    This was very helpful thanks! I’ve been learning intro CS and everyone keeps mentioning hexadecimal but not explaining what it is!

    But for humans it's easier to use the decimal system and to memorize decimal numbers, so why using hexadecimal instead of decimal numbers then?

      What do you mean by decimal numbers? like Denary or like integers

      @@yaasinalikondeth6724 Ok like integers, why should we use for example 9E instead of 158? For humans It's easier to remember 158 instead of 9E.

      @@Kig_Ama I would agree with you but when the numbers become so large like perhaps 85230193 I would argue that its a lot easier to remember 14-DC-2A. Like, for MAC Addresses they use Hexadecimal to remember/track which device is who on the internet but if it were a decimal number like device no. 213847343 that would be impossible to remember or it would be less enjoyable to look at rather than D3-12-8F-9A

      @@yaasinalikondeth6724 So actually u mean it's shorter, but not necessarily easier right? I can memorize decimal values far easier than hexadecimal values, but ofcourse if the value gets larger the advantage switches, so do I understand u correctly, the reason using hexadecimal values is only because one can remember them better than binary digits and hexadecimal values r shorter than decimal values, right? There is no other technical reason, right?

      The simple answer is this... which would be easier for you to type and easier for you to recognise and remember: "244963455598574", "110111101100101011111111110000001111111111101110", or "decaff c0ffee". The lower the number of digits in the counting system, the longer the number, so binary, with only two digits, creates very long numbers, decimal with 10 digits generates smaller numbers, and hex with 16 creates even smaller numbers. Also, because hex uses letters the numbers are easier for humans to recognise, and remember.

    at first this video didn't answer my question which was: why to use hexadecimals instead of decimals? but then i came to the answer myself which is probably because of efficiency considerations since 16 = 2^4

      @@TheTechTrain the example you gave when you wrote down the binary then asked us to memorise it which I couldn't and then asked us to memorise AD in hex instead was amazing! Clearly explained why hex base 16 is better for humans 😂😎

    Are English letters used in hexadecimal all over the world? What does hexadecimal look like in say China?

      it's still the same I'm pretty sure... It wouldn't be efficient to make different hex forms for every different country or for most countries so it is probably always 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F no matter the country or region

      @@yaasinalikondeth6724 it's not very efficient to program anything in different languages but, yet, here we are. I mean, you can't put an Xbox game into a PlayStation but, fundamentally, the parts are the same.
