I don't side with the russo's explanation for steve's time travel at all. Steve is not an egotistical character, his job was to return the stones to NOT create any branches, so why would he then create a branch!?!? In Loki s1 the TVA explains the events of endgame were always "supposed to happen" which would explain why steve's time travel didn't cause a branch. And last but not least, if he would've travelled back to the sacred timeline via time travel, why would he not appear on the time machine? Why would he be sitting on that bench?
Here's another idea, i really never liked it when they made him so old, hear me out, one thing is this, Bucky at 100 looked the same as he was in the 40's, and Steve even though he was in the ice for 70 years, still looked young. I feel that maybe Steve has been around for far longer than what we think. Maybe returning the stones he and living with Peggy he went a few other places. And that's how he looks so old. I also really hope they "run time through him" to get him back to his younger self! :D
What the timeline he created by going back to be with Peggy is the Fantastic Four first steps timeline, that is how dramatic of a difference having Capitan America survive the ice would have been on the time line. Who could believe Steve Rogers would just sit around for the rest of World War II and everything else that happened during the mid 20th Century. That butterfly effect would definitely set the stage for the fantastic four or even the Xmen.
I don’t think McFeely and Markus are in a bad spot together, they recently wrote another Russo Brother film called The Electric State that’s coming out next year on Netflix. Im thinking McFeely might have a bigger desire to do both Avengers films compared to Markus who possibly might just want a break from Marvel films. These two films got a lot of pressure on them especially from a writing stand point and the future of the studio’s success.
All the Kang problems could have been fixed if they just hadn't shown all his variants having the same face. It's established character variants can look completely different, so that one simpe change would have made recasting the easiest thing ever.
I feel if Steve stayed in the background the entire time could easily explain that one little throw a line about the red guardian fighting him when he was still in the ice hope someday we get to see that figured out
