I never watched people play this game when it was popular. I saw it on Pewdiepie's channel but didn't sit through more than a few minutes as far as I remember. I knew it was emotional and well liked, but that was about it. Watching it now, I gotta say I appreciate how well written this story is. Like the talk about goals and ambitions fading and dying away after the initial raw passion is gone. That'll stick with me for sure, lol. Or the moment where we watch John and River talk about building the house. Watts grimaces that we know how their story ends. But Rosaline is happy that this moment existed. ''The ending isn't any more important than the moments leading up to it.'' That's an idea I've begun to explore in storytelling too, especially since nowadays prequels and stuff feel somewhat more prevalent. This game is a great reinforcement of that idea. The more I watch this story, the more I start to get a feel for how the game wants to tell the story of John and River, that being backwards. Because of the game's structure it actually hits really hard, going further into the past and seeing happy moments BEFORE things get worse. To me it's a pretty neat and unique way to present the story.
