; HARDTOP 2DR; AND CONV. IN 1952 THEY ADDED A 4DR IMPERIAL TO THE CROWN LINEUP .BUT HE WAS CORRECT THAT THEY MADE 650 CONV.IN 1951

      I sure as he'll wouldn't know either. I was born in 1952. I can tell you what was standard starting with 62 Imperial Crowns. The Crowns were well appointed base models that competed with Cadillac DeVilles. In 67 an Imperial post sedan was introduced below the Crown. It was a nice car that competed with the Cadillac Calais. They had base prices without options of about $5100.

    IMPERIAL by Chrysler, NOT a Chrysler Imperial.

    • @TheItsmegp46
      @TheItsmegp46 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Gary G. Reese wrong. Chrysler spun off Imperial as its own division starting with the 1955 model year. Before that Imperial was just a step up from New Yorker. But unlike say Cadillac, Imperial was never sold in its own dealership. They were sold right next to Chrysler’s price leader Windsor. So the buying public never made the disconnect and still referred to the car as a Chrysler Imperial.
