Wow... i envy guys like you who know how to troubleshoot and fix electronic systems. Utterly amazed at that skill set so it was a joy to watch and learn. Thanks for sharing.
those shield are hard to remove. I usually use huge soldering iron made for stained glass works, to heat up entire shield and remove them. or use surface mount reworking station with right nozzle to heat them up. you can fix just bad traces , I usually use one of the wire out of stranded wire of like AWG 20 , one of the wire are more like AWG 40 , and I use stereo micro scope I bought at ebay for around $400. those stereo microscope help a lot when repairing fine pcb traces. I really enjoyed your video as I was once radio repair tech long time ago. AG6JU
I take it that the radio was a throw away and you're just fixing it, correct (first time visitor)? The repair cost wouldn't be justified considering it's a fairly inexpensive radio. Good job though.
I got a problem on 2900 that people on TH-cam should had fix for years ago. Ya remember kenwood tm-271 &tm-281's some early comercial Kenwood's your using it and your recivecgets lower -& lower. Case being a $80 ft 2900 worked for months lost recive gain can't hear wheather channel ? Where's the Fet that goes bad in these radios ? 😮

It appears someone who worked on it before did not know what he was doing. And that is Way too much solder. You are correct. It looks very bad.
Do you happen to have the faceplate screw spec? Mine vibrated out, and I can't find them. Want to make sure I get the right ones.
Have one that displays NO MEM when trying to delete a mem slot. Cant name a slot either. Ideas?
10-26-24 my 2900R will not transmit. Any suggestions ? Do you repair ?
It lives!

Looking good
Thanks 👍
My 2980 shows bars when I key up, but it doesn't transmit. What should I be looking to fix? I bought a new microphone and it didn't fix the problem
I have same problems, did you find a solution ?

No need for background music. Why do you do that?
