Yes, the tension has to be off of them to be able to slide the ramps from side to side. The ramps have to be in the upright position to take the tension off of them. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Ramp-Springs/Redline/RS16933LH.html

I built my ramps from 3X3 angle. They're 6 feet by 16 inches and ungodly heavy. Like, 200 lbs each. This looks like what I need. Thanks
