I’m from Edo state and grew up in Benin, currently living in Jos, Nigeria. My stay in these two parts of the country has help me understand that the south is plagued with cultism and the north with boko haram. My mum was murdered when I was 13 in our home, my dad was beaten with battle axes to a pup and was in coma for 6 days. We believe the culprits are members of the black axe but as usual no one has been caught and brought to book over the issue till today since 2006.
I lost cousins, brothers, friends while studying at the university of Benin from cult wars. Most of the people killed in these wars are also members of either same cult or rival cults

you can't just advise people to drop cultism and vices lmao.
as you saw in the documentary, most of these cultists got into it because of some reason. unemployment, revenge, unsettled grievances and so on.
The government even supports them. They can't just STOP cultism. It needs years and years of proper leadership to create a liveable environment and implementing rules to keep them in check
The Judiciary needs to be brushed of corruption and that with independence from the Federal Government. If they start from here, things might hopefully get better.
It's just a question of WHEN. It might probably take a lifetime looking at the state of politics in the country. There's no sign of the bleakest hope on the horizon. It is what it is

I schooled in Uniben and lived throughout in the dreaded den called ekosidin and I will tell you this, this documentary barely covers the tip of this cultism issue, it is soooo pervasive there is hardly a family in that state without cultists among them be it fathers, sons, uncles, cousins and what not. The biggest threat cultism poses is its normalisation, there are states like bayelsa, delta, rivers, Edo, cross rivers where it is abnormal to not be a cultist, that is the shocking thing. While I was in Uniben, your cultist friends in their rare moments of introspection will tell you not to ever join, that if they could go back and undo their past they would, they jump at shadows, live in fear, are afraid to be alone and are constantly worried that very day might be the day karma comes for them.
They call themselves "strong men" but truth is, not succumbing to their intimidation and harassment has been the real show of strength.
Will cultism ever be eradicated from Nigeria? I doubt it, but to God I pray it is, this country is too unsafe to raise a family in right now and the sources of danger are just too many for the common man

I remember Wale and his brother in Ondo town back in 2011, Wale was in black axe while his brother was in Eiye. During Ogun festival around September, Wale who had being at home since morning was called upon with an unknown phone number by his brother's friend for a meeting around barracks road just to drink beer. Unknown for him Eiye members were around the corner. On his emergence, he was shot thrice by his brother's friend. That was the end of him. Staying up at Barracks road as an Ondo guy will bring to ur remembrance the activities of cultist. There were large secondary school guys that joined. That's one of the reason why I don't go home often. You never can tell where the stray bullet might come from. Nigeria is on a time bomb in regards to this. Let us all unite together to fight against this menace. Say No to Cultism.

As far as the efficacy of reporting this to the wider world is concerned, .....................................In other news, did you know that HUMANS are now developing nanotechnology in which the complicated software is capable of deep-learning by cooperation with A.I.? Food for thought: Most of the world is growing increasingly indifferent to cultures or people who see fit to slaughter each other, especially when they aren't members of that said group. This video generates views, an ephemeral feeling of sympathy, a few moments of profound reflection and thought.........and then a quick trip to McDonald's. As a South African, my prayers would be rather futile for my Nigerian brothers and sisters because they have to deal with a corrupt and inept government that has taken on the face of their colonial predecessors, they continuously enrich themselves and oil companies at the cost of the Nigerian environment particularly it's water systems and the lives of people - many fishermen are out out of jobs due to pollution and they have turned to piracy which just begets more violence - it's just more violence on top of a country that was founded on a backdrop of violence. Now with the rise of cultism and there is the presence of SARS too - there are a plethora of Nigerians in danger every day and they have to deal with extremist groups, if that isn't the icing on the cake, all of this is iced with a police force that assists criminals and a government full of criminals. The situation is sad and I can't help but offer empathy to the Nigerian people, who despite all their troubles continue to excel and spread their vibrant culture all over the world, they have a plethora of problems and yet they carry a disposition of champions. I can only hope against hope that Nigeria becomes a great state free of all of these problems.
