  • Welcome to Adulting With a Disability, My name is Martha and today’s video is about CAPITAL SUPPORTS.
CAPITAL SUPPORTS include: Assistive Technology and Home Modifications.
Assistive technology can be a wheelchair, hoist, bed, shower chair…
An Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist need to fill in an
Assistive Technology form/report to state what your requirements are and why you need them along with 2 quotes and the one that best suites you, also a consent form signed by you.
In order to make sure the report has been received, the Assistive
Technology report, quotes and signed consent, need to be uploaded to the NDIS Portal, emailed to the appropriate section and a phone call made 2 days later to make sure the info has reached your file and that it is on its way to being processed. An Assistive Technology request can take anywhere from 6 months to
a year to get to you. So don’t wait until your equipment has died before you start the process of applying for new equipment

Home Modifications may include ramps, hand rails, hoist rails, bathroom/kitchen renovation…
A Home Modifications assessment and report needs to be written by a qualified HM OT. They will come out and asses then get two builders to quote - the preferred quote will be specified in report then the report, quotes and your signed consent, need to be uploaded to the NDIS Portal, emailed to the appropriate section and a phone call made 2 days later to make sure the info has reached your file and that it is on its way to being processed.
Approval…not sure of this time frame.
Money to pay for the Occupational Therapist comes out of Capacity Building Daily Living - Normally around 15hrs + 5 hrs per extra item. Depends on where you live and how many visits Occupational Therapist has to make.
Home mods OT needs 20+ hours as well.
If you have enough Capacity Building Daily Living to have reports done and sent in with plan review, the process may be quicker. If you don’t have enough money in your Capacity Building Daily Living budget - flag it in your plan review and ask that they allocate enough funding for the AT or home Mods you require.
Make sure to contact your LAC or Support Coordinator for assistance or more info.
