Udolph entered all the known family names in the village at that time and then started searching for matches elsewhere. He found that the same surnames occur with amazing frequency in the regions of Prignitz and Uckermark, both north of Berlin. He also found the same surnames in the former Pomeranian region, which is now a part of Poland." according to wiki

    • @DasSpaceAce
      @DasSpaceAce 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @MC W20 OFICIAL Uhm...the original story is based on something that actually happened & some versions he brought them back once the people of Hamelin paid him... I could *maybe* understand your point if he was shown to be abusive to the children in any way, but he's not. By saying him leading them off & being the only adult makes him seem like a pedophile, you're projecting your own subconscious thoughts onto him, whether they're fears, desires or concerns.
      I recommend going & watching Jon Solo's video on the Pied Piper of Hamelin's origins, he breaks down the story, it's history & potential meanings very well & points out that in all likelihood the story is just a fantasy & the "disappearing children of Hamelin" referred to them growing up & immigrating away from the town.
      Like all fables though, it's supposed to teach children (& adults) a lesson, in this case that lesson is "don't be a dick & go back on your word, otherwise you might pay for it dearly". It's supposed to be unsettling. Pretty much every fairy tale ever was originally dark & even frightening to teach children about how cruel the world could be. Alot of them have been changed, softened & otherwise adapted to make them happier, more palatable & less frightening, but they also lose their original lesson & value.
      For example, originally, Cinderella didn't get the prince in the end, her stepmother killed her & one of the sisters cut off (at least) one of her toes so her foot would fit & she married him - all in an effort to teach kids that wishing for better things didn't pay off & could be dangerous. Instead, now it's been changed & adapted so that she gets her prince in the end - and in doing that, we ended up with an overwhelming amount of young girls who grew up "waiting for prince charming to whisk them away", inadvertently teaching them that they needed a man to 'save them' before their lives would be good.

    To those who think the mountain kingdom is a metaphor for the afterlife, they're wrong - this is actually taken from the Robert Browning poem which the dialogue also borrows from, which ends with the Piper leading the children through a portal in the mountain. The poem also mentions that a tribe of Gypsies turns up later in Transylvania descended from those children coming out the other side. The boy on crutches is the only one who doesn't make it, and regrets it the rest of his life. Disney obviously didn't think that was fair and decided to have him join the others.

    I think the Pied Piper caused the story to happen. Here's my theory:
    I think the Pied Piper heard about the people of Hamlin including the mayor. So he cunningly promised the rats that if they cooperate with him by infesting Hamlin and following him when he plays his flute, he will award with them a huge amount of cheese.
    And his plan works because the rats invade the town and he successfully 'drives' them away and they get the cheese as promised.
    Then the piper performs a secret test of character by asking for them money the mayor promised him. But unlike the piper the mayor didn't keep to his end of the bargain which was what the piper feared.
    Knowing his worst fears were realised the piper leads the kids away so they cannot end up like their parents or the mayor and raises them as his own.

    • @kryptonianpowers
      @kryptonianpowers ปีที่แล้ว +22

      I think the story of the Pied Piper is more of a moral of what happens when you cheat someone out of something in promise from your greed and hubris, you'll learn the very hard way that something precious will be taken from you in vengeful retribution and you will never get it back at all afterwards based on your sins of false promises and fraudulence.

    • @user-iq2sc7us8r
      @user-iq2sc7us8r ปีที่แล้ว +6

      As far as I remember, the mayor did suspect something of the kind and it was one of the reasons for his fatal decision. Depends on who cheated first. The moral, methinks, is to mutually keep the word, just like the contract - that is, unless the real proof emerges of the other side treachery. The mayor refused to keep the agreement, thus provoking the piper. And the mayor mistaked the pied piper - who was obviously seen by mutiple witnesses demonstarting skills above average (who knows what he is also capable of?) - for being a harmless trickster, which led to a poor thinking and a harsh decision. Bad job.

      I think that the most “light” version of the Pied Piper of Hamelin suitable for children is one that my brother read. In that version, the Pied Piper is the music teacher of Hamelin’s children and sends the rats to live to the forest with other animals so they don’t annoy the Hamelinians. When the Mayor refuses to pay the Piper, the kids give him the idea to play music to bring back the rats, leading the Mayor to eventually pay the Piper and realize that promises must be kept.
      In the version I read as a kid, it was only the Mayor and some of his ministers who refused to pay back the Pied Piper, leading him to trap the kids in a cave until the town pressured the Mayor to pay him back and apologize. As I read this version as a kid, I was amazed when I read the original one.

I suppose they are going to hang him for his corruption since he was the one who provoked the Pied Piper into luring the children away🤔🤔🤨🤨

    The way the whole town laughed after they gyped the piper makes me think it wasn't a good place for kids to grow up.
    But that big wheel of cheese and the playground is disguising the lake and the resulting deaths of the original story. Especially evident when the disabled kid no longer needed his crutches.
    So I wonder what to make of this. Maybe the piper was some benign angel taking the kids out of the corrupt and wicked world (evident on how the townspeople behaved and not a single adult spoke up agains the behavior) and straight to heaven.
    //
    The town was crushed into extreme poverty, and the people there endured decades of extreme hardship and suffering, their baffoonish king beheaded and replaced with a cold extreme taskmaster and brutal dictator. The townspeople are reduced to wearing burlap sacks, and chained in iron collars and shackles to prevent any revolt or escape.
