In the midst of all that, Paul promised to help with Gemma and Chesney's wedding (after Chesney spent the wedding fund on his fast food enterprise) and also took out a loan to help them with their household bills. With Paul's hand showing no sign of improvement, he was referred to a neurologist, who informed him that the issues with his hand weren't related to the crash and may be more serious thereby making his claim against Carla void and leaving him thousands of pounds in debt. To soften the blow Paul was able to find work as a filing clerk and as a kitchen porter. Having carried out multiple scans of the injuries to Paul's hand, the neurologist informed him he may be suffering from limb onset motor neurone disease and that he may have three years or less to live if diagnosed as there's currently no cure. As his money problems continued, he ended up approaching Damon in his hour need.
