@@ericc7936 The DC generators in the top right need to be turned off its missed from the checklist in the PDF files but it does match other aircraft procedures as most can't have any load on th eengines until they are spooled up
Excellent video, I really appreciate the explanations for each action. A video for approach and landing for the Dash 8 would be great. I think there has been a fair amount of discussion about the "upgrade" and it seems it will be a brand new aircraft rather than an upgrade.
The next videos will cover takeoff, climb and cruise, navigation with the default FMS, and descent, landing and shut down. It will be interesting to see how close the new Dash 8 will be to the Majestic.

Oops I haven t noticed your reply untill now....sorry for that. like I said ,I find the updated version much more enjoyable , because it has more features working and all the view textures have improved to more realism,but to be honest My request to you would be to do full tutorials on this plane once fly J Sim has released an update that makes this aircraft simulated in depth like the Majestic in FSX
Awesome tutorial....really learned alot.....this is a beautiful aircraft....as much as I'm a XP11 now fan....sadly compairing this aircraft to p3d version...Research Lem. Is soarly lacking especially seeing that this is a payware aircraft...I purchased it with high expectations.....I do hope they have updates for this plane...otherwise not that much fun flying it....but your tutorial encourage me to give it another shot.
The aircraft is quite old. There is a new version under development but there is no definite date for release. As I recall it's aimed to be comparable to the Majestic Dash 8.
FSX is outdated and lots of people can't afford paying 300+ USD for a slightly different FSX. (Lockheed owns the code for FSX). And the addon variety for both sims is great but why pay so much for addons when you can get a much better more modern sim with X-Plane 11 for cheaper. The addon variety is still big but you don't have to spend as much for different things because X-Plane 11 comes with a great default scenery and if you can't really afford scenery you can just purchased planes that are high quality from aerosoft, flyjsim and etc while still enjoying ground scenery.
why is there a red nose wheel steering caution light on the panel while I am flying. The steering works fine ,gear retracts fine, just can't get the light off.
The startup wasnt completely correct. For the startup, you leave the prop condition levers in the fuel cutoff position. Then you start the engine and at about 15% rpm, you put the prop cond. levers to idle. The rest was explained very good!
I wouldn't recommend the Dash 8 until the new version is released. The SSG E170 might be a good alternative. I like the PC-12, but that's a smaller aircraft.

I recall ,you did a great series on Beachcraft B 200 .Happy ,that you ve now started doing this aircraft.You won't find many tutorials on the Q 400 (there is one series in FSX on You Tube by "Flight Sim Guides")Fly J Sim says they (he is) are still working on the fully featured version of the X plane Q 400.The latest update was quite an improvement. I ve now started flying this aircraft, so very glad you re doing this one.
Hopefully the X-Plane update will be similar to the Majestic version on FSX/P3D. I think the earliest we might expect that is Q1 2018, though, and I think even that is hopeful. More videos to come on the B200 after I complete the Cessna 172 series.

I also had issues getting it to start, and it turns out you have to hit F6 before they will fire. Ty for the tutorial on this aircraft, I love how you explain the systems as well while you are going along.
Great detailed video, but the engine start steps dont work for me. Engine 2 starts fine, but 1 starts then stops quickly, and the engine selector switch freezes on "1" :( Edit: Reloaded the plane and it works again lol
Hi I am doing same as you and after eng starting my condition lever is stuck at Start & Feather, only moving towards fuel off and not above and Throttle is stuck at Disc. No movemen not even with joystick and mouse. Is there something I am doing wrong or its a game problem
My Q400 (V2.1703.1050) for X-Plane 11.30 has problems starting the engines. What am I doing wrong? Please help; I love this aircraft beyond this and used it frequently back in X-Plane 10.
I haven't found a POH online. I assume the developers get procedures from real world pilots. But it's not surprising the actual POHs aren't being shared.

I don't know if I could explain more about the aircraft than is contained in these videos. I think if you follow the tutorials that should give you a basic understanding of how to operate it. I haven't spent much time with it aside from the tutorials. The aircraft has certain issues, so generally I'd recommend waiting for the next version of the aircraft before investing significant amounts of time with it. Hopefully the next version will be close to Majestic standards.

supanova yeah, thanks. I found it out. Just had to disable packs and gens and they started perfectly fine! Thanks for the tutorials tho! I used them and now have flown over 4 flights in the dash 8 (started with it today)
I wouldn't worry too much about the hydraulics. They didn't make much sense to me at the time, and I don't think they will do until the next version is released.

I confirm that on xp11 you need to set off the generators before starting the engines.

I will probably continue this series around the time the update should be released. But, of course, there are no guarantees it will be.

Out of this an the E175 what you recommend for domestic and short haul flights something easy to use but fast

Why is the APU bleed air turned OFF for engine start? Seems opposite of jet start ups...
I wouldn't worry too much about it with this version of the aircraft.

The aircraft is quite old, and it has had numerous issues in the past. I don't know whether the previous guidance for starting it still works.

I fixed it by turning off the the DC GEN 1 and 2, at the top left of the screen, before starting as depicted.
That has been a problem with the aircraft for a while with XP11. Glad to hear you found the workaround.
