I think the song is amazing, and it certainly doesn’t seem like 10 minutes has gone by. It’s not just a “song.” It’s…so much more. I don’t even know what to say except that it is my favorite they’ve ever made.

For anyone that hasn't read Dave's memoir, this song really hits you hard if you have. There's a section where Dave talks about how fearful he was to approach his mother, the school teacher that he wished to drop out of school and shoot for his dream in playing music for a living. As anyone would have been, he goes on to say how shocked he was at the support he received. Go for your dreams! There's an awful lot of people out there that can only wish to have that kind of relationship with their mother.
Hey kid, what's plan for tomorrow - where will I wake up...? 🎸

They really did knock it out of the park, such a solid album from start to finish and incredibly moving. Even Anthony Fantano (theneedledrop) gave it a ton of praise. I lost my brother not too long ago, so the album's themes of loss and closure are especially poignant for me. Didn't exactly have "bawling my eyes out to the Foo Fighters" on my 2023 bingo card, but here we are.

I just got home from seeing Foo Fighters in concert in Rogers, Arkansas U.S.
My first time seeing them ever, and it was a spectacular 2hr and 20min set.
They played "The Teacher" as the closer, and it was a very moving performance. They played the full 10min cut of the song, and I could feel how personal this song was to Dave Grohl.

Amazing song, I love the key choices. So emotional. The video is an amazing emotional journey also. The part where the guys each hold a leg or arm and his head - like they’re teaching him how to walk again…that hits me in the heart. Who am I kidding, all of it stabs my heart.
This song is next to last on the album. The last one is called “Rest” and I haven’t made it through without crying so far, but don’t let that keep you from hearing it. It’s epic and amazing as well. This album is an amazing tribute to Taylor and Dave’s mother. Two extraordinary humans. ❤️

The song and the video remind me so much of Seattle in the 90's. This is the kind of video my friends made in College in Olympia in the early 80's, but much more polished. This is both totally new and very nostalgic at the same time. Lovely. They aren't resting on their laurels like so many bands with new hits. This one is just as good and creative as they were back in the day.

Inspired by the grief of losing his mother the teacher may ultimately be Death. Death brings us to grief which is expressed gratitude for that we have lost. The yin and yang with out the absence of joy would we ever truly acknowledged Joys existence ? Unfortunately all to often we don't recognize it in the moment until the light is extiguished. Love the ones you love ferociously, now. Love the breath you have that allows you to do so, now (breathe), now, (breathe) and now. This song is a gift.

  • @sundaygurrrl
    @sundaygurrrl ปีที่แล้ว +2

I feel like we are privy to things his mother used to say to him. "Hey kid, who's at the door now? What's the plan for tomorrow?"
It's uncomfortable and comforting at the same time. I feel such tremendous sadness for his loss. It's the strangest feeling for someone you admire and love from afar. For his strength and what incredible friendship he has shown, to each and every one of us in some way- those of us who are true fans and don't come on mediums to bag him out for vaccinations and whatever that shit was all about. He is exquisite our Dave. To share this. I don't know what I mean or if I am making sense. I hear Sonic Youth in the middle- Song for Karen I think You are such a Kool thing Dave. may all the gods bless you always and forever, you good thing x

PIXIES are my favorite band of all time, and of cours eyou know all too well how influential they were on Nirvana. But I feel like that was primarily Kurt and I've never heard much influence on Foo Fighters so it's super interesting you connected that part 9:40 to Gouge Away. No idea whether its a conscious influence or just a bit of coincidence, but it's cool either way. I'm happy that Dave and the boys are back so soon. Maybe playing again is cathartic in many ways.

Definitely their rawest album since Wasting Light, but I'm really struggling with the drive to listen to it, although "The Teacher" definitely sticks out on the album, it also perfectly encapsulates what a tough listen the entire piece is. Dave's mom Virginia and of course Taylor flow through so much of this record, it feels very much like an "afterlife" album. I'm just blessed and grateful to hear a new collection from Foo Fighters, they are the bedrock of my musical tastes growing up in the 90s and 00s.

This song has blown me away! I'm no muso and so have got any notes/chords from a website but it's the variety of notes which are very unfoo. G#, Bm, D6 etc suggest an almost uncontrolled range of emotions. It's their "Funeral for a Friend" with Pink Floyd, etc. This is the Foo Fighters on a new level. On a number of posts, I've referred to it as their magnum opus.

A good album, and The Teacher I felt was most definitely the stand out. Love it!

It reminds me of CSNY kinda stuff, with some prog rock hints...so many layers as the man in charge is a former music fan, before being an "houseoldname" in r'n'r...and for sure... for so much pain to descibe/share in a song.
    Respect.

The 'Pixies' part sounds like a Fuckbuttons part as well. You might like them.

Kinda reminds me of a life changing psychedelic experience that changes how you view life.

This one, Under You, and Rescued hit like trucks.

being a huge foos fan i love the new album but too hard to listen to for the first few times, especially rest, brings a 6ft 51yr old scotsman to lumps in his throat everytime. I seriously doubt we will ever hear Rest live, dave, the band and the audience would be in floods of tears. the teacher is a classic but almost as sad if you know what daves endured lately with taylor and his mum.

I'm guessing that at least portion of the video is AI. Can't imagine a person sitting on a computer and building every scene by hand. And guitar tones are amazing. It's all over the place but the last year and a half for Dave and the Foo Fighters was all over the place.... Masterpiece album
