I’ve got the Polish Poncho’s that turn into a Lavvu tent, very similar to the Palatka, they are a great piece of gear. You can’t beat good military gear. And these have already outlasted newer lightweight stuff, with years of use still to come. I’m enjoying these videos brother! Keep up the good work!

It is great to go out and practice different options. Last Saturday I was playing with a Plash Palatka and a Lavvu. I took several pictures and was very satisfied with the refuge configuration. I think you've seen it in my instagram. I send you a hug from Argentina and it's great what you're doing 👍
You have the same gear I have, ! F1 , Plash, woollen blanket, I also use 58 webbing gear . Also a polish laavu, love the plash though, I call it " hotel green sheet" . subscribed
Ive got plash palatkas and really like them. Could be a little bigger but... You showed several options I've not thought of, thanks. I have 3 complete Polish lavvus. For shelter, they are better I think. But I almost always take a palatka along since they are so versatile. I think the lavvus are about 3.5lb each.
OKBushcraft Absolutely! I heard that the average height of the Russian soldiers in the 1950s was around 5’5”, so for them, 6x6 was good. 7x7 would be perdect. I have yet to checkout the lavuu. Gotta get on that. Stock seems to be getting thin.
good drills ... another mint and informative piece and yep the french F1 is pretty good. one good thing about the plash palakta is its a decent rain cape/poncho and theyre a canny size. As always great video

@@25137130 the key for me has been to keep at it. once in awhile I sit down and brainstorm ideas for videos and just write out as many ideas as I can. Learning to use tags, titles, and a good pic for video all helps immensely. Its a bit of work until you get a flow for it and then it gets much smoother. The BF stuff is interesting. Its nothing I ever expected. I suppose I felt obligated to talk about it after experiencing. Howtohunt has a good channel that he uses to share people’s stories.

I love it! Could you show how to use poncho as a poncho because I’m not seeing how they would work. You said they are 6x6 right. Where is the hood? I see the button holes, but where are the buttons? Where would I locate one of these ? 👍🏻
I would check ebay and see if there are any stateside. So the hood is formed at one corner. There are two drawstrings, one for the neck, one for the mouth of the hood. The corner tucks under out of the way. The buttons are little wooden toggles on one side. Pretty neat, as they are easy to fix. Yes, 6x6. I would get two, 3 even better. Two makes a nice open shelter or an A frame, 3 makes a triangular tepee that is nice. You can also get right up to the fire with these, as they don’t melt.
Awesome! I'll be heading to the woods tomorrow to do a military surplus overnight and I was actually trying to think of single plash palakta setups and if this will be enough for a solid shelter. Thanks a lot!

Hog Creek Village Thank you! It is a british military great coat. I took the brass buttons off and added some antler in place. Soldiers used to sleep in these. They are a great piece of kit for winter. Snagged this for $30 at a local surplus store and its 100% wool.
I don’t have one, but think it is a cool pack. Lightweight and expandable. No frame, so comfort is going to be dictated by how it is packed. I have Polish shoulder bag from that era and it is really solid.
@@EnduranceRoom okay thanks. I’ve thinking about getting a Bulgarian of Romanian. Also one other question how low in F degrees have you went comfortably with wool blankets? I’ve been thinking about switching from the mmss.
@@chasenolot5195 Nice, I am sure either would be cool. I have been down to 0F with two wool blankets and a palatka over top, but it really depends on things like your shelter setup, is there a campfire, and having adequate layered clothing on. There is stuff I like about both the wool and sets like the mms. Wool is a really good insulator, is fairly fire resistant, but it is heavy and it breathes a little too well. Having canvas (plash palatka) or something like a bivvy overtop really helps keep the heat in. I personally like to run a combination of older gear and newer stuff. Just kind of depends on the scenario. How long I am going out, how far I am carrying stuff, environmental conditions, etc.

Patrick Bryan Outside They are thicker for sure. I would say the weight is close to a full US shelter.
I'd say they're no heavier than a US shelter half, perhaps a bit lighter as they have no metal snaps. They're also more versatile by far.

Is there a reason you lace them together instead of using the buttons and button holes?
Traditionally they used a hemp rope to lace them together. Either way works. The rope is stronger.
Do you rate the polish m93 rucksack? Would love to see that and a Plash combo.
