    So it's been a while since I checked on this video - I apologise for not responding to a lot of your questions sooner. I originally created this design as a proof of concept, firstly to see whether I could make a 3d printed drum which sounded half-decent, secondly to see if anyone is interested or not, and thirdly, to have a go at making a youtube video.
    I know this video only has relatively few views compared to some other channels, but I really didn't expect anyone to watch this! I'm honestly flattered and I'm feeling inspired to continue working on this project and complete the files for the official V1 design, which will allow you to set the diameter, depth, amount of lugs, and lug spacing for your drum. I have the time and the inclination to work on this again, so in a few weeks I should hopefully have another video for you all :)

    I appreciate the shoutout! Love where you've taken things from my design. It's definitely fun to experiment and make tweaks to the design. I had the opposite issue as far as volume, my drums were a bit quieter than my traditional drums. I kind of wish I had these in my days of hotel gigs when volume was always an issue. Looking forward to see where you take this, if you ever want to talk shop, let me know.

    I thought the sound wasn't bad just a bit dry. Have you considered making a deeper shell. This could theoretically produce more resonance due to more vibration through a deeper shell. Also, to increase the "cross stick" volume, consider increasing the width on the bearing edge. This should create more contact between the edge and the head in relation to the rim. Just a couple of thoughts.

    I always thought quick change bearing edges could be a cool concept. Swap them out like you would your heads for a different sound or try different materials with a free floating style shell but with 2 parts and a shell in the center and some style of quick release lugs that split the drum but keep tension on the heads and you can swap in a different shell material like brass or mahogany.

    I'd highly recommend trying out 3dxtech's pla+cf or petg+cf. I find that it gives a bit more rigidity than standard pla and better resonance. At least that's what I've found with my drums. Love the drum, the lugs look sick!

    If you have limitless bearing edge options Look up guru drums bearing edges they make any brand any wood sound pro. Other than that a vintage feel are round edges

    • @beau-haldane
      @beau-haldane  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Quite possibly, but it would take a very long time and use a ton of filament. I've been experimenting with printing hollow forms and filling them with other materials, so I have some ideas which might push this project further along very soon!

      Hey! This project/these files are just an initial proof of concept to see whether anyone is interested or not. It seems like there's a few people who are keen to try and make this project themselves, so I am going to work on a version of this design which is scalable to different diameters, depths, lug amounts, and lug hole spacings. It may take a few weeks to get the video done, but I have some free time right now and this is a great project to fill my time with.

    What print settings did you use? Infill percent?
    Do you think 100% infill would solve some of those issues you referred to?
    What if you did enough layer lines so it was all layer lines and no infill?
    Edit to add: would you consider doing the rest of the drums? That would take a lot more designing.

    • @beau-haldane
      @beau-haldane  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey mate, it has been a while since I made this, so I can't remember the exact slicer settings I used. I have listed some of them in the thingiverse link in the description. I didn't anticipate so many people being interested in my printer settings, so I will pay much more attention on the next video!
      I have definitely considered trying to make a whole drum kit using this method. There's a ton of added complexity with deeper drums, especially the kick drum, but I would love to have a go :)

      Not off the top of my head I'm sorry! I should point out that I designed these lugs and had them custom fabricated, so I just came up with a measurement that worked for me. I'm not sure whether you'd be able to find lugs with matching hole spacing. I will be releasing a design soon which will allow you to define your own hole spacing though!

      In a nutshell it was financial struggle that ended the business. I started the business late in 2017 with very little money. I reinvested all of the money I was making back into new tooling and materials and never really took any money for myself. This meant I was also working 4 days a week while running the business, working very long hours ever day. When lockdown happened in March of 2020, orders slowed to a complete halt, and I made the difficult decision to close up shop.

    • @beau-haldane
      @beau-haldane  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I definitely would love to get a printer with a larger print volume to try to make a shell in one piece. I would still make the bearing edges as removable pieces as it makes the bearing edge quality so much better being able to print them with the edges facing up
