Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the murders of his wife and her lover and is sentenced to a tough prison. However, only Andy knows he didn't commit the crimes. While there, he forms a friendship with Red (Morgan Freeman), experiences brutality of prison life, adapts, helps the warden, etc., all in 19 years.
Absolutely incredible movie. Definitely deserves the praise it gets!
When Brooks leaves, the camera is pointed behind him, looking back at the prison. When Red leaves, the camera is pointed forward, looking to the way out.

I love the warden’s monologue when Andy is in solitary. So evil - but so iconic.
I believe the ending in the movie was added after test audiences asked for it. The original ending was when Red was on the bus “I hope.”
Always makes me cry, this and The Green Mile 😭🦋
Green Mile will be sometime in the future I’ve heard it’s a tear jerker haha
In the book, the character of Red was Irish
It’s not a 1:1 but there are some of similarities between this story and the story of Joseph. Falsely imprisoned, rises up the ranks, etc.
One of my top 5 favorite films of all time.

Even when Red was worried about Andy harming himself..Andy was positive.. positive he would win free from the prison.. positive he could get the note and money under the volcanic stone in a rock wall where he and his wife once made love under the oak tree...yes hope is a good thing..he was positive about that...
