This was wonderful! I’m definitely a combo reader. I’m influenced by my mood, the time of year, BookTube and readathons, but then like to plan a TBR to stick to so I don’t get too overwhelmed.
It's so interesting to hear how you select books. I think I pick books in a very similar way to you. I plan and then also try to leave room for spontaneity. However, I find that I'll often be too influenced by other booktubers and pick up books they recommend, rather than those on my shelves that I've been meaning to read for years. Selecting my next read is always a challenge for me and I think about this topic a lot lol.
The same things happens to me! Other people's enjoyment is contagious and I often end up picking up what they suggest over my backlog. But then you can talk to them about it and it's great! But yes, it's a constant (lopsided) balancing act.
