Great experience for you Josh. Getting from A to B takes on a whole new meaning when racing hey. Hopefully up around that area you'll come across more race ops
That was a great learning experience. And reefing a furling jib, as you noticed, looses its perfect shape. That is why I never used or will use it. They are used on racing boats. However only completely deployed or completely rolled up. Other downsides: lot of windage when motoring or at anchor and when the furlingline breaks or gets tangled your are in dire straits. And........what a lovely Jack Russell! Back in the days I owned one and named him Mr. Daniels, first name Jack. He made a nice combi with my gigant Berner Sennen named Glen, last name Fiddich. Jack always barked at big dogs as he knew he had Glen as his 60 kg backup.
Hey Gert, completely agree about the furler pros and cons. The convenience is hard to beat though mate. Would have loved to see a photo of those two together sounds like quiet a pair! I’ve had close friendships with Aussie terriers growing up, they are great friends for a kid who is always up for an adventure. Cheers mate, Josh
Race week looked amazing. Is that the fun race too... In the 80's, it was mandatory for each sail boat to have a topless figurehead. A live one... Now that was how you had a yacht race...
I was vacuuming my living room while watching one of your episodes and had the thought that it would be kind of neat to have the lat and long of where you were when the video was taken displayed across the bottom of the video. I know it wouldn’t change much day to day but over a dozen episodes it might be cool. Love your videos. Much Mahalo from Hawaii.
Hey Wayne! Josh here, we have had it in there a few times but will make sure we get it back up. It’s a great way to find us like you say. Hope the music was good for vacuuming! Cheers mate
@@Thenewkidsonthedock I don't listen to the music so much, I like dinosaur rock 😀. Besides, you and Phoebe have such a great chemistry and engaging attitude that I kind of focus on that. You two remind me of Kiara and Adam and I hope you enjoy the same success and adventures that have had. Sad about Adams dad.
Well done Awesome. That's damn good, 1st and 2nd across the line. Looked like fun Josh. You'll spoil me if you start putting videos back to back like this. See you next time.
What an Awesome experience 👍(pun intended), bet you learned heaps. Personally I don't enjoy racing, though I grew up with it, I'm just not competitive by nature, so I prefer cruising.
The boat was rounding up because the mainsheet trimmer was hopeless. The idea is that the trimmer eases the main out when the gust strikes and the boat remains upright. The running backstays DO NOT affect madt rake. The runners tighten the forestay and indirectly bend the mast which flattens the main. The main tool for doing that is the topmast backstay.
Congratulations! Josh. What an incredible experience being part of the racing crew on AWESOME. Also, GreatJob! Filming on Awesome durning the race days. I’m so excited for you, Phoebe to have your girlfriend come for a visit. I think it’s awesome that you’re gonna put the camera down and just spend quality time with her. You deserve taking sometime of for you because you honestly work so hard each week editing and creating freaking amazing videos that we all Love each week. Love your sailing channel so much 😘 PeaceAndLove Lori
Hey Lori! Thanks for your continuous support, so glad you’re enjoying the videos and I know the next one is going to be very different from the last few whilst Phoebes friend is aboard having some R&R. Cheers, Josh
Nice vid guys. I did the Hamilton Island Race week in '96 in an Austral Clubman 8 ("Pass the Salt"). We raced against the big boys doing the outside races. You are a fair way behind in your vids as this is normally run in August. Where are you guys now?
Hey Mark, I love the name of that boat! We are back down in Northern NSW at the moment dodging the QLD Summer. Whilst here we are completing some significant upgrades on the boat that we realised were needed after last season. We have been trying to keep up with releasing weekly to bring us closer to real time, also intending on setting up a platform that can allow people who are interested to stay more up to date on where we are and what’s going on. Being entirely self funded and learning everything on the go makes for a busy schedule so we are doing our best whilst also trying to be present and enjoy all the new experiences. Cheers mate, Josh
Hey mate! Josh here, that’s awesome. We use Primer - Norglass north wild anti corrosive two pack epoxy etch primer Paint - Norglass Northane 2 pack linear polyurethane Antifoul- Jotun Sea Guardian (you might also need the barrier coat which is the silver grey 88) Good luck on the work mate, we posted a video from our time in the boat yard doing similar work if you want to check that out :) Cheers!
Hey Greg, we were in 40-50ft cruising non spinnaker class. Would love to get some spinnaker racing action I think it would be very exciting! Cheers mate, Josh
You must have followed us up the coast! We saw you in Yeppoon and then we left Coral Sea marina on the first day of race week to reef hop our way to Townsville. The first reef we visited was Little Black Reef then Fairey Reef, Hope Reef and Little Banfield Reef before heading in to Cape Bowling Green when the wind picked up. It was magnificent weather for the reef but not much wind for racing. We have been enjoying your videos and look forward to seeing where you went to after Airlie.
Hey guys! We thought it was so funny how we were constantly cat and mousing with the same boats up the coast. Yes it’s was great reef weather during race week which made for average racing some days. We love little black reef, did you see our video of our whale encounter there? Thanks for saying hello and we are looking forward to sharing our upcoming adventures with you 😁 cheers, Josh
Thanks! Your video calms me down everyday I watch it when the market is pumping! I'm going with your insights. It makes the most sense with where we are at in the cycle. The only thing that would make me think this cycle could be slightly different is the overall increased adoption of crypto since 2019 and all the hype with the BTC/ETH ETF speculation. Could the market stay held up this cycle by the anticipation of ETFs and the overall awareness that a bull run is coming? The surge is speculated to possibly be the beginning of a massive new uptrend, making it a crucial time for investors to pay attention, I've personally benefited from following Laura A Keady trading tactics, amassing 23.9 bitcoins in a short four weeks period, which speaks volumes about his expertise....
Great experience for you Josh. Getting from A to B takes on a whole new meaning when racing hey. Hopefully up around that area you'll come across more race ops
Hey Peter, it is great experience and loads of fun! Will definitely be putting myself in the way of opportunities for future races. Cheers mate, Josh

You can learn what would take years on your own in a couple of days with guys like that showing you how it’s done. Congratulations !
Couldn’t agree more, it’s always a great experience sailing with passionate crew.
Cheers, Josh

laughed out loud a couple of times - always cracks me up when you voice over Josh's words and the aaaargh at the end. Cute. xx

Rail meat! So happy you got the experience to race. it really is fun. Multihulls are the best....
Hey mate! 😂 rail meat. It was great fun and a good learning curve. Would love to race on a multi sometime! Cheers, Josh

It sure was Dave! Great to experience and learn from. Cruising is definitely where it’s at. Cheers mate, Josh
Made me laugh, Phoebe imitating Josh in voiceover. GC Oz

It’s a great week at Airlie during race week
Like that Sheila‘s ( is that the correct term?) little shake at the end there, mate! Lol Cheers! Rrrrrrrrrrr
Just started patching 'Meski' the yacht, 38' steel mono, in Two Rocks Western Australia :) what primer, sealer, antifoul do you use?
Hey mate! Josh here, that’s awesome. We use
Primer - Norglass north wild anti corrosive two pack epoxy etch primer
Paint - Norglass Northane 2 pack linear polyurethane
Antifoul- Jotun Sea Guardian (you might also need the barrier coat which is the silver grey 88)
Good luck on the work mate, we posted a video from our time in the boat yard doing similar work if you want to check that out :)
Cheers!
Don't you know that if 2 boats are headed the same way that it's a race!
For some this couldn’t be more true!
Didn’t see any spinnaker action
Were you in a non spinnaker division
Kites are fun
Hey Greg, we were in 40-50ft cruising non spinnaker class. Would love to get some spinnaker racing action I think it would be very exciting! Cheers mate, Josh
Terrific experience! Loved the content and production quality. Well done! Cheers.
Cheers David! Glad you enjoyed it mate thanks for the love. Josh

I love racing but cursing is better.
🤣So true! Think you might have meant cruising though!!
@@TheGrottieYachtie Thanks for the spell check. Yes, your correct and I fixed it. Stupid auto spell check didn't catch that on my computer.
