Hey Everyone! First and foremost, thank you all so much for the love I have received on this video!! Function of Beauty actually watched this video and reach out to me to collaborate with them on creating a new Custom CoWash! I worked directly with the research and development team AND the chemists to create the CoWash. It was a really wonderful process and I am very proud of what we have created. The link to my full video introducing the new product and explaining the creation process is here: th-cam.com/video/Vjs9OUXhweg/w-d-xo.html And you can shop the new CoWash here: bit.ly/3syqwDv opportunitywouldn't Simone
Yo but you working with them after trash talking them says something about you surely if you don't believe on what they do then why are you doing works with them. They are legit sponsoring your work right now
Isopropyl alcohol acts as a solvent, preservative, and can increase product penetration. Plus, after around the first 5 ingredients, the concentration percentage drops to 1% and less. So having isopropyl alcohol after the 7th or 8th ingredient usually means it has a negligible amount in the product, and was only put in there to help the other ingredients function properly. I know sometimes we all hear these trends of what's safe, and what isn't, what's safe again, and what's back to being unsafe (parabens, petroleum, silicones, alcohol, etc). A lot of them are just trends ppl hop on w/o doing their own research. It's def a good idea to be mindful of the presence of alcohol in your hair/skin products, and how much was used in a formulation. But you don't have to fear simple alcohols across the board because sometimes they are important for a product to work effectively, it just depends.
You make a good point about the alcohol. I also understand that it wasn't a super active ingredient but I don't believe in using alcohols at all because they are dying to the hair. Thank you for the information though! Its helpful!
@@SimoneNicole You're adorable btw. You have a baby face+ black don't crack, so you ain't aging for yrs 😅. But yeah, I'm so glad you didn't think my comment was in a mean way, I was scurred 🤪. You have an awesome personality though, I love when we can all learn from each other. Look forward to watching and learning more from your videos ❤️
Simone Nicole yeah but she’s saying the alcohol in that specific product is negligible so it wouldn’t have the drying effect on your hair that you’re afraid of ❤️ it’s okay if you still choose to not use products that contain it but you may be missing out on great hair products due to an unnecessary fear (as long as its far down on the list like the original comment said)
Hello! I've studied chemistry, and an entire course on silicones, on University so if your questions still stand, please hear me out! 1) Isopropyl Alcohol - this one is used in a tiny amount as a solvent to some of the oils in your conditioner! It binds to the oils and makes it smoother to apply your conditioning products. Don't worry they won't damage your hair that way! 2) "Water soluble silicones" - No silicone is water soluble. By arranging different molecules and attaching them to your silicone, sometimes you can "trick" water to accept the silicones by altering their structure to be polar or amphiphilic. Silicones are not biodegradable BUT they are nontoxic and does not affect ocean life. Waste water treatment centers have very efficient chemical filters to catch silicones since they are easily separated by sedimentation.
Thanks for this explanation. I love the ocean and happy they are filter but on my hair 👀 lol. What effect do silicones have? Can my hair absorb other products properly after silicone in early products like conditioner and leave-in?
Thanks for this. I also thought that she was overly angsty about the isopropyl alcohol thing because alcohol can be organic solvent for these products and that just gives me the feeling that she was trying too hard to prove a point.
Thank you for your explanation. I was very confused in why she seem to hate silicon since it's non-toxic. I literally thought that she was talking about polyethylene.
only youtuber i watch that'd been sponsored by function of beauty is bernadette banner and she at least shows the amount in the bottle's decreasing lol. dont get why people show sponsored products still perfectly intact all the time. even for the first time ever at least show it's been used a little bit. makes the whole ad a wee bit more believable.
I know a girl, Trin who she's done 2 videos and the 1st video she did for them her bottles were almost empty. The 2nd video they were full cyz she just got them but later did an update on snap cuz she got a new formula and it was halfway done.
I never received my product. They notified me that the address wasn't working. I emailed costumer service many times... but they ignored me and yesterday I got the notification that they'd donate the money I paid, as they didn't get an answer from me.. like what?! And at the same time they keep spamming me with "How do you like your products?"- emails... The audacity, I tell ya.
this happened to me too !!! literally what the fuck. they never sent me my product the first time I ordered and when i followed them up they never responded. I then sent them a follow up email a few weeks later and they told me that they definitely sent it out and that I should have received it already. I asked if they could resend it since I never received it and they said no. I reordered again, however they emailed me saying the address was incorrect even though I remember putting in my exact address??? They then told me that they sent it back bc the address was wrong. I sent them another email and they literally never responded. The whole experience was weird and sketchy omg
it’s so nice to see a review from a black girl...even tho i’m white i have noticed the lack of diversity in who they sponsored and was curious to see how it reacted to a different hair texture
I love it! I've used it for months. My shampoo has great slip. The biggest thing is to look at the ingredients for each quality you click. For instance: my hair doesn't like coconut oil so I didn't select hydration. I picked deep condition instead.
Btw the conditioner is amazing. I use it as a deep conditioner and leave it in. However, I get dye free and fragrance free. I don't suggest leaving the dyed and fragrance versions on your hair. They seem to use a lot of dye; it could discolor your hair and irritate your scalp.
@@artchick07 oh maybe that's the thing that made people's hair fall out or get damaged the dye well I think it's important to do research before buying it because if I got it and didn't know these things I'd be mad
@@tionnajohnson8430 the dermatologist told me my hair is falling out because my scalp was severely inflamed. She told me to try dye and fragrance-free items then recommended function of beauty. She's black with natural hair.
@@Ash1eonYT Fun fact, literally almost every product ever has fragrance/aroma/perfum in it, and the manufacturers aren't obligated to specify what exactly it is. Function of beauty is far from being the only company that withholds information about their ingredients
AshliiBee Actually they replied in a comment in that video of Candace from buzzfeed and said it’s all natural vegetable based dye. It’s vegan friendly dye.
Anastasis Studios All I know is that it’s vegan. I used to tint eyebrows for Benefit Cosmetics when I worked at ULTA and we used the brand Intensive which uses vegan vegetable based dye.
When I read “not sponsored” and “function of beauty” I have never clicked so fast!!!! so happy I did you’re so much fun to watch and you’re giving such a detailed review UGH! Where have you beeeeeen all my life
this brand made my hair drier, irritated my scalp, and gave me crazy tangles. I used it for about 6 months? before noticing. I always wondered how it would work on different hair types since I have a lot of super fine straight hair and already struggled with tangles. glad to see an actual honest review especially for curly hair.
I had the same issues. My hair is very fine, thinning, oily and some of it curls. My shampoo and conditioner from function of beauty made my hair super oily even quicker than the 24 hours it usually takes. My ends felt really dry which isn't something I experience usually. After a while I stopped using the conditioner on my roots (the instructions to me to) b Thinking that was why I was so oily. It didn't help. So I have 2 mostly full bottles of product that don't work for me. Also, i got a tropical scent and think I wanted a strong scent and you could barely smell it. I got in touch with the company but had left it too long for a refund...which annoyed me because it takes a good while to see if a product is right for you. I am really disappointed because I have been aware of the company for years and was so excited when I saw they were finally shipping to the UK.
I have the same hair type and it’s hard to find products that makes my hair soft and voluminous but not oily. Acure is the best brand I’ve found so far. Is there one that you love?
I convinced my parents to let me buy this for my birthday and I was really excited but then really let down by the product. Just like you it irritated my scalp, tangled my hair more than usual and didn’t achieve my hair goals at all. Im really glad to know that its not just me doing it wrong cause im “young and dumb” and not applying it right
@Harbor Anthem it's just a term people use in the textured hair community to specify non-permed hair..... nobody is saying other hair types are unnatural
@@orionsgirl9750 women who are curly, Coily or kinky use that term when they're going back to the natural state of their hair. It's been a term that's been used for as long as I can remember growing up.
Function of beauty made my hair fall out, caused breakage, and clogged the pores on my scalp. As soon as I stopped using it all those problems went away. When I mentioned this to customer service they only gave me a 50% discount and asked me to donate the products to a shelter or give to a friend. I was not going to torture anyone else with these products. I threw them in the trash.
Same I've had super healthy hair my entire life and as soon as I tried FOB I started getting breakage, super stringy hair and just way more prone to damage to the point I had to chop a few inches off the bottom of my hair and I threw away their products and as soon as I switched back to my original products my hair went back to being its normal healthy self. Their stuff is just crap filled with artifical colour and fragrance and a massive scam.
Wait . But why would they ask you donate or give to a friend when it’s supposed to be specially made for the customer ordering . That literally defeats the purpose lmao . I would’ve thrown them out as well .
Why would they suggest giving opened hygiene products to a shelter? No one wants used/opened hygiene products. Women in shelters deserve new products just like everyone else.
Function of Beauty absolutely trashed my hair. I'm still trying to fix the damage a year later. It's like my cuticle are just wide open. They mat and tangle. I have 3 feet of hair and I'm super upset. I left a bad review on a fb ad and they said they dm'd me to help solve it and all they wanted me to do was buy a new formulation. Absolute garbage. Edited to add that I'm white, my daughter is mixed though and if it was that bad on my hair I couldn't imagine using it on hers of my husband using it. Literally the worst.
I’m glad to see a person with textured hair doing this review!! All of the sponsors I’ve seen have been by people with straight as hell hair that could probably wash it with dish soap and have it still be silky.
As someone with bone straight, thin hair, I will say I have to be just as careful about what goes on my hair if I want it to look good. (I watch all the curly hair videos to figure out what the hell to do with my son's curly hair. Two entirely different procedures to be sure!)
Straight hair definitely does not do ok with soap lol but maybe this brand is just better on straight hair. I have had a lot of luck with this brand. My hair is really straight; I cannot ever get it to curl. My hair dries out easily because I do not cut it and it's hard for me to find a good product for my type of hair. This works for me. My hair is shiney and soft with it. It's interesting how vastly different hair can be.
@@elliewellie_TH-cam pricey and not worth the price are different. It's pricey, but for me lasts a very long time and makes a huge difference in my hair so absolutely worth it.
@@elliewellie_TH-cam That's not what you said. Your original comment has a negative connotation to it. You're basically saying "it's not worth the money because it's bad", but Saafiya said "it's good if you can/want to afford it".
the price put me off majorly. idc how good the shampoo is, to me personally, there's nothing it could do that would make me pay that sort of money for SHAMPOO💀
I bought it, it is nothing special. The price wasn’t anything that bothered as I usually spend more on schampoo, but I did not like the scgampoo or conditioner. I like my davines, Amika and Maria Nila schampoo much more for the same price
I almost ordered, same scent too, and then i said wait a minute let me see if there are any black youtubers reeviews about this brand. Thankd God and thank you. ❤️ From Germany
This is the first video of yours I'm watching and I just wanted to say: *thank you for turning the background music way down!* Also, personally I do not think that asking for the name of the chemical is an odd question at all. As consumers, we have a right to know what we are buying and putting on our body/hair! It's sketchy that they don't really provide a list upfront for some of their products.
I’m going to finish my shit bottles, I’ve now given them $300 for my hair to be revolting. I’m going to just use cheap stuff and then this expensive shit in between.
imagine my shock when i’m watching a youtube recommended hair product review and one of my favorite vegan youtubers is in the comment section 😂💗 hi mary!!
Wow I was considering buying them because I loved the concept of a custom line but my coils were tingling and your review sounds about white. Lol I’ll save my coins and stick with my staple products, thank you!!!
Lowkey I feel that this proves that Function of Beauty, as much as they don't want to admit, needs to work on how they market or brand for people of color.
Yeah. For me, a white girl with thin straight hair, works great. Volumizes well. Makes me feel great. But I feel like it’s not designed for African hair idk about other races tho
I loved the leave in conditioner as well but I totally agree with you about the amount you need to use to get a good result. Not worth it if I'm only getting 3 uses out of a bottle
I feel like these "customizable" shampoos are usually made for people with straight, thinner hair that is typically found in white people or Asian girls. Those are the only people who I have seen reviewing this product after all. I think that that hair type tends to be the least affected by shampoos. But, I might be wrong.
I have pretty straight, medium thick hair and it didn’t work that well for me ): my hair can get dull pretty easily. Function dried my hair out. Also, my skin is sensitive. Their shampoo made my scalp itch a lot !! Now that I watch this, it was probably because of the silicones.
i have easily manageable 1C/ 2A asian hair & this shit made my hair fall out! this honest review was so welcome bc i felt sooo gaslit by every influencer endorsing this :D
@@sashal9424 Yes, I know that Asian hair is thicker. I was just saying it seems to work best on straight OR thin hair. Sorry if I didn't clarify enough!
I think it depends on the person. For me, I have used this product for 2 years and it did WONDERS for me. I changed my formula once and it didn't work that well so I changed it back and it was working again. 2 years ago, I - personally - did not see anyone on TH-cam being sponsored by this product so I was not influenced by that. I heard about it because someone was reviewing another customized hair care and they said Function of Beauty was actually the one that they didn't like. I know that it might not be everyone's cup of tea but it is different for each person.
Same! My curls were super defined after my first wash day using FoB. It’s worked so much better then any other product i’ve used before. My products had all the same silicones that Simone had and the products still worked just fine
same for me, and my mother uses mine as well. My brother convinced her to use Garnier for some reason and after two uses she couldn't understand why her hair was so dry and frizzy. I told her some of the hair goals were specifically moisturizing and anti-frizz. She went back to FoB and won't use anything else. I think it really depends on your hair and needs. edited to add - I HATED the leave in but I love the serum!
Same. I use the purple shampoo for blondes and my hairstylist even commented that my hair was in a really good state and not brassy at all. And while it is pricier than regular drugstore shampoos/conditioners I think those are totally useless and it also lasts an extremely long time for me.
It also depends on hair type? Like I could wash my hair with almost ANY shampoo, but then I just need an ok conditioner for it to become silky. I used to have a lot of issues back when I used crappy cheep conditioners, but then it stopped when I found cheep ones that work for me (I use two pound shop conditioners)
Same here. I have type 3A hair and it was chemical and heat damaged and tended to get really frizzy no matter what. I bough FoB silicon free shampoo and conditioner 2 months ago and I saw an instant change in my hair. It's less frizzy, the curls are more defined and it doesn't fall out as much. Previously I had expensive salon recommended products which ruined my hair so FoB is a pleasant change. I only wash my hair twice a week so even though the products are expensive, they last a while.
True, I have 2C type hair, so it is wavy, and their conditioner has been pretty good. (I didn't buy the shampoo) I could probably get the same result through trial and error with other products though while spending less.
Wow, that interaction with customer service tells me they don’t want to answer your question. That is very shady. I find that kind of crap from customer service unacceptable and knowing this, I’ll NEVER buy this. Thanks for the honest review girl!! ✌️💖
Me personally I didn’t like it, The shampoo didn’t feel like it cleaned my hair and when I put the conditioner in it felt like nothing was there it had absolutely no slip whatsoever
Did you select for a no silicone formula? Shampoo and conditioner without silicones will make them have no slip. Doesn't matter that much really bc mine had silicones and I have a similar issue
Desi Kiernan I tried couple different formulas with and without silicone and my final opinion still is the same sadly, I really did want to love these products but there are just much better products that work for me personally
I have straight asian hair (and scalp that’s prone to dandruff), years ago when they were super trending I wanted to try out their dandruff products. Hated it, dried out my hair, made my hair color run out (I had colored hair), extremely itchy scalp, EXPENSIVE!! The only thing that I liked was the smell.
I tried fob shampoo on my straight, asian hair bleached at the ends. I don't usually get dandruff with regular shampoos but this one dried up my scalp so bad, it was flaking and itchy and a total waste of money :/ ended up using the rest as hand soap since it smells nice at least
19:29 is the moment you realize you've wasted a week's worth of groceries on a customized How-To-Tangle-Your-Hair-Up product set. Here's your own hair deathtrap, would you like that with a side of fries?
I was subscribed to function of beauty for a while and it did wonders for my hair. I have 4a/b hair and used a bunch of honey coupons to save money each month. However, my mother had the exact opposite experience. She hated it and said it made her hair dry. That's why I think it's important to know your hair and what it likes.
This is my first video of yours and I just want to say thank you! I have never seen a non sponsored review of this product, and although I have no intention of buying it due to its price, it is still refreshing to see a non sponsored opinion on something that is so heavily advertised. I feel like its customizability is very attractive and I am wary of being sucked in by that perk, so very glad to hear honest opinions! I've had a look at some of your video titles and they definitely sound right up my alley - so definitely subscribing! Your manner is so friendly and I really enjoyed this video!
Andy Carrillo-Cordova Nope, she used it for a week straight, she said she felt bad that she wouldn’t first use up the bottle because it would take to long to make the video
Amaani S I saw a VERY similar one and I think it might be from that shop... Don’t know what the name is but their insta is @peachywixboutiquee and you can get more info there (link to the actual shop) their clothes are super cute!! 🥺 top’s name is „Eliza Top” www.peachywix.com/product/eliza-top
I honestly love function of beauty. I got my first order in february, and (because my brothers used it all like its NOT expensive???) I just got another order. I have 4b/4c hair, and it makes my hair feel softer, retain moisture, and my hair barely breaks off anymore. I also have scalp issues, and its been really good with my scalp and promoted hair growth in my crown area and the regrowth of my edges.
@@brittneylewis3917 i havent had any hair loss, just the normal shedding but even that isnt as much as it was when i was using Shea Moisture exclusively. I think it depends on the hair goals you pick and the type of hair you say you have on the quiz. I picked coily+coarse+dry and the goals i picked were hydrate, stengthen, lengthen, curl definition, and soothe scalp. I also didnt get the silicon free one, and i chose the natural lavender fragrance (true lovendar).
Same. I honestly really love function of beauty my shampoo and conditioner ran out cause it was my first time so i bought 8 oz but I’m getting a shampoo and conditioner 16 oz bottles next week and I’m so excited. It made my hair look so much healthier and it really defined my curls cause before you couldn’t really see them .
Fun fact: most of the time when companies have a drying alcohol last or near last it’s because they use it as a solvent for the super hydrating ingredients. Generally the good fatty alcohols and conditioning agents are really hard to dissolve into a solution like a conditioner.
isopropyl alcohol does appear alongside behentrimonium methosulfate because BHMS is sold to companies as a slurry with it, as it offers ease of formulation and cold processing as opposed to melting bricks of solid BHMS which slows down production. And yes the final result has 0.75% or so Isopropyl alcohol in the product. Apparently it either gets washed away or simply evaporates off the hair strand if left in for such small quantities.
Also, your natural skintone (like without the base/highliters that lighten it a little) is SO gorgeous. I melted a little bit when i saw you without makeup bc you are so beautiful
I had a hair die refresh pack once and when I heard crisp I rinsed it out and almost cried because I was panicking so much. How are people allowed to sell crispy hair products??
I'm a man with an oily scalp, so I wash my hair practically every night. I bought just the leave in treatment because my hair kinda dries out overnight, but in the mornings, my comb would snag on NOTHING! My hair is just BARELY wavy--basically straight--and I just don't know what the comb is catching on. I've never had tangles before!
ik this can be hard to do but if you’re washing your scalp almost every night the oils on your head think they have to over produce bc they’re being washed out constantly so if you don’t wash ur hair for a few days which ik is gross w oily hair but u gotta do it and kinda re set a washing schedule your natural oils will catch up and produce at a much more regular pace
I had also seen videos about functionofbeauty for years and years and I never got the courage to buy it for myself, because it was quite pricey as we all know. So this year I finally decided to "treat" myself and ordered the shampoo and conditioner hoping it would do miracles with my hair. The first thing I noticed was that my formula lathered. A lot. And since I haven't been using shampoos with parabens or sulfates for a long time, I haven't really seen any of my shampoos lather as much as this shampoo did. But the weird part was that I thought their formula wasn't supposed to lather either. So that was my first red flag. The second one was when I rinsed off my shampoo, it made my hair feel tangled, dry and crunchy. It's an odd feeling that I haven't really felt ever with any of my previous shampoos. It would be impossible for me to just use the shampoo and not the conditioner, because the state the shampoo left my hair in, was horrible. The conditioner made it a little bit better, but overall I felt weird after using the products. So I emailed the company, wasn't really expecting to receive feedback, but surprisingly they responded really quickly and offered to send me new bottles with another formula with an ultra cleansing base instead. So now I'm waiting for that new formula to arrive. And I hope it's better what the first batch was, because it felt like I had just washed my hair with soap.
I had the same response and the product has gotten much more expensive. I used it for 2 weeks and it stripped my hair. I choose deep conditioning and strengthen and it was awful. I got a refund
Thank you soooo much, I was literally about to spend 100+ but always look for reviews first but noticed that you were the only curly haired one thats crazy!
Ok, first: I LOVED your personality, i just found out about this channel and i LOVED it. Second: i liked that you were honest and that makeup was ON POINT , thanks for the amazing vid! cuddles from Brazil!
This review blew my mind ! My sister recommended it to me, I have wavy hair, she has curly hair (we're half Caribbean, Guadeloupe, half French). For her and for me this is the best set of shampoo + conditionner we found so far. It actualy did what we ask it to do and our hair have never been that good. It helps define our waves/curls and make them shiny. So I'm very surprised it had this effect on you :o So I guess it has a different result on people? But I have to admit, despite all the good stuff, I still consider it too expensive ! edit : also, I used it for 3 month before I finished the bottle. edit 2 : I did some research, (for further details if you need a reference before buying) my hair type is close to the 2B type of hair, and my sister's close to 3B. That may explain why it worked for us and doesn't work for heavier types like Simone's 4C.
i also have wavy (2b, medium) hair and have been doing cgm for over a year. i picked the curl definition option, silicone free, and it actually worked reallyy well for me! but i feel like i can find a similar shampoo/conditioner somewhere cheaper
@@silverkyre I chose curl definition, anti frizz, volumize, hydrate and shine. And I don't know what my sister chose exactly. But (if you are asking before ordering your own) I honestly think that is not gonna help you find your own best recipe and you should just fill the form with what you need.
I don’t really like my hair, so I got function of beauty because of all the incredible reviews and everyone saying it was amazing. I’ve been using it for about 6 months now and it’s fine. It’s ok. It doesn’t do anything new or crazy to my hair. It’s like any shampoo and conditioner I could get from the store and that’s about it. I have very wavy hair btw
I think it depends on what texture your hair is Cause I saw a lot reviews and its giving me mixed emotions, some people said it's fine, others said it really improved their hair and others said it bad soooo🤷🏾♀️
Hey! I study Cosmetology and cosmetic chemistry at university. I can tell you that Isopropyl Alcohol and Dimethicones are basic ingredients that are needed in haircare products. Actually I think it is nice that they use these basics, because other brands use similar ingredients to substitute for them and end up using even worse ingredients. However, I am grateful to see an unsponsored review, and I think everybody can choose what they want to put unto their hair and what not. I ordered from function of beauty because they offer a fragrance free option which is very nice for allergies.
I loved this product when i first got it. Then after almost a year of using it, my hair started to fall out in clumps! I thought it was just “normal.” Then I stopped using it and my hair went back to normal straight away..I looked into it and a lot of people have been having the same problem! Buyer beware🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
Steph C yess same! I loved it when I first got it but then I noticed my hair had become very dry and dead and would fall out (after a few months of use) I stopped using it but my hair hasn’t recovered and there are still a bunch of split ends and now my hair gets tangled so easily when it used to be so healthy and hydrated. I don’t know what to do or what products to use to help my hair recover from those god awful scam products, please help!
Maybe it was because your hair needs to be cleansed with sulfates once in a while, if not you’ll probably get product build up, which could lead to hair loss
@@gwens4726 i am not sure if you have curly hair or straight like mine, but hemp oil + 10 drops of rosemary oil on scalp & hair for the night and than wash is hydrating the hell out of my hair & skin. Also you may try homemade masks with dry mustard powder + a bit of sugar and water for hair growth. You shouldn't keep it on for very long, but the blood flow to scalp makes follicles more activated (best to use once a ~week). I hope you'll find something for your hair soon!
I have wavy-curly hair and I used it for awhile because everyone I’d seen talk about it said they loved it, and it wasn’t bad, but didn’t feel like anything special. When I started color treating my hair and changed my formula I started liking it even less because I felt like it stopped working for my curls. I’m finishing up my current bottle but I canceled my subscription and I’m definitely going to start trying different products that are more specifically suited to curly hair.
I was so sad because I brought this after I saw CurlyPenny do a video for it and got excited since shes the closest to my hair :( But it really didn't feel all that great on my hair, and for the price?? Hated it. The shampoo made my hair feel bad and the conditioner really didn't do much for it. I liked the mask with the cooling in it but thats not enough for the price they're asking. Also! Loving that makeup look on you, you're gorgeous!! The outfit? Indulgent, love it. Consider me a new sub!!
I feel you... I ordered my shampoo in the purple version, for dyed blonde hair and I thought that maybe it dried out my hair because of that but seeing that you had the same issue..... never am I using it again. It doesn't work well enough to be worth the dryness.. :/
Excuse me, i have a problem with my hair. My hair is slighty wavy and very dry and thin. I always get knots even when i just sit down and do nothing. I avoid products with silicone as i had some problems in the past with them. Can someone of you give me tipps and tricks for having normal hair?
Djula I would advise you to cut off the dry parts. And to find a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner that can help with dryness. Also if your putting anything like heat on your hair please stop cause that can be why your hair is super dry. Also find a moisturizer that works for your hair it can be an oil ex: olive oil or coconut oil. But find a moisturizer that works for your hair and when moisturizing comb your hair with it in
I tried it too. Hair tangles terribly almost like conditioner was not substantial for me !!!having a revamp formula sent if my hair falls out I will be upset
I’m white, but my hair is super curly and I haven’t found anyone with my curls reviewing function of beauty. I’ve wanted to get it myself, but I’m just starting to properly take care of my hair and I did not want to ruin it. I’m so glad to see your video because even if our curls are different, they’re similar enough to convince me that this is definitely not for me! Thanks so much for the warning. No one has to, but any tips for helping curls would be really amazing and I’d be really grateful. No one in my family has curls so I’m just trying to figure everything out on a budget
I'm a black woman and I found my products to be okay for my coarse kinky-curls. Great? No. I didn't find it particularly drying or anything. But I only bought this because it was the only brand that I could find that made something unscented, and I was getting pretty bad scent-triggered headaches from other brands.
found you over my youtube-recommendations and I was actually happy to get a video where someone unbiased tested the stuff. I'm a wavy girl and am also very picky with the things I put in my hair and I was out at isopropyl alcohol. thank you for this! also love the eye makeup. gonna check out more :)
I used to use Function of beauty, and I liked the way my hair felt, but I did read that it has been known to cause hair loss. I REALLY don’t need any help in that department so I switched. I use Prose now, and I love it! And I don’t lose hair!
Finally an honest review! This was AWFUL on my hair. My hair really never tangles when I have conditioner in. But this shampoo dried my hair out SO bad and then the conditioner did nothing for my hair. This review was much appreciated!
Actually now that you mention it, I don’t think I’ve ever heard reviews on the conditioner. Also thanks for the review. I almost bought this for my colored hair and dry scalp but I audibly gasped when I heard alcohol was in the ingredients
your channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites, i started watching because your hair texture is very similar to that of my boyfriends so i wanted to make sure i knew what i was doing when i do his hair, and your personality is so funny and real and i’m in love
This function of beauty was crap!! It made my hair fall out and it also made my scalp burn! It wasn’t until later on TH-camrs were saying on not to buy it because it made your hair fall!
By looking at other reviews is natural that your hair falls out because they are replacing with a stronger hair than your previous one but it later gets better.
@@fanofeverything598 yeah but the amount of hair that is lost is really abnormal. Also, I did not see any new growth on my little head! Plus my dandruff got really bad. It's just my experience and other people that I know, their hair deteriorated really fast.
@@fanofeverything598 this makes literally NO SENSE not from a hair professional standpoint and not from a scientific standpoint PRODUCTS THAT ARE APPLIED ON YOUR SCALP DO NOT INFLUENCE YOUR HAIR GROWTH.
Annette Pickard same thing happened to me and it dried out my hair soooooo bad. I used to have hydrated healthy hair and now my hair is so dry and gets tangled so easily ever since I started using fuction of beauty. I stopped using the products a few months ago after using them only 3 maybe 4 months. My hair still hasn’t recovered if you had the same problem what new products have helped?
Finally a non-paid review. I tried them and it made my hair so dull and my scalp itched so much! Even though I specifically asked for a formula that combats those issues! I was annoyed seeing them starting to sponsor all these influencers again. Then when you look around on their Ig page or website, you don’t see any negative customer input.... So here’s my experience: i asked for low fragrance, it smelled so strong :/ I know that herby, essential-oil type smell, and Function smelled like straight up perfume. Second, this is minor but I’m glad you brought it up because ingredient list is weird. Maybe it’s different now because i used them like a year ago.... When I first received the box, it had a card with the ingredients list, but they only named the main, or “good-looking” ingredients i.e. “aloe vera, almond oil”. Yet, NONE of the “chemically” kind. Those man-made ingredients may not look good, but they can be hit or miss and people need to know what it is! Now that you mention the silicones, that’s probably why my scalp itched so much from these hair products :/ When it comes to my skin irritation, sometimes it can be from astringent products, but it can also be caused by buildup or heavy products on my skin! And as anyone might know, buildup is common with silicones. I don’t think they’re the worst haircare brand, or scammy at all. They have legally acceptable practices, but morally acceptable?? ehhh... could be worse?? It works for some people but not everyone!! I’m just glad someone else is finally being real about it. Function is way overhyped and over priced.
Simone, girl you are absolutely stunning. I’m a little late to your review (actually a lot late) but I appreciate your review regarding function of beauty. I have only used it twice and was like abort mission. I’m glad I stumbled across your review and I love your content... new subscriber here love.
She said it was pricey so not an option for everyone, but if I'm not mistaken she still uses it because it worked great for her. Clearly though, its not curly hair friendly

This is the first video of yours I’ve seen, but this was hands down one of the better TH-cam videos out there! This was super informative, and I loved it!
I’ve curly hair and I love function of beauty. Been using it for six months and it gave me such a confidence boost. It accomplished all the goals I chose on the website: curl definition, shine, lengthen, replenishment, anti-frizz. Never trying another brand.
I used to have really bad frizzy hair until i went to ulta and there was a sale so i picked up some quality shampoo and conditioner, and my hair has been perfect since. I saw ppl talking about this but its so expensive and i really didn't wanna risk it after i just fixed my hair 😔 Thanks for saving my hair it thanks u
Excuse me, i have a problem with my hair. My hair is slighty wavy and very dry and thin. I always get knots even when i just sit down and do nothing. I avoid products with silicone as i had some problems in the past with them. Can someone of you give me tipps and tricks for having normal hair?
@@AzazelUmbra might need to do a bit of a trim for one (I had hair almost to my waist, very wavy, dry and tangled like you said your hair was) I cut off all the very dry parts and its is 1000x better. Currently I'm just using the OGX shea moisture (the non silicone/sulphate one) and making sure whatever I put in my hair its keeping in moisture rather than coating it in oil
I tried their shampoo for my fine, oily hair and it was fine. The exact same problems and results as any shampoo I’ve tried before 🤷🏻 I bought it after an influencer I watch said they swear by it. I thought it was totally mediocre. The custom formula sounds so cool but it’s only cool if it works.

Hair on the shower walls always creep me out 🤣😂
Simone Nicole yeah but she’s saying the alcohol in that specific product is negligible so it wouldn’t have the drying effect on your hair that you’re afraid of ❤️ it’s okay if you still choose to not use products that contain it but you may be missing out on great hair products due to an unnecessary fear (as long as its far down on the list like the original comment said)
Well said
Waste water treatment centers have very efficient chemical filters to catch silicones since they are easily separated by sedimentation.
thank you so much for explaining i was wondering abt that!
@simonenicole
Thank you for your explanation. I was very confused in why she seem to hate silicon since it's non-toxic. I literally thought that she was talking about polyethylene.
all the youtubers sponsored by function of beauty keep saying how much they love it and use it everyday while holding full, unopened bottles

dont get why people show sponsored products still perfectly intact all the time. even for the first time ever at least show it's been used a little bit. makes the whole ad a wee bit more believable.
the only one I see showing used bottles is ready to glare tbh
Sarah Schauer had obviously used hers a lot.
I know a girl, Trin who she's done 2 videos and the 1st video she did for them her bottles were almost empty. The 2nd video they were full cyz she just got them but later did an update on snap cuz she got a new formula and it was halfway done.
Georgia productions had only used it a few times and I was clear that that amount was gone

The only person of colour I saw who was sponsored by them was vereena 😪😪😪
Yasmin Smillie luhsetty was sponsered by them

maybe it's not meant exactly for type 3/4 hair?
Im happy to see a black person reviewing this especially since I heard it was bad 👀
They seem to use a lot of dye; it could discolor your hair and irritate your scalp.

this brand made my hair drier, irritated my scalp, and gave me crazy tangles.
After a while I stopped using the conditioner on my roots (the instructions to me to) b
Thinking that was why I was so oily.

I feel like these "customizable" shampoos are usually made for people with straight, thinner hair that is typically found in white people or Asian girls. Those are the only people who I have seen reviewing this product after all. I think that that hair type tends to be the least affected by shampoos. But, I might be wrong.
asian girls do not have thin hair. straight, NOT thin
My hair is straight and thin, but if I use the wrong shampoo I look like I dipped my hair in oil less than 24hrs later!
I have pretty straight, medium thick hair and it didn’t work that well for me ): my hair can get dull pretty easily.
Function dried my hair out. Also, my skin is sensitive. Their shampoo made my scalp itch a lot !! Now that I watch this, it was probably because of the silicones.

I've really only seen people with straight hair talk about function of beauty.
same
I was gonna say this!!
True, I have 2C type hair, so it is wavy, and their conditioner has been pretty good. (I didn't buy the shampoo) I could probably get the same result through trial and error with other products though while spending less.
Check out Jayme Jo she’s got curly hair 🤍
Wow, that interaction with customer service tells me they don’t want to answer your question. That is very shady. I find that kind of crap from customer service unacceptable and knowing this, I’ll NEVER buy this. Thanks for the honest review girl!! ✌️💖
Me personally I didn’t like it, The shampoo didn’t feel like it cleaned my hair and when I put the conditioner in it felt like nothing was there it had absolutely no slip whatsoever
You seem older than me, so I apologize for my mom stealing ur name and giving it to me 😔✋🏾
My daughter's name is Erin, middle name is Elizabeth 😂
me too, and it was extremely pricey compared to the products I use that work a ton better on my hair... but hey to each its own?
Melody M you shouldn’t use dandruff shampoo on coloured hair!! that’s what i use on mine when i want to strip color before painting again.
@@anacat3400 same i use vitamine c with dandruff shampoo to change colours
I had pretty much the exact same experience :/
@@v.h6866 yes, exactly. or when the color came out too strong, just wash it for a week with dandruff shampoo and it gets much better!
I have a prone dandruff and very itchy scalp as well, have you found a shampoo that works for you ?
I tried fob shampoo on my straight, asian hair bleached at the ends. I don't usually get dandruff with regular shampoos but this one dried up my scalp so bad, it was flaking and itchy and a total waste of money :/ ended up using the rest as hand soap since it smells nice at least
I just ordered this lmao but if it doesnt work for me I will use it as hand soap! LOl thank you
Yess i have curly hair I bought it and i washed it with the pink shampoo and pink conditioner and had flakes in my hair and flet very itchy
I never see anyone else using this. Just a whole lot of sponsored videos lol so thank you for this
19:29 is the moment you realize you've wasted a week's worth of groceries on a customized How-To-Tangle-Your-Hair-Up product set. Here's your own hair deathtrap, would you like that with a side of fries?
Medium hair fries, silicone dipping sauce, and diet isopropyl alcohol please
Lmfaooo what is this? 😂😂
Wtf are you talking about
I was subscribed to function of beauty for a while and it did wonders for my hair.
I think safiya nygaard did a non-sponsored review of them too.
I believe she tried it once and that was pretty much the review
@@trillsalvi5249 well i mean isnt that what a review basically is lmfao
@@trillsalvi5249 she actually used it exclusively for an entire week and then talked about her results

Ooo I’m glad to see it works for you babes!
I have the same hair texture as you! I’ve been seeing a lot of people talk about hair loss with this product. What are your experiences?
@@brittneylewis3917 i havent had any hair loss, just the normal shedding but even that isnt as much as it was when i was using Shea Moisture exclusively. I think it depends on the hair goals you pick and the type of hair you say you have on the quiz. I picked coily+coarse+dry and the goals i picked were hydrate, stengthen, lengthen, curl definition, and soothe scalp. I also didnt get the silicon free one, and i chose the natural lavender fragrance (true lovendar).
Lexi Thompson thanks so much! I was scared about that so thanks - I’ll try it again and see what happened. 😊
"...compared to me!" (Flips hair). Mood all day😂😍😍😍
extra at allllll times! Its the only way to be 🤷🏾♀️😂
Fun fact: most of the time when companies have a drying alcohol last or near last it’s because they use it as a solvent for the super hydrating ingredients.
I tried it and I put in the “dry, moisturizing, curly, etc” options and it still dried my hair out and made it all crispy
I had a hair die refresh pack once and when I heard crisp I rinsed it out and almost cried because I was panicking so much.
How are people allowed to sell crispy hair products??
Jason Bouvier idk😪
SAME!
ur pfp😍
Any updates yet?
sara khan I haven't received it yet, but I think it should arrive this week
Don’t mind me just replying to get the notification
ShutUpAeryn same
Replying for a notification too, lol
Tried for 2 months. Dried the heck out of my natural curly hair. Cancelled
Daaamn- what options did you choose?! 😭
same and i only used it for 2 weeks and stopped
I had the same response and the product has gotten much more expensive. I used it for 2 weeks and it stripped my hair. I choose deep conditioning and strengthen and it was awful. I got a refund
Thank you soooo much, I was literally about to spend 100+ but always look for reviews first but noticed that you were the only curly haired one thats crazy!
I clicked for 2 reasons...1) I was curious 2) That eye look
Ok, first: I LOVED your personality, i just found out about this channel and i LOVED it. Second: i liked that you were honest and that makeup was ON POINT , thanks for the amazing vid! cuddles from Brazil!
This review blew my mind !
My sister recommended it to me, I have wavy hair, she has curly hair (we're half Caribbean, Guadeloupe, half French). For her and for me this is the best set of shampoo + conditionner we found so far. It actualy did what we ask it to do and our hair have never been that good. It helps define our waves/curls and make them shiny. So I'm very surprised it had this effect on you :o
So I guess it has a different result on people?
These products worked great for me too! It changed my hair for the better and did everything I hoped it would. I think it must depend on the person.
What did you pick? Like curl define, and so forth? Been trying to figure out what works for people
@@silverkyre I chose curl definition, anti frizz, volumize, hydrate and shine. And I don't know what my sister chose exactly.
But (if you are asking before ordering your own) I honestly think that is not gonna help you find your own best recipe and you should just fill the form with what you need.
Amelle Kyre I have straight, fine hair. For goals I chose deep condition, fix split ends, lengthen, nourish roots, and volumize.
I think it depends on what texture your hair is
Cause I saw a lot reviews and its giving me mixed emotions, some people said it's fine, others said it really improved their hair and others said it bad
soooo🤷🏾♀️
So well-researched. So refreshingly anti-roast. First vid and SUBBED.
I haven’t even gotten to the part where you talk about how the product performed and I’m already glad I never went through with buying their stuff.
I sorry the products didn't work out for you either 😪
Or the price..this is expenssiiiivvveee😅
purple shampoo should never be used in a regular basis, and you should always get the fragrance a dye free versions
But find a moisturizer that works for your hair and when moisturizing comb your hair with it in
i'm a white girl and even i can tell how bad that stuff was for your hair oml.
Maybe the alcohol in the conditioner is a stabilizing agent that makes the conditioner not go bad, like a preservative. To keep our bacteria, etc.
I wish they would just use parabens tbh. The anti-paraben movement was always pseudoscience that got way too popular.
found you over my youtube-recommendations and I was actually happy to get a video where someone unbiased tested the stuff.
Prose? Is it a brand or a website like function of beauty?
I love how she is honest and not sharing the brand. She simply explains her experience and what she thinks. Love that!
Finally an honest review! This was AWFUL on my hair. My hair really never tangles when I have conditioner in. But this shampoo dried my hair out SO bad and then the conditioner did nothing for my hair. This review was much appreciated!
I ordered it and tried it and ended up going back to dove. It takes forever to wash out. So props to you queen for telling it like it is! 😊
Dove profits off prison labor
Try Shea Moisture, Dove is owned by Unilever like one of the worst companies that exists.. I would look into it.
Yesss Shea moisture is great
Shea Moisture is also owned by Unilever
Actually now that you mention it, I don’t think I’ve ever heard reviews on the conditioner.
Also thanks for the review. I almost bought this for my colored hair and dry scalp but I audibly gasped when I heard alcohol was in the ingredients
Hey, I just wanted to say that you can buy the shampoo and conditioner separately, but it's a better deal to buy both.

@@fanofeverything598 this makes literally NO SENSE not from a hair professional standpoint and not from a scientific standpoint
PRODUCTS THAT ARE APPLIED ON YOUR SCALP DO NOT INFLUENCE YOUR HAIR GROWTH.
Annette Pickard same thing happened to me and it dried out my hair soooooo bad. I used to have hydrated healthy hair and now my hair is so dry and gets tangled so easily ever since I started using fuction of beauty. it’s so interesting to watch the process of washing coily hair. i knew it took a long time and effort, but not THIS MUCH
Finally a non-paid review. I tried them and it made my hair so dull and my scalp itched so much! Even though I specifically asked for a formula that combats those issues!
I was annoyed seeing them starting to sponsor all these influencers again. Then when you look around on their Ig page or website, you don’t see any negative customer input....
So here’s my experience:
i asked for low fragrance, it smelled so strong :/ I know that herby, essential-oil type smell, and Function smelled like straight up perfume.

@@AzazelUmbra might need to do a bit of a trim for one (I had hair almost to my waist, very wavy, dry and tangled like you said your hair was) I cut off all the very dry parts and its is 1000x better. I tried their shampoo for my fine, oily hair and it was fine. The exact same problems and results as any shampoo I’ve tried before 🤷🏻
I bought it after an influencer I watch said they swear by it. I thought it was totally mediocre. The custom formula sounds so cool but it’s only cool if it works.
