This movie is based on a book by Michael Crichton called Eaters of the Dead. It is an amazing story told from the perspective of Ibn Fahdlan. If you liked this movie, wou will love the book!
He uses Ibns diaries of his travels as the basis of his book. I read his stories when I was a young teenager 50 years ago, long before Michael Crichton first published.

The diairies of Ibn Fahdlan are real but they met "the vikings" not in in the north (norway...) but in the north of the black sea who the vikings found the RUS (kiev, nijni novgorod... )who become rissia ukraine...
One of my all time favorite movies! Everything is great,but the characters , are so beautifully written! The story reminds you of when you were younger! What it meant to stand with a band of brothers against evil!

I love how you mispronounced every single persons name at some point, then you would say it right then wrong again, sometimes in the same sentence. The Wend were also a real peoples, just think Baltic-Slavic Vikings with smaller boats and raid on horse back.

They don't shrug off a fight, nor do they give up. They honor their dead in the highest of honors fitting a warrior entering Valhalla. They sailed vast distances with little more than primitive wooden ships. But they discovered lands far away from their own. And in doing so, showed with civilization truly is. Ahmed was more a scholar than a soldier. But if anything, the Vikings proved there is a soldier in all of us. They knew this from their very beginnings. Their runes, history, and exploits if anything proved that civilization isn't always based on niceties, and that one must either conquer, or be conquered. But, if given a similar access to civilization (And they were) the Vikings and later the Nordic people are just as advanced and civilized and an actual example of what a European Country can become. They now enjoy one of the highest levels of wealth and comfort of any Western Society.
The names are mispronounced! I love this movie!! I watch it often. This was a reasonable condensation of the movie plot. Now I want to watch it again! 😆😆💋😻🍹💃🐺👵🌵

The Vikings would have been in contact with Latin rite Christians they rated the coast of England and nothing and other places. Use your ears you can hear the language change.
