I've been needing to do this, I don't want to say years, but DECADES. Those loose flaps on a nice umbrella are sooo frustrating! They make the whole canopy look floppy and it would seem to be a no brainer repair but I don't know how many umbrellas I've finally trashed while waiting 50 years to learn how to sew one. Finally I stole some time tonight from things I really needed to get down to look up a video, found yours and 15 seconds in said "AH-HA!" used it to repair a nice golf umbrella....better than new!
You absolutely made my day. Thank you for the wonderful comments. I’m glad it was helpful, my umbrella is still growing strong. I did have to cinch down the zip tie a little bit as one tended to want to pop off.
You had me at nylon wire tie. I find nylon wire ties are the miracle repair product right after duct tape. They are super handy, can be ratchted down to the needed size, can be tightened down to give tension, and are basically a permanent repair.

Love the name thanks for the tips! Yehaw
That worked for me thanks
I have a similar umbrella that has the same mechanism (that big black spring), it won't stay open
Sorry to hear that, thanks for watching.
damn. I already threw mine away. I wish I watched this earlier otherwise I would have tried to repair. I hate throwing things away.
Thanks for watching, try it on the next one. 🤣
Great idea I’m going to mend my parasol for sitting outdoors under in the summer ♥️🏴England
Parasols are expensive!! Gonna go fix mine too!
but you didn't test it after finishing...
Thanks for watching, good point, sir I did not, but it works flawlessly.
I love zip ties, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Only note I'd have is make sure to get UV resistant ones for this application
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What about button replacement?
This is a redneck repair. Let's not get too fancy now 😀
