OMG! My hometown!!! THE SHOW ME STATE!!! Use to be a very "active" train station! :-D I use to take AMTRAK to New York back in 1974! GOOD TIMES, FOND MEMORIES. Home of the WORLD'S FAIR! Don't forget to grab some delicious " caramel-cheese" popcorn! Head over to Forest Park & ZOO, The Botanical Gardens (Lilly pads so gigantic you can actually stand on them)!, the Gateway ARCH, Busch Beer Garden, Six Flags Mid-American, The Old Court House (where slaves were actually sold way back in the day), Lewis & Clark Experience, The old cobblestone Riverfront (home to all the finest ships, casinos & The Mighty Mississippi), The infamous Spaghetti House, The Museum on the Hill & Planetarium, Hippy hill (Forest park), Central West End (great for the Hipster in you), Downtown St. Louis Old Public Library (with the glass floor that overlooks the stacks-law library)., Lil' Italy, Route 66 (The best CUSTARD, ever). Head out to one of St. Louis counties (I forgot which one, maybe Flossisant). Any way, America's Incredible Pizza (is among one of the best places for the family to dine). You'll enjoy a "buffet-style" serving of 20+ varieties of pizza, pastas & salads. The desserts are so scrumptious, the variety is staggering. Additonally, there's every kind of beverage you can imagine. Every "room" is unique & huge located under one gigantic building! :-D Each one has a "theme" and is filled with tons of entertainment, such as GO Karts, Gaming, Sock Hop Dancing... there is even a vintage old time TV/movie room. the classic gym room/sock hop, 50ty's diner brought back alot of FUN memories! Yes, I haven't listed EVERYTHING that makes ST. LOUIS great...there is way to much. After all, St. Louis has it all from A to Z. :-D That's our city motto!!! ;-D *P.S. Don't forget to take in a broadway production, see the latest musical, or take in beautiful sounds by the Philharmonic Orchestra! Oh, and be sure to visit the outdoor amphitheater @FOREST PARK (if you're at the very back of the amphitheater, there is usually not a ticket charge, but you will have to stand during the whole play...so, purchase a ticket and relax to all your favorite broadway productions. I recall seeing "The KING & I" starring the late great Yul Brenner). You'll also love to visit the BOAT HOUSE (those gondalas-ees can really sing sweet tunes). While you're at FOREST PARK visit the High Tech Segway, Robotic Museum. The laser shows at night time is off the hook (near the Planetarium). And if you have a chance go downtown in St. Louis to the most WHACKEST Kid friendly museum, ever... (City Scape museum) is made out of city blocks of old renovated warehouses. It's jam packed with the MOST INTERESTING stuff. There are plenty of activities to keep old & young ones BUSY. The warehouse even has a winding SLIDING BOARD that goes pretty much the length of the building. THIS PLACE IS GIGANTIC, so you can imagine how scary it is to drop down that slide. Whee! Oh, and by the way...it's totally "dark" inside the slide when you do it! It is EXCITING & CHILLING all at the same time. If you like shopping for "vintage" items, fashions, etc. City Scape has a special quarter of a floor reserve for vintage finds. There's weird things like old player pianos playing old gay 90ty's tunes throughout the gigantic warehouse. There are "oddities" & old time travel & interesting facts all over the place. You will LEARN something about EVERYTHING! City Scape even has a floor made of glass that houses all sort of aquatic creatures. It's really a super cool museum...very different & a lot of FUN! Oh, and the "artwork/sculptures" displayed there will BLOW YOUR MIND! Everything is actually a PART of the building itself. So COOL, this place is. I hope Chris goes back to St. Louis and report on CITY SCAPE!
+InMyOpinion Wisdom Thanks for the very detailed list of tips! I'll definitely check some out if I'm back... I did visit the Arch, and had some really good BBQ ribs at Pappys :)
I've already stayed at this hotel and it was FREAKING AMAZING! I remember a few neat parts. So, I really liked one of a part in the mall was a taco shop! Ohhh! It was SO great. And, a Coy fish pond where I threw little pieces of food in ^.^ . Though I didn't get to go to the pool, We got free breakfast. Don't know how? My step-brother grabbed a little package of nutella and it was molded. We told a waitress ( I think ) and she was so sympathetic. So, we got breakfast for free. It was for my birthday, and no-one wanted to sleep in the same bed as me, so I got a whole bed to myself! While we were at St. Louis, We went to the Arch, The Zoo, and a fountain area to cool off. I was playing around in the fountain and after a while when we got home we noticed a little scab on my face. Turns out I had impetigo. That was the only bad part of the trip.
Seems pretty neat, but the question begs: What on God's Green Earth were you doing in St. Louis? As I understand it, it is fast moving to become another Detroit! Stay safe when you go to these places!
Oh, do not believe all the hype on the media! I resided in St. Louis for over 30 yrs. and I'm still alive & well. Imagine, if you will...just about EVERY city has it's DO-NOT-GO- to-THOSE- AREAS! A few years ago...when I visited London & Cambridge (UK) a lot of my friends told me which "areas" to stay away from. When I visited SAN FRANCISCO, NEW YORK, CHICAGO, NEW ORLEANS, MIAMI & ORLANDO, LOS ANGELES and even Duetchland (GERMANY)...I was told where I "shouldn't" go. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Think, in your mind where is a place in "your" city that you wouldn't dare go to by yourself...an "area" that you wouldn't even go to with family & friends. Don't forget the CITY OF ST. LOUIS is quite LARGE! It is surrounded by many, many, many COUNTIES. Each county will have its share of problems for example Fergerson (SP?). But, when the news/media REPORTS it...they will call that certain COUNTY- ST. LOUIS. When this occurs...the WHOLE CITY is called BAD. You understand what I'm saying? EXAMPLE: let's say that a fight broke out on "a" street in your neighborhood...and it was reported on the evening news as your "entire" neighborhood or even your entire community! Let's say, that the media hear about it (without ALL the facts)...and then they spin the tale by reporting that "EVERY STREET" was involved in fighting. If you were there (on your street and you "witness" what truly happened) You would immediately say, "No, that's not what happened...that was an "isolated" case. My entire COMMUNITY was not fighting! Just some people on "one" street". From then on the WORLD will know your neighborhood as the people that love to FIGHT, BRAWL...cause conflict & strife. Yes, some areas in our great nation have cities, counties, townships, etc. that the people act foolish when faced with a conflict. They panic! These individuals do not seek TRUTH, they do not use common sense, they lack self-control and operate out of FEAR. They often will take matters into their own hands (as people did in the yesteryears...the WILD WILD WEST come to mind). A lot of innocent blood was shed due to PEOPLE acting impulsively, out of ignorance. If EVERYBODY (the law, media, citizens, etc.) would get the FACTS...THE TRUTH before situations are ACTED on...I truly believe about 99% of the stuff would be RESOLVED without violence. Unfortunately, these people can be found in "any" CITY!!! :-( *P.S. Remember, its not the environment of the "city"(itself)...it's the "people" that can make or break a "city" by their actions & behavior. I'm hopeful that most people aren't EVIL, WICKED, FULL OF MISCHIEF, WRONGDOING & CRIMINAL DEEDS. Thank goodness for that... because if ST. LOUIS and any other city were that wicked & dangerous...we wouldn't be able to GO ANYWHERE. That my friend...is what I call BONDAGE! No freedom to come & go as you please. FEAR can truly cripple a society. I personally love traveling & my liberty to come & go as I see fit. I CHOSE not to be in BONDAGE, but I also KNOW to use WISDOM, COMMON SENSE and STREET SMARTS when I travel this wonderful world of ours. I admit: I take GOD everywhere I go. I have NEVER been mugged, robbed, harmed in any capacity. I always have someone GREATER than myself watching over me. I have a mighty Band of Angels "protecting" me. Even with my love of traveling I know to be careful...I'm sure Chris listens to that still small voice that says, "don't go that way" OR "this area may not be SAFE". That "still small voice" is Holy Spirit warning us not to walk down this or that street, don't drive down a certain road, highway/route. Don't go to this store or that bank today. Additionally, people that reside in a place for long periods of time will be quick to tell you where NOT to go, as well. HUMAN NATURE! . Hum...If Chris & I visited "your" city...where would you tell us NOT to go or which area (s) would you warn us to be careful when visiting???

Yeah... the downtown there is pretty rough. I was there for a conference. .. something tells me the convention center rates are cheap!

It's not as bad as u think, i'm from there. U just gotta know the city.
Misery loves company. Folk who are stuck in that ghetto will tell you it's a nice place
