WOW! Memories! I rode on these when Horizon Airlines flew them in the Pacific Northwest. My regular route was Spokane to Seattle. These are a joy to ride. It looks like I'm gonna have to fly to Cortez soon. Thanks for the memories, DJ!
Have about 3000 hrs flying metro’s, about half of that was in and out of of Denver flying cargo, single pilot, without an autopilot. It was always a good strong, efficient plane, but was never a passenger favorite due to the uncomfortable cabin (noise, dimensions, poor temperature control, and rough ride). That having been said, while it was a very high workload plane that was fairly difficult to fly, it was exceptionally flexible, with some versions having a 30,000 foot ceiling and capable of flying 6 hr legs….yes, boxes don’t need bathrooms!
Took a flight on one of those from CEN to TUS with a brief passport check stop at HMO with Aerolitoral, back in November 1993.. It had all the 19 seats, but we were only like 6 in total. I spent the entire flight switching sides for best views.. It was quite an experience!! I still remember it with lots of details and better that my last week's regular flight...
My very first airliner experience was on a Metroliner in the late 1970's! Was a 19 pax config then also. Fun! And a Metroliner has straight landing gear, and a soft touchdown is hard to get.
I flew in the Metro countless times when I worked for Skywest Airlines. Mid 90's was a great time to be in the airline industry. They were really fun into St. George and Palm Springs on windy days! 😂 They keep these planes in great condition!
During the 1980s this type of plane was used between Durango and Denver quite a bit. The landing into Stapleton was a real dive; All we needed was sirens and we would be an honor Stuka! One time when I was flying with my girl friend the ground crew forgot to unload her baggage which was a back pack with her purse in it. No carry on so it was in the nose of the airplane. She raised absolute hell and the plane actually turned around on the taxi way and came back so she could get her back pack. I was quite impressed by such service and proud that LaPlata County Airport could screw up luggage just like a "real airport".
My first real airline job was with Chautauqua Airlines flying the Metro. That thing taught me to fly! Great fun! And surprisingly stable. A good IFR platform. Maybe because the ailerons are half way up the wings!
Also known as the "San Antonio Sewer Pipe", and the "Screaming Death Weenie". My first flight of any kind was in a SkyWest Metro from SLC to PIH. I wanted to sit up front to watch the pilots. So loud! Key Lime has replaced its 3 and 4 blade props with much quieter 5 blade composite units.
Great video! What kind of camera do you use? I frequently connect through Denver and have always wondered about these flights. Looks like a solid product all things considered.
Wow ! I flew on a Metro from TF Green in Rhode Island to NY JFK before transferring onto a 747-200 to Egypt during the first Gulf War back @ 93... Some people don't realize it was still going on until around 1994... Also flew several times on the Beech 1900D, but never got a ride on the Shorys-330- or 360... They were all stationed at Rhode Island TF Green back in the day... Years 1979-2004... 737-200, Md-80, DC-9, 737, etc... They all Flew out of TF Green... In Fact Connie's flew from TF Green Field... TWA Airlines Connie's !!!
In June, 2021, I took a similar jaunt with DAC, but drew the EMB-145. I really enjoyed the crews on DAC! On the same frivolous "regional-only" jaunt, I also flew on Southern Airways Express (Cessna Caravan) and Advanced Air (Beech King Air), and, eventually as they cancelled two other flights, Boutique Air (Pilatus PC-12. I do NOT recommend Boutique unless one doesn't absolutely HAVE to go somewhere! Never saw an airline run so poorly, especially one that seems to exist solely on EAS contracts!)

So glad you enjoyed!!! Be sure to make that trip while they’re still flying 😀
very different topic for dj hammers, like it either way! keep up the good work!
Thanks! Yes, we occasionally do aviation videos too :D
Wow that shot of the 328Jet and Metroliner together is amazing!
Different topic. Love the diversity. 💚👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Haha, the way the captain held the propeller assembly's cone...you can tell she's his baby and he loves flying her!

That’s really cool! The 9 seat configuration on Key Lime really makes a difference. 😃

So cool!! Planning on flying on the 19 seat version soon, maybe on Bearskin Airlines. Stay tuned 😃
Hope you still have your hearing haha. I used to fly this route back when Great Lakes Airlines did it.
Thank you for flying with us!!!!! awesome video!!
So glad you enjoyed the video!! This was a very fun flight.

Started fueling these in 1986. Went on to become fueling supervisor at LAX 2004. Left aviation in 2006 after 20y.

I love aviation (mostly commuter airliners and corporate planes) and the NYC subway, so all i can say is I’m pleasantly surprised
excelente vuelo.

Very cool! These planes were quite widespread back then. So glad to have had the opportunity to experience them.

Almost died on a Chautauqua flight from Altoona Pa to Pittsburgh
May have felt that way, but Chautauqua never had a fatal accident. I worked for them through the early 90s
Used to have those lawn darts flying from PDX to SEA.Horizon Air.
I’ve heard them referred to as Texas Tampons or Texas Lawn Darts
So have I 😊
What does that mean
@@maxbeckwith9 simply nicknames for the Metroliner
@@maxbeckwith9look at the plane and use your imagination a little more.😊

Key Lime is a really professional operation. Loved flying with them!
What is the music that starts at the 30 second mark? Thanks.
Loyalty Freak Music - Everyone.
Does those plans have the Garrett TPE331-10s
Very cool!

So glad you enjoyed! These clips were recorded with an iPhone.

nice
Ah yes, the pencil. Brings back memories.
It’s a really neat plane!
Interesting to see the pilots were unable or unwilling to activate the de-ice system for the wings. Eek
cool
Metroliners are notorious for being high-workload plans for the pilots to fly.

The engines are not mounted upside down! 😂
concerning about the ice build up in the video?????
The Metroliner has 19 seats, as if it has 20, it would require a flight attendant, per FAA.
Worst aircraft I have ever flown on.
I’m amazed that Metroliners are still flying in present day 2024.
