  • The Smothers Brothers perform the Nilsson song, I Guess The Lord Must Be In New York City on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Tommy starts to ham it up, then forgets the words and Dick gets mad.
    The Smothers Brothers
The Smother Brothers, Tom and Dick, are one of the most iconic comedy duos in the history of television. Tom and Dick began performing as a duo in the late 1950s, playing in coffeehouses and clubs in San Francisco. Their act consisted of music, comedy, and witty banter, which quickly gained them a following.
The Smothers Brothers became a household name in the late 1960s with their variety show, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. The show was groundbreaking in its approach to comedy, pushing the boundaries with political satire and social commentary. The show also featured up-and-coming musical acts, including The Doors and The Who, and introduced the world to comedians like Steve Martin and George Carlin.
The Smothers Brothers' irreverent style has made them a beloved and enduring force in American comedy.

I'm 64 now, and found the Brothers when I was pretty young. They've been a steady thread of laughs and stress relief for my whole life. Thanks Dick & Tommy -- the best of the best.

Hokey schmokes, Bullwinkle, I can't get enough of this stuff! I bet these guys could have done a serious musical record if the comedy didn't work.

When that big bass guitar fell to the ground with a great big thump it looked like Dick was about to start screaming. He looked really pissed off. The Smothers Brothers were the greatest.

The Harry Nillson song was originally written as a possible theme song for "Midnight Cowboy". It lost out to "Everybody's Talkin'". To add to the rejection, the Smothers Brothers, as usual, managed to completely destroy it in their musical act. Great folk artists, tremendous comedians. Totally unique - and hilarious.

Was it that bad? They’re not Nilsson. Naturally they put their own spin on it- which is comedic.

@@pibly7784 Well they don't finish it. And screwing with a Nillson song was open territory for them as he screwed them soooo bad the night of their comeback. Yeah so why not screw around with a Nilsson song, he didn't mind.

Rather generous of then to do a Nilsson song. It was only a year after Harry and John Lennon got drunk-rolled out of one of their gigs for heckling.
