Honest review for potential buyers... I've now owned this helmet for coming up to 6 months and can say that I am incredibly happy with it. The helmet is incredibly comfortable and snug fitting, although I found I had to go a size below my usual to get a solid fit! The build quality is second to none. Wind noise is very minimal, above 60/70 mph admittedly it does get louder, but give me any helmet within this price bracket that doesn't! The fact that the helmet comes with a pin lock ready visor and insert is very good of Shark as it stops the visor frog fogging up completely! The LED lights are bright and last for a decent amount of time and as for what others have said about the uncomfortable usb port... I ride 2 hours a day and have never felt discomfort! this really is a great helmet!
George Clothier for how much time you do charge the battery??? Because if you look at the manual they say that you can't charge it more than 4 hours... Isn't it a bit strange?
As an owner of this helmet for the last 18 months I can report that it's a pretty good helmet. My biggest gripe with this helmet is noise. For some inexplicable reason my specific SKWAL - Lorenzo Spartan's chin skirt came with a vented material, almost looks like lace (the one shown in this review is made of a non-ventilated material). Whether this was done to improve ventilation, nobody knows. This specific change made the helmet so noisy whilst riding my 2009 R1 (with a double bubble screen), I could not ride without using earplugs. I usually mostly ride with ear plugs, and even then you could hear there was a lot going on. Anything from 60 mph and above was excruciating when riding without plugs. I don't always want to ride with plugs, so one day out of desperation I took a clean ball of socks and shoved it into the space in between my chin and the chin skirt and what do you know, the noise was gone! So if you buy this helmet and you see the chin skirt is made of this see through material - avoid at all cost!
Bought it a while back, and for the price it's really good. Lightweight, comfortable, nice thick easily removable visor and a well-functioning pinlock system, distortion-free proper dark internal sunvisor. But the LED system needs some refinement.... Had to take it back to the dealer to get them to see why the entire system died completely on me, and it would also discharge when not in use. Plus the button is not easy to push with winter gloves, and thats a big thing above the polar circle where it's not dark unless it's cold.... Shark is onto something, but they should put a little more effort and charge a little bit more for the next helmet they release.
I own the Skwal, really enjoying it so for. Overall solid build quality and feature rich. Since I wear glasses this helmet really proves it value with the sun visor and the cut aways for the arms of my glasses. No more bent frames !!
I've owened two of these helmets for three years. Very comfortable and love having the use of the lights at night. Though, the battery will loose charge even when not used. The Main problem is the manufacturing fault in the visor, that means it breaks even with normal, careful use. After replacing these 4-5 times I've gotten fed up and am deciding to buy something else. Such a shame!!
My only gripe with this helmet is when the visor is down and the interior glass flips down it mists up with my breathing. I put it down to colder weather in Scotland but it's useless as I can't keep them down to long, it's usually limited misting if I click the visor up one, the airflow from the front vent is not appropriate enough either apart from that it's a good helmet
my only complaint with my Shark helmet is the chin vent is incredibly cheap. very high quality helmet, they should have out a plastic that wasn't as thin as paper for it. BUT, I love my Speed Duke R, and I'd love to own this as well
I own the shark skwal trion - has the White led's over the green. Amazing helmet, Was really tight on cheek to start with until it settled but now comfy. My first did have a manufacturing fault but was replaced instantly no questions asked. Pin lock is great, drop down visor is great no need to change visor. Just wish the button for the led's was a little larger or in way that could be felt better in gloves. Love the helmet would happily buy Another, just trying to choose which Bluetooth to get to go with it??
Would like to see video on putting the padding in place.... removing them is very easy but placing them torturous..... I've done it but still not right and its coming off. would like to see how to be done...
Still worth to answer even 3 years late hu? I thought the hole on the left cheek pane was for the wire but checking some photos it's not its role, I pushed this hole on the button level and ended up putting the padding on the right place
Thank you for this video. I was just given a Shark Skwal helmet yesterday and I want to know what the little, white USB port is poking down the back. I just saw the video, so now I know.
A polycarb helmet from China isn't my favorite lid to buy. But I did see one for sale for under $200.00. probably just wait for shoei or an icon to make one with a bit more led's.
I have it for over a year now! Pro: - blinking lights will get drivers attention to you, but only in the evening and night - light weight - easy the lock system with gloves on Cons: - during the day blinking lights are not visible at all. - blinking lights are just one led each, not a led band. - noisy as fuck - main visor autoseal system does not work as it use to. In the beginning, when new, you could "feel the steps" as you adjusted the visor position. Now it's all smooth and the visor will self close on you if you ride fast enough. - difficult to operate the sun visor, I prefer the HJC system where the visor operation button is on top. At this Shark helmet it's on the left and always had to "search" it with my hand witch is annoying. - heavy after a while: a few hours of use - batteries tend to go off either you use the blinking lights or not witch may mean that will go dead for good sooner then later. Suspect will not last for six years. Let's not forget: noisy as fuck at normal speeds. Overall feeling: cheap Chinese helmet with lights. Will get other helmet for this year on.
Is this legal in all states? Not sure if this falls into the category, but I thought certain LED lighting was considered "distracting" and against the law. This is an excellent safety feature, though.
As long as the LED lights do not interfere with your OEM equipment, and are not colors used by police or other emergency response personnel, it should not be an issue. It is still a DOT-certified helmet. However, you may want to check your local regulations just to be sure. -TeamZilla AJ
The Skwal 2 has brighter stronger leds, and a bit longer batterytime. It also has a better looking shape in the back of the helmet. It is the most comfortable helmet I own, and I own alot of helmets.
Steer clear from this helmet , the visor breaks if you look at it the wrong way, I wasn't even taking it off only flipping it up and it broke, own helmets that cost £30 up to 850 and I never seen such a bad system, they must have just tested on their customers or a cash grab to make you buy more visors at £40 a pop
Bluetooth communicators offer communication as well as music streaming, so the recommendation isn't any different. If you only want to listen to music, consider the following. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-3s-wb-bluetooth-headset-universal-mic
had this lid for about 8 months now. the helmet is sound but the only thing that lets it down is the visor. its complete shite. 4 people who have it have said the same. the little legs are flimsy and so easy to break if you're heavy handed. Saying that i lifted my visor up one day and it just snapped off. please shark, sort it out. the pinlock sits flush inside the visor too. not a big fan of that. bit of a faff on to get it in if you ask me.
Do I get this or the Scorpion Exo T 510? I think the Scorpion T510 would fit me better. I ride a FZ 07. What helmet do you consider better in the touring class? Thanks.
Both are actually pretty similar in shape and function, and both would be fine for upright touring on an FZ-07, so I'd decide based on the LED light. If you want the LED, get the Skwal. If you don't need it, go for the Scorpion. -DrewZilla
What helmet do you suggest for a 58 size, not heavy as I have cervical issues, touring style to use with my Harley Heritage.? I use corrective glass.price around 400 dolars
If you can wait until late-March or early-April, then I would recommend the forthcoming Shoei RF-SR. It's relatively light and is quiet for touring. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/shoei-rf-sr-helmets
Hi! Quick question! I'm a size medium and was wondering if I would have space for my prescription glasses while wearing this particular helmet! Thanks!
Hi. Does the Shark Skwal has the same neutral to slightly round fit as the Speed R and the Race R? I've tried those two and they both fit great but my budget only allow me to get the Skwal. Thanks.
This helmet isnt new its been out for over a year! I want the better green one! He knows he wants it too haha its been available in the US but only at like 2 places
The Spartan is not yet sold in the United States, so we'll have to wait until Shark decides to bring it here to the US. Right now, it's unclear if Shark will offer it here before this upcoming summer season. -DrewZilla
We find it to be pretty average. It isn't the loudest, and it isn't the quietest. We always recommend wearing ear plugs with any helmet, in order to reduce your risk of long-term hearing loss. -DrewZilla
the pinlock system on my skwal instinct is fcking shit, didn't work from day 1, there was a gap making it fog up constantly, really disappointed. Had my visor changed 3 times and my pinlock visor changed over 10 times, no changes helped what so ever, their pinlock system needs work, it's non-adjustable and very weak compared to other brands at the same price point.
undecided on skwal vs speed r last helmet was a vision r and loved it, ive tried on a speed r and fit perfect like the vision r but havent been able to find/ try a skwal. prefer the graphics and design available for the skwal but how different is the internal shape?
The Vision-R helmets use an intermediate oval shape that is similar to the Skwal. However, the Speed-R is a little more aggressive and narrower in shape. It sounds like the Skwal will fit you better based on your last helmet. -TeamZilla AJ *www.revzilla.com/shark-skwal-helmets
Actually, the US production models we have in stock do have the double D-ring closure. I apologize for the confusion but hope this helps! -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/shark-skwal-helmets
Try it before you buy!! I just returned mine today... even though this is the best looking helmet i saw, with a hell lot of features!!! The reason is: Putting it on and taking it off is a misery... See the donut part at 4:42? The distance beetween the two cheekpads are less than 2 fingers wide, and those cheekpads are so thick, they will give you a burning and uncomfortable feeling whenever you'll try to use the helmet. I tried the helmet several times to figure out the reason of the difficulty and each time it became more and more painful until I had visible abrasions above my eyes and on my cheeks. Also when you'll try to put in on your head, the bulky usb port's gonna stratch your scalp. Amazing helmet overall, but only for oval headed people.... I'm so sad i couldn't fit in... (ps: i don't have a fat face, or big head at all)
I do agree on the USB port, it should have been fitted in differently. Also, i sort of understand what you mean with the fit. As i said, my AGV K3 and this one are the same size but the Shark is more snug to the point that when i pull it off i struggle a bit more. I like this feeling though and once fitted it is not uncomfortable.
Shark hasn't made the original Skwal in some time so we'd be surprised if you can find it anywhere outside of a used-sale. The new Skwal i3 is set to launch in a few weeks though so you might be better off waiting for that launch.
For now, only the Instinct and Switch graphics are available. We do not expect to get any other graphics this season. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/shark-skwal-instinct-helmet *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/shark-skwal-switch-rider-helmet
If you ordered from RevZilla, please get in touch with a Gear Geek at 877-792-9455. If you purchased from another dealer, please contact that dealer to facilitate a warranty claim. -DrewZilla
Pinlock MaxVision is a specific type of anti-fog shield system. Pinlock is a flexible lens that is held in place on the inside of a face shield with two plastic pins. It's like a dual-pane window but for a helmet face shield. In order to use a Pinlock lens insert, the face shield must be a Pinlock-ready face shield. MaxVision is Pinlock's newer lens system with a wider/taller field of vision, i.e. the insert covers more of your view. The Skwal comes with a a Pinlock-ready face shield and a Pinlock MaxVision lens insert. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/shark-skwal-helmets
I'm sorry you waited so long for this new RS-1 with a drop down visor and blinky lights. Shark is by no means the first to integrate LED's into a helmet. You should know this. Akuma was first and that was YEARS ago. Shark helmets are ginormous in profile. Ginormous chin bar as always. And yeah, I think in this graphic it especially looks like an RS-1 clone. They are the light weight champs but they don't have a stylish bone in their body. That USELESS, open only on top chin vent has been in their parts bin for at least a decade. Get a clue Shark - it sucked back then and it still sucks. GET RID OF IT ALREADY! The last decent helmet they made was the old RS-2 race helmet.
$300 is entry level? Try $100-$150. The micro connector is 'beefy' Because it's waterproof. It has to be. You aren't going to find smaller on a helmet. Skwal, squall... it IS a nautical reference. The company name is SHARK... LMAO. No detents on a $300 face shield? WTF? You ragged on other less expensive helmets for not having any (gmax) but I guess it's ok if you're paying $300 or better? Their anti-fog is non-existent. Same for Shoei. That's why they have to use pinlock. And those companies maybe someday, after someone sues them in a class action suit for being unsafe to operate in inclement weather, maybe then you won't have to BUY the pinlock because it will have to come with it by law. F these posers.
Don't buy one, the hinges break. I've got through three visors in the past 18 months. The visors are really weak and at 40 quid a shot you'd do better getting something other than a Shark. Absolute rubbish!
Absolutely appallingly designed helmet. I've had three visors break on me in 18 months, and at £45 a shot you can imagine how I feel. The hinges are so weak that they just break at the slightest hint of stress. My recommendation is to buy something else
Sure you don't need to be speaking 1000 words per second when your vids are on TH-cam. Conmen and fast talkers do this just calm the fuck down a bit... Anyway the helmet looks nice hut I wonder, how useful are those leds going to be really? I mean even if a driver in front misses the beams from your bikes front end, how much of those leds is going to be lost in background and street lighting?
There's no difference in fitting helmets for men and women, as helmets are unisex. You size the helmet according to the measurement around the crown of the head and then order thicker or thinner cheek pads to fit the jawline if necessary. -DrewZilla
Just want to say this helmet saved my life in a high-speed accident 3 weeks ago. I didn’t even get concussed.
I'm glad too

Shark hasn't made the original Skwal in some time so we'd be surprised if you can find it anywhere outside of a used-sale. The new Skwal i3 is set to launch in a few weeks though so you might be better off waiting for that launch.
when will you be getting some of the other graphics for this helmet in?
For now, only the Instinct and Switch graphics are available. We do not expect to get any other graphics this season. -DrewZilla

Are you guys going to get the "trooper" graphics for this helmet?
Potentially next year, but for now, we just have the Instinct, Switch Rider, and Solids. -DrewZilla

Does the Skwal come in different shell sizes or just one?
Yes, the Skwal has two shells sizes (XS-S and M-XL). -DrewZilla
Anyone remember Akuma or something had leds in the vents?
This or the AGV K5 S ?
Unless you really want the LED lights, I would go with the AGV K5 S. -DrewZilla
Will this work well for a cruiser helmet?
The Shark Skwal helmets will work just fine in the cruiser riding position. -TeamZilla AJ

What is your favorite gun
A loaded gun!
ordered this Helmet and the led has already stopped working...
If you ordered from RevZilla, please get in touch with a Gear Geek at 877-792-9455. If you purchased from another dealer, please contact that dealer to facilitate a warranty claim. -DrewZilla
So confused what to get; the K3 SV or this
They're really well matched for features and quality. The biggest difference is that the Skwal has the LED lights. -DrewZilla
shame there's nothing on the side :/
what is pinlock vision?
Pinlock MaxVision is a specific type of anti-fog shield system. Pinlock is a flexible lens that is held in place on the inside of a face shield with two plastic pins. It's like a dual-pane window but for a helmet face shield. In order to use a Pinlock lens insert, the face shield must be a Pinlock-ready face shield. MaxVision is Pinlock's newer lens system with a wider/taller field of vision, i.e. the insert covers more of your view. The Skwal comes with a a Pinlock-ready face shield and a Pinlock MaxVision lens insert. -DrewZilla

+RevZilla thank you. for reply
can you tell me what bluetooth will fit in this helmet?
The best option is the Sena 10R. -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-10r-low-profile-motorcycle-bluetooth-headset
is this waterproof
You shouldn't submerge the 10R in a glass of water, but it's perfectly fine in a downpour on the bike. -DrewZilla
question guys, where are the stickers for the certifications?
This was a pre-production sample, so it did not have any labels. -DrewZilla
I bought one up here in canada and still didnt have the stickers...something I should mention to shark? or the retailer?
You may want to contact the retailer in that case for their explanation. -DrewZilla
mine doesn't have any labels ether
Will this come in D Ring?
Yes, the production model comes with a double D-ring closure. -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/shark-skwal-helmets
Was starting to like it until the ratchet strap connection came up. I don't trust those.
I live in Australia and mine came with the double d ring. Not sure about what other markets have.
Revzilla ships the double d ring
Buy a Caberg, Shark quality is very poor compared to Caberg. Caberg make quieter helmets too.
Nice review
Help needed :) can anyone tell me how long to charge shark skwal 2 helmet pleasssss:)
You can expect a full charge in under 5 hours. -DrewZilla
not good for short hair + this version have much smaller LED than
EU version
I was excited until you got to the venting, very disappointing.
Top vent works fine, there is a lot of air on your scalp. The chin vent is not as good, but i like it anyway.
did you quit lifting bro? ;_; pls no
I'm sorry you waited so long for this new RS-1 with a drop down visor and blinky lights.
Do. Want.
isn't fit for sena smh-5
The Sena SMH5 can be mounted on the Skwal as can the Sena 10S, 10R, and 20S. -DrewZilla
MORE HEAD DOGE !!!
Absolutely appallingly designed helmet. I've had three visors break on me in 18 months, and at £45 a shot you can imagine how I feel. The hinges are so weak that they just break at the slightest hint of stress. My recommendation is to buy something else
5 yr warranty why are you buying them
Sure you don't need to be speaking 1000 words per second when your vids are on TH-cam. Conmen and fast talkers do this just calm the fuck down a bit...
Anyway the helmet looks nice hut I wonder, how useful are those leds going to be really? I mean even if a driver in front misses the beams from your bikes front end, how much of those leds is going to be lost in background and street lighting?
girl model wearing shark helmet please :)....How to fit a Shark Race Pro for a woman ??? video please :)
There's no difference in fitting helmets for men and women, as helmets are unisex. You size the helmet according to the measurement around the crown of the head and then order thicker or thinner cheek pads to fit the jawline if necessary. -DrewZilla
Please girl model to review every helmet. :)
koool
ok you gotta stop that shit a the intro with your voice
