Thank you for reviewing an upgraded (16GB) M3 iMac. Everyone else is reviewing the base 8GB version and then complain about the poor video processing and gaming performance. Your review gives us a much better view of the M3 capabilities.
I just received my purple M3 iMac! My first ever! I’m completely enamored with the design and of course the functionality. It’s such a fantastic investment and I look forward to utilizing it for the next decade!
I never thought about having an iMac as a family computer out in the living area. That is a great idea. They are amazing looking computers. Thanks for sharing.
Pretty sure the reason the Magic Mouse's charging port is in such a weird spot is because the whole lithium-ion battery assembly was just retrofitted into the existing AA battery Magic Mouse design. I hope they give it a full redesign at some point.
Maybe they are redesign them and haven't make it for the M3 iMac and they will release them sometime later next year which is the last year of selling non USB C wired charging product, they will have new option to select these at the iMac purchase option screen!
@@NetvoTV yeah, technically they can still sell lightning equipped things until the end of 2023 I believe, so this was also a guess I’ve made. Seems like simply changing the charging port to USB-C would not necessarily take all that long, so perhaps they are taking this opportunity to redesign the Magic Mouse… But it also could be that they are just simply getting rid of stock of the lightning equipped Magic Mice and Keyboards. That said, regardless of the reason for the delay, I think all of their accessories will switch to USB-C at the same time to avoid having the need to bundle two different charging cables along with every purchase.
@@yeknommonkey could be either, or both 🤷♂️. I definitely thought that too, but after looking at the bottom of my AA Magic Mouse, I had that epiphany. Just speculation, but it’s very surprising how the lightning port location almost lines up with the battery door latch on the other model.
Patrick, I really liked the office, the furniture, the use of 2 cameras, and (above all) the time and effort you took to set up the lights for this video. All that tells me you know hat you are talking about when it refers to video. Liked you honest opinion!
I’m a business owner, bookkeeping actually, and am excited because the programs I use for bookkeeping are iOS friendly now! It’s going to be a year, but I’m going to be going from PC to Apple! Like you, I like the all-in-one set up. My desktop is so congested right now that I just don’t have the workspace I need. As well, my iPad and iPhone are my preferred way of scheduling meetings and so forth, and with an iMac, it will be so much easier to update my calendar and have access to all my files anywhere I am. That's a really cool iMac and I think a lot of people will enjoy it. Had one for 9 years and loved it, but happier with a MBP and 2 external displays. Added a pair of Home Pod minis as the sound system and have a Magic Mouse and keyboard. For me, having a built in HDMI port and SD Card slot are a must. Also nice that the MBP isn't a slave to my desk. Look forward to watching further reviews on this beautiful machine though.

Thank you, for this fun review of your new colorful 24-inch iMac system. The "Gold" model is also my favorite color but, I would have selected the full size keyboard with a built-in number pad. What, I like the most is, this iMac is truly a portable desktop easy and light weight to carry throughout the house from room to room. In addition, with an outside extension cord it can also be used on a patio deck. While, my home office has the space for two desktop systems my problem is, I just do not have a need for it (smile...smile).

Macs are pretty versatile you can use a external hard drive if you want. If you'd want to share filea with a Windows system best to format it in FAT32, MS owns NTFS so macs dont work well with that format but FAT32 is limited to 4GB file size. So ya, you can expand the drive size externally but it comes with some limits if you plan to use the same external drive between mac and a windows pc.

The 24” isn’t as big of a size downgrade as you might think. After previously using a 27” setup for many years, I just adjusted the resolution and pulled it a couple of inches closer. I hardly even notice the difference in size. The 24” is also a 4.5k display, so better than 4k not quite 5k, in other words it’s really nice.
The "yellow" is the color I would pick as well ! I was excited to see that you set it on a shelf/stand at one point. I'm curious as to how tall that shelf is because I also have mine sitting on one that's similar and it's feeling like it's too high to work with. :)
@@PatrickRambles Thanks for all the links to the products. Some really nice ones too. My shelf is around the same height except with a 27" iMac on it so makes it too tall, and put a strain on the neck.🙂
I've still got a 21.5 inch iMac from 2011... had to upgrade the RAM modules & get an external SSD to speed it up.. still works very well (on High Sierra ).. nevertheless....I reckon the M3 iMac will be the one for me next year..... when I can afford it...... LOL !
@@kevin_mitchell High Sierra is fine but now I can’t update Safari and my banks and 401k won’t let me access my accounts because of it. That’s the main reason that I upgraded from my 2013 iMac to the new M3 iMac. I guess 10-years is the useful life of a $3,500.00 iMac. 💸💸💸 FJB 🖕🇨🇳
@@barackblows1942 That's understandable, it is getting old. There are a few sites where I have to use Firefox because Safari can't be updated. I guess it'll only get worse, and mine's 4 years older than yours.
ironically, I'm watching this video on my 2013 27" iMac. I've upped the RAM to 24GB and I now use an external SSD for my system (This didn't have the internal SSD, but I've been tempted to break it open and install one, but not yet). Now I don't do any heavy duty computing on it but what I use it for, it still works great. The biggest challenge is that because I can't upgrade from Catalina (unless I hack it) there is now some software that isn't supported and some features I'd love to have from more recent OS's. Point is, I really can't think of another computer that has stood the test of time so well and I'm sure your new iMac will be useful for years to come. One disclaimer, is that if they did come out with a 27", I might pull the trigger. But now, downsizing would be tough.
They need to put a battery in this thing and a handle on top so you can charge it and move it to the couch or the dining room table. A household portable. It's so light and thin, if they just did that I would buy it for home.
Always thorough, from beginning to end, very Nice iMac you chose, love the color and feature set, have an M2 pro I'm happy with, no need to upgrade, Curious can you you use the iPhone as a camera as you can with the MacBooks?(Continuity camera I mean)..Keep the cool videos coming!
I am thinking of getting a M2 Air base model, but ... I guess I should do 16GB for that too eh? Future-proofing. I don't plan to do much with it, just for office work and consuming content on the go
Is that a ScanSnap document scanner you have in the background. If so, can you do a review on it & experience. I have gone paperless and has been amazing
Great video! Thank you for sharing your first Mac experience (2009 27” iMac). Mine was a 2008 MacBook Pro, which I bought in January of that year. Since then I’ve been using Macs. Currently using a M1 Mac Studio with 32G of ram and 2TB internal drive along with the Studio Display. I replaced my aging late 2013 27” iMac with it. Now I wish I had waited for the M3’s but am happy with what I have. 😊
I have the maxed out M1 iMac with 16 GB / 2 TB and it runs everything fast and fine and a really clean setup. One problem is virtual machines will give me out of memory messages. This isn't a show stopper since I still have a 27 inch iMac with a i7 that has memory for those things. I am planning on upgrading soon and still have mixed feelings since I don't run Final Cut Pro. The M3 should be fine for me, 24 GB may just be enough. Part of me wants to make the jump to the Pro Macs.
I love the look and feel and the all in one nature of the iMacs. But I wouldn't buy one as my main workhorse. What I love about the M3 Macbook Pro is that I don't have to worry about running out of anything. The downside is the (slightly insane) price.
We live in a crazy world when people buy ultra portable laptop computers for the heaviest computing tasks and big desktop computers as the "family computer" for casual computing. It makes no sense.
Because a laptop CPU always will be a compromise between battery life, heat generation and computing power, while a desktop computer has no such constraints. No serious video editor would even have considered a laptop computer as his primary work station just 10 years ago @@PatrickRambles
Thank you currently using a 2012 imac with Catalina & need a new machine. Use old version of final cut pro & davinci resolve works w/ short videos. For longer videos i use davinci on my moms m1 macbook air. Was leaning towards 16 but thinking 24 for sure after seeing your video. Also am between orange & yellow colour but love the look of the yellow. Been a Mac user all my life so used to the magic mouse. Thanks. Where did you get that cool padding under the keyboard & mouse. Maybe you listed it I’ll look.
Real nice. I was considering recently whether or not I should have gone with an iMac but actually I prefer adding my own keyboards and mouse instead of the Apple ones. I have a Mac mini and also Macbook Air currently
How did you connect? WiFi or ethernet? Any thoughts for someone planning to use ethernet and what is the best cable to make the connect. Is the CAT7 the go to nowadays or are most people still using CAT6?
I'm using wifi 6 for this iMac. The CAT on the cables depends on the cables running in your house and your modem I guess :). CAT 6 probably still most common.
Am I the only one thinking why didn't you also get the color matched Magic Trackpad instead of the Magic Mouse - especially if you don't plan on using it?
hi, why I can't bring 24gb ram version? I want to use my iMac for 10 years and I think it's useful, why not? thank you for the video. my config is 1terbyte and 24gb ram (for simply uses, simple editing, simple gaming etc... but just ready for everything yeah...) What do you say?
I feel that I must add something when Patrick spoke about the storage and unified memory. 8GB of unified memory and 256 GB of storage is more than enough if you are purchasing a certain amount of iCloud storage space monthly. It is also more than enough if your use for your iMac is typical, web surfing, typing papers/correspondence, video watching, Zoom/video calls/meetings, and other alike tasks. ONLY and ONLY if you intend to use your iMac to run certain software do you need anything beyond this, like the video editing that he mentioned. For example, a geneticist uses certain software for work in forensic genealogy, so this labor-intensive software would require a better computer. Since he uses his M3 MacBook Pro for the same thing, I agree that he should have maxed out the features on that device as well as chose a Pro instead of an Air, although other TH-camrs have tested the Air and deemed it pretty much just as capable. I bought my iMac for ergonomic reasons and do use it as my primary device, but I also have an M2 MacBook Air, base model of course, that is basically an extension of my iMac. But definitely consider saving all your files and work to your iCloud storage so you can access it on any apple device.
So I bought the M1 last year 16GB and stupidly bought 256GB - I’m constantly running out of hard drive space I use external drives when I can but I do wildlife photography with each picture being 50 megapixel. my M1 struggles to even scroll through pictures on Lightroom. Is it stupid to upgrade to the M3 with 2 TB of storage and start over with a better set up.
Hi Patrick I don’t know quite much about these things I’m looking to buy very soon. What’s the difference with the i7 is it possible to add it to this one ?
The i7 is an Intel processor used in the old Macs including the iMacs. The new iMac uses the M3 processor developed by Apple exclusively for its products. It is much, much faster than the i7. You would not want to install one in a Mac even if you could.
Not too keen on that power cable being so easy to pull out. My dogs often get around my feet and have never pulled my windows plug out no matter what, but that magnetic one looks like too risky.
The processor can certainly compete, but there is more to it. I guess it largely depends on the software you use and whether it's available on Mac. This video (Ryzen 9 vs M2) lays it out pretty well th-cam.com/video/-zYVEvoJIS4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QvfP7WaGomsHWIQi
I was considering one as a family computer but I simply can't justify spending 400 dollars to upgrade to what I consider the bare minimum memory specs when market prices for the extra 8gb ram stick and 512gb m.2 ssd totals maybe 50 dollars. At 1300 I think it'd be worthwhile for the nice screen and minimalist look of the setup. But you almost need to spend 1700 because of the memory scam and then it's just too much for the family computer role which can be filled more than adequately by a 500 dollar pc setup.
Someone was in a hurry and didn’t order the version with colour matching trackpad instead of the silly mouse…. 😅 Loved my iMac 🖥️ M1 but these days used a Studio Display with my MBP, only for the bigger display.
Patrick, before the review: "This iMac will be the family computer." Patrick, immediately after the review: "... Maybe a few more weeks, for more testing..." Patrick, a month from now: "MY PWECIOOOUSSH!"
The Magic Mouse 2 with lightning came out 8 years ago. On average I plug this mouse in 2 or 3 times a year. A simple 15 min charge will give you 2 months of usage. If you can’t find 15 min to charge this mouse without complaining, you have other issues in your life.
It's not that I can't. Of course I can. It's just that it's a major design flaw which I can't accept from a company that is built on performance and design excellence.
I would like to have iMac if it handles HDR videos as well as 16 inch MBP with miniLED display…the screen is just better to watch anything 😂 I heard sound is better but, I can’t experience that in Apple store 😅
As casual/family all-in-one computer, the iMac M3 is quite costly at £2100 for 24GB/1TB, though I can't deny it looks gorgeous. But when it comes time to upgrade you can't reuse the iMac's screen - such a waste.
The camera is NOT garbage. It looks the same as my 15 pro max camera using handoff. Conversely, the camera on the Studio Display is absolute trash. Apple should be ashamed for including that thing at the price tag they sell it at.
I tried out the iMac too, I had a 2014 iMac i7 but did not like it, Liked the 5k screen but other then that it wasn’t for me and I sold it, To help me buy a second XDR display for my Mac Pro, I’m trying out something different I bought my first Apple silicon Mac, A 16inch MacBook Pro M3 Max, I’m going to try it out but if I don’t like it going back to the Mac Pro, I ‘m use to buying Mac Pro’s from 2008-2019 I bought around 4 Mac Pro’s that’s goto computer but this year the Mac Pro is such a let down not paying $12k for a empty box and that’s why trying out something different
@34skyline I can't wait for my M3 Max to arrive. If I had to pick only one Mac, I'd always pick the MacBook. Hook it up to an external display and you've got yourself a full setup 💪
I forced myself to use (and learn) a Magic Mouse and now I actually prefer it to all other mice. The secret sauce is in Mission Control and virtual desktops. I set up a desktop for each workflow and then effortlessly flip between them with the Magic Mouse. There is no better way to do this .. not in heaven or here on Earth. The charging complaints are overblown. First, use the desktop power widget to monitor the charge, if it's low at the end of the day - plug it in! If you failed at that and it dies next the day .. plug it in! Then grab a drink or hit the bathroom and when you come back you can unplug and finish the day. No big. Finally, I love the iMac. The number of colors you can select from is pure joy. The 24" screen has more pixels that ANY PC monitor you can get.. Well, without spending more than you did for the iMac. The M3 chip is a welcome upgrade, but don't forget the other upgrades (RAM, SSD, numpad keyboard) to make it perfect. It costs more, but perfection usually does.
@@PatrickRambles It stinx that way, def. The next project is to find USB-C to the old USB adapter. Mostly for older items I own. I bought a Late 2013 iMac from Amazon Renewed in 2018 for $660! But the updates ended at Catalina. It was time upgrade. So a match of this and iPhone 14 and I'm doing great. The migration tool took forever, but I DID NOT LOSE ONE FILE. Overall, a great experience.

Point is, I really can't think of another computer that has stood the test of time so well and I'm sure your new iMac will be useful for years to come. One disclaimer, is that if they did come out with a 27", I might pull the trigger. But now, downsizing would be tough.
Yeah I agree, 27" was the better screen size
Cool video. Thanks a lot for heaps of information ℹ️
Much appreciated 🤝
They need to put a battery in this thing and a handle on top so you can charge it and move it to the couch or the dining room table. A household portable. It's so light and thin, if they just did that I would buy it for home.
Aesthetics of your studio ❤
Thank you!! 😊
I love how you love everything yellow 💛
:)
I have to say I'm not really a fan of the yellow, but after you set yours up you have me thinking yellow looks pretty smooth!!!
Good information. Just ordered one. Can you tell me where I can find a desk pad like yours?
Where can I buy that keyboard @7:27?
Will you be using the IMAC with a second monitor? If so we could we see that setup.
Hello, Have you noticed any issues with the iMac 60Hz display? any differences than your other computers?
Sure you'll notice it when scrolling fast or playing games.
Thanks Charles! Yes you can use your iPhone. There's also some pretty great third party webcam options. Plenty of options :)
I am thinking of getting a M2 Air base model, but ... I guess I should do 16GB for that too eh? Future-proofing. I don't plan to do much with it, just for office work and consuming content on the go
def go 16gb. You really don't want 8bg ram in 2023-2024.
Awesome video, it's fun & informative. 😊
Thanks man!
Is that a ScanSnap document scanner you have in the background. If so, can you do a review on it & experience. I have gone paperless and has been amazing
Can't wait to see your full review. If you can test it with Logic Pro for a small project--even a podcast interview, that would be great.
What monitor stand are you using?
is the 16gb 500GB good for editing for youtube videos with my iphone 12 pro max? thanks
Yeah should be fine.
The studio is a beast! And now you have the choice of monitor.
24” is way too small for me when sitting at a desk. 27” iMac is the perfect design for pro use. I really hope they reconsider.
Hey Nick! What do you consider pro use?
I couldn’t wait for M3 iMac, so I bought a Mac Mini M2 Pro in June and have connected with a Samsung 34” widescreen monitor.
Is the imac screen quality the same as the Apple studio display screen quality?
@@PatrickRambles I am expecting a OLED for the next MacBook Pro. I wonder if that is realistic. Watching to see what the iPads get soon.
We live in a crazy world when people buy ultra portable laptop computers for the heaviest computing tasks and big desktop computers as the "family computer" for casual computing. It makes no sense.
Why not?
Because a laptop CPU always will be a compromise between battery life, heat generation and computing power, while a desktop computer has no such constraints. No serious video editor would even have considered a laptop computer as his primary work station just 10 years ago @@PatrickRambles
This. That computer costs thousands of dollars, thats not a family computer.
What do you do on your old Macbook Pro's? I assume its all spec out as well M1 Max M2 Max
Real nice. I was considering recently whether or not I should have gone with an iMac but actually I prefer adding my own keyboards and mouse instead of the Apple ones. I have a Mac mini and also Macbook Air currently
Nice! Yeah I'm definitely replacing that mouse.
So is the 16gb iMac is enough for the next 3-4 years? I use it for emails, web browsing watching videos, light photo editing and video editing.
I'd say so, yes.
Am I the only one thinking why didn't you also get the color matched Magic Trackpad instead of the Magic Mouse - especially if you don't plan on using it?
hi,
why I can't bring 24gb ram version? I want to use my iMac for 10 years and I think it's useful, why not?
thank you for the video.
my config is 1terbyte and 24gb ram (for simply uses, simple editing, simple gaming etc... but just ready for everything yeah...)
What do you say?
Of course you can pick 24GB
The Apple Watch strap looks fantastic. What brand is it from?
Hi Patrick I don’t know quite much about these things I’m looking to buy very soon. What’s the difference with the i7 is it possible to add it to this one ?
The i7 is an Intel processor used in the old Macs including the iMacs. The new iMac uses the M3 processor developed by Apple exclusively for its products. It is much, much faster than the i7. You would not want to install one in a Mac even if you could.
great video bro🔥
Thanks 💯
Not too keen on that power cable being so easy to pull out. My dogs often get around my feet and have never pulled my windows plug out no matter what, but that magnetic one looks like too risky.
It's not as easy as it's seems. No way a dog will unplug that, it's not like a magsafe cable.
Can you share where to buy the monitor stand you have on it?
It’s by Grovemade. If you go to their website, you’ll find it, it’s the medium size.
Congratulations Bro 👍😊.
How about the Benq external monitor which you have ?. I remember i saw in one of your video 😊. Did you sold that ?
Nope! I use that in my home office, love that display!
@@PatrickRambles ❤Nice to know bro 😊
@@PatrickRambles which monitor has the best screen quality?
Looks fireeeee
🙌🙌
Would have loved an iMac, but I can't type well without glancing at my keyboard ever so often. So I end up nodding my head a lot with a desktop setup😆
Fair enough!😅
Hey, Patrick, for working in the field of architecture, do you believe that a Ryzen 9 processor could be replaced by the latest best version of IMacs?
Patrick, before the review: "This iMac will be the family computer."
Patrick, immediately after the review: "... Maybe a few more weeks, for more testing..."
Patrick, a month from now: "MY PWECIOOOUSSH!"
Hahahaha
“I shoot in 4K”, but the maximum resolution option on TH-cam is 2160p?
What is the game name you presented in your pretty yellow iMac?
Tombraider :)
For a few shekels more I got the trackpad and a few more shekels the numeric keypad.
M3 iMac + 24 GB + 2 TB.
Would love to see an update!🎉
Noted and on the list!
Congrats!
🙏🏻
Looking for Imac with m3pro, 1TB ssd 64gb ram 4 tb4 , 2 usb3
Has this iMac the fan noise?
Not yet!
For THAT price, why not M2Max Studio?
The Magic Mouse 2 with lightning came out 8 years ago. On average I plug this mouse in 2 or 3 times a year. A simple 15 min charge will give you 2 months of usage. If you can’t find 15 min to charge this mouse without complaining, you have other issues in your life.
It's not that I can't. Of course I can. It's just that it's a major design flaw which I can't accept from a company that is built on performance and design excellence.
keeping my Imac 2015 😊
I would like to have iMac if it handles HDR videos as well as 16 inch MBP with miniLED display…the screen is just better to watch anything 😂 I heard sound is better but, I can’t experience that in Apple store 😅
As casual/family all-in-one computer, the iMac M3 is quite costly at £2100 for 24GB/1TB, though I can't deny it looks gorgeous.
But when it comes time to upgrade you can't reuse the iMac's screen - such a waste.
gees that yellow is making re think my green
New IMac coming today…my last was a 2009 also!
Haha nice!
Have you considered a mac studio?
@@PatrickRambles I will probably going to try the studio next after I try out the MacBook Pro if this laptop does not work out for me
@34skyline I can't wait for my M3 Max to arrive. If I had to pick only one Mac, I'd always pick the MacBook. Hook it up to an external display and you've got yourself a full setup 💪
@@PatrickRamblesyea me to, My MacBook Pro should ship on the 16th now it’s just a waiting game
Why didn't you pay 50€ more for the yellow Magic Trackpad 3 instead of saving it and getting the Magic Mouse that you didn't want anyway?
That was the option that was still available here.
I own a M3 iMac with 16GB RAM & 512GB SSD. My laptop is the 16-inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro with 1TB SSD. Macs are super important to my life.
Great setup.
what monitor is that at 1:21 ?
That beast is a 48" OLED screen by INNOCN. I'm working on video about that PC build, will cover the monitor there as well.
@@PatrickRambles awesome thanks. Love the look of it. Sleek 👌
I just can’t decide what Color…..
It’s been a while Pat! - I need to catch up… 😅
Yessir!
Your room looks so great..
Thank you!!
You're now required to wear that matching sweater every time you use the iMac! 😉
You know it!
It DOES right click. I had to look up how to do it. It had to be enabled. Which is kind of stupid when you think about it!!!!
It "kinda" does but it's incredibly annoying, having to click it just right.
The Magic Mouse is not bad
It was awesome when it first came out
It’d be nice to see them update to something new though
But it’s Apple
They do what Apple does
The newer iMacs look really weird with the blank lower bezel. I was never a fan of the Apple logo there but now it just looks like wasted space.
I’ll be getting a green iMac soon
Sweet!
