Finding a huge cave in the woods | Roomy Mine | With The Traveling Ronman

- Roomy mine is located in the Norvin Green State Forest in NJ. We parked in the small gravel lot on Westbrook Rd. We then walked to Townsend Rd and started the trail there. The loop trail is a 2.5 mile hike and it’s pretty rocky with a lot of uphills. We found a small sign saying that the cave was closed from Sep 15 to April 15 due to bats living there. There were several overhangs that were just false openings. Eventually, we found the entrance. We had to get on our bellies to crawl inside. It does open up where you can stand and walk around. There is a tunnel inside that does go farther back but dead ends. Bring a flashlight.

The entrance to the cave is narrow, but the inside is spacious. It must be dangerous to be alone. I enjoyed the video ^^

Wow what a great job in filming this adventure. This trail had a little bit of everything, rocky steep parts, flat parts, some wildlife and looking for the cave was fun. This is some of your best work Craig. I'm honored to have done this with you. The cave was even better then I was expecting. It turned out to be a bit more challenging then I was expecting in terms of the terrain but it was still a fun hike. Who knew NJ had this awesome landscape. I'm just glad we didn't get eaten by something in that cave.

Beautiful trail worth it perhaps just for the challenge of it. Good to have a buddy entering an old mine like that. Looks like a drill hole for chisel or dynamite. Interesting adventure. You got a good sweat on so the cool cave must have felt nice. Helmet a good tip. Cheers 34

Thanks Hatuey. This was a fun exciting day. The hike was great and the cave was interesting. It was honestly scary to crawl in there but once on the other side it became easy. I’m just glad we didn’t encounter any rattlesnakes. That’s what I was actually worried about.

Hey Craig, great job! @travelingRonman just tipped us off that you also had a video of the mine. I'm sorry I didn't find it earlier. I found your shorts but hadn't realized you had a full-length video. And wow, you didn't disappoint here. Looks like you guys took a different route than us. We put together our own custom AllTrails route that brought us over Ball Mountain and approached the mine from the other side. The trail that way brings you right up to the entrance. I wasn't even aware there was that other false opening on the other side. Ro and I had some good chuckles while watching you slip and bash your head. 😂 And of course, 👍👍for keeping the trail clean!
Oh yeah, this was fun. I enjoyed this hike with Ron and I like the way the video came out. Usually I’m the lead and do all the planning. It was nice to leave Ron with that responsibility as I just followed along. Ouch my head. The fall was funny. 😂🤣

Nice to see you two hiking together. The entrance to the cave looked tough, but quite roomy once you were in there. Really neat to see the opening/skylight at the top. I also liked seeing the frog and slug you found along your hike. I always like to see critters and wildlife while outdoors.

Thank you. I didn’t want to take all the glory so yeah I let him go first. Rattlesnakes were my biggest fear. That was prime living area for them- Very rocky. I thought Gen would love this but she said the daddy longlegs were too creepy. She will more than likely be in the next video.

You had an exciting day Craig. After a nice hike, that cave. What an adventure. The entrance is a bit claustrophobic, I don't think I would dare. We in Croatia have a lot of caves, especially in the karst regions, but the ones I was in were arranged for visitors.

Fabulous video Craig as always so watchable and this is the sort of place Alf and I love. The woods were beautiful, well done on removing peoples leftovers ! Caves fascinate me and that cave/ mine looked huge :) you were brave going in not knowing what was there, good thing it opened up but you didn't know that until you crawled in. Hipe your head is OK, like you said a helmet would have helped 🙂

Thank you. It was a fun exciting day. It was easier going in the cave second. If Ron started to scream, I’d think twice about entering. We could see that it opened up but it was very uncomfortable not knowing if any rattlesnakes were on the ground. Luckily, we didn’t see any. My head is okay. It only hurt for a few seconds but you could actually hear the thud on camera. Hope you have a great weekend.

Thank you. This was definitely a good hike. I mostly use my iPhone 15 pro to film everything. If I need something on a tripod where I walk through the scene then I will use my GoPro hero 11. Sometimes those rock piles are used to guide you along the trail. Some people just build them because it’s cool art. I was honestly worried about rattlesnakes. Luckily we didn’t crawl over any while entering the cave. It was a fun day.
