    This and your other beginner's video series is absolutely fantastic. Thanks to you I have successfully installed the ZOHD kopilot in my trainer and successfully taught myself to fly. Now I'm getting into FPV with Inav and a MATEKSYS F722 WING (because that's what you're using) fc following along with this video series. Thank you for your contribution to our hobby, it's easily the very best on youtube for people like myself, I'm not sure where I'd be without it - probably still at the bench trying to decipher the kopilot documentation and not having flown yet I suspect.

    Hi - I have been following the series and think it's really great. I used to fly RC as a kid back in the 70's and I'm trying to get back into the hobby. I just purchased the MATEK 411 WSE and I installed the INAV 4.0 Configurator. Is the INAV 4.0 the correct version of the Configurator for the MATEK 411 WSE or do I need an older version? Thanks Jim

    Fantastic video, Lee! Thanks a lot! 😃
    Let me ask you something... Do you think it's better to start flying manually (I mean an airplane without flight controller or anything) or I should start with iNav right away? I still couldn't build my first airplane. 😬
    Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You do need to know the basics to setup iNav in a FW so some manual experience is handy. If you can get another pilot to help set it up then things like Angle mode can be a boon to help pilots learn to fly..

    Trying to update a couple of OmnibusF4 pro controllers that have V2.1.0 to V2.6 and eventually the latest.
    Running on a v2.1.4 configurator as the later ones will not recognise the board until I update the board software first.
    Have checked "version" to find the board type and have saved both a "dump" txt and a "diff all" txt file.
    Currently trying to follow the instructions to first go from board software V2.1.0 to V2.6 as it recommends.
    It says to ....... " Now it's time to change your settings file so it becomes compatible with the latest INAV firmware. Follow your specific version instructions."
    So where is this "your settings" ?????? ....Cannot see any reference to lines they recommend to change in the "diff all"........
    So is it in the "dump" text file I saved.............. or in the new download v2.6..??.......................rather confusing but sure there is a simple explanation.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    From your CLI file, it seems the rth_altitude=7000, seems to mean 7000'? If correct, isn't that rather high?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope, see what the value means in the docs. You can look any setting here - github.com/iNavFlight/inav/blob/master/docs/Settings.md. 7000 equals 70m or 229ft so is a decent starting height to fly back with. The files are supplied as a guide only. Edit them to your preference but check the units before you change anything. Best of luck!

    At the beginning and end of the video the video shows a cable that connects the receiver to the flight controller. It is different on each end. At one end it connect to the receiver. And at the other end it connects with what looks like GPIO (General Purpose Input Output) pins. What is the name of the cable (or wiring) and the name of the ends (one appears white & the other black)? How does one order such an item? And how are the GPIOs attached to the flight controller? Thank you.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most cables used to connect things in the hobby are Dupont 'servo' cables that are easy to buy in the length you need or get the parts to make them up yourself (see my video on Crimping). Some smaller receivers designed to be used with flight controllers and use SBUS or things like CRSF use different, smaller connectors and they usually come with a cable that you can solder onto to make up what you need. Check out my build series aimed at beginners to see more. Happy flying!

    Gday Lee All of your videos are so informative and I learn something from every single one. I seem to have nothing but trouble with this electronic stuff, I have a F722-wing i have soldered on all the pins, checked continuity and all seems to be ok, when I plug in my FC to iNav I am unable to connect, when I connect to the computer I only see the red light comes on solid at 3.3, No brief flashing lights at one and zero like on your video. I have installed the STM USB driver and the zadig and have ALSO run the Impulse driver fixer and also held down the DFU button on the F722 but nothing, except "failed to open port" and red light at 3.3 stays on also the FC unit gets warm? I have tried different combinations of trying to connect once"failed to open port " and then restarting iNav without "failed to open port" showing, and I have tried every USB cable in the house.I hope you have another idea, Thank You for any help!

    Hello Andrew
    Thank you for all your videos.
    I install my Inav on my laptop but when I hook up my F705 board Inav tells me I'm missing a port driver. Can you let me know where to go to get this driver for my window10. This is all new to me Andrew Thank you

      Opps Andrew this is what happens when your in the field working and your mind is building your wing. I ment to say F405 not F705 and the error code I get on Inav is=Failed to open serial port.
      Thank you for your reply back so fast

    Hi. I'm hoping you can help. I managed the firmware flashing OK and after reconnecting the window that allowed me to select "airplane worked" OK. For a few seconds after that the display showed that the Heading, Pitch and Roll varied as I moved the flight controller and then suddenly all the angles dropped to zero. Since then the H,P & R angles have never shown anything other than zero even though I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the flight controller to iNav and even re-flashed the firmware again.

      Sounds like something has failed on the FC. Triple check you flashed it without the right firmware.. best of luck

    Hi Lee, on the configuration page there is a warning saying you should increase the i2c speed if your hardware allows. Ive not been able to find any info on this. How do you know what speed to change it to? I usually just bump it up a bit and haven't had a problem but it would be really nice to set it properly? Thanks.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always leave it at default. If you saw errors on the i2c counter (at the bottom of the screen) then you can reduce the speed. Correctly routed and managed cables in the model should mean you never have to worry about this. Hope that helps.

    No success, and have received a "failed to flush", response that was preceded by "failed to open serial port". While I have reinstalled Zadig and STM32 but don't appear as usb devices. I'll try ImpulseRC next. Maybe that's the answer. take care.

    I was trying to set up a Matek F405-Wing last night and it was not able to find/activate the serial port. My cable was a data-transfer capable micro USB cable. I tried booting the fc manually and restarting the configurator. I don't have internet at home yet and my computer is still running Windows 7. It is possible that I need to download drivers and stuff, or it is possible I need an internet connection to configure the flight controller. However, I have the latest FC firmware locally stored on my computer, so flashing should work offline. I have not been able to find anything about this issue because most people who are using something like iNAV do not live somewhere internet is unavailable. (Thankfully Elon Musk saved the day with Starlink, which will arrive tomorrow.) What do you think?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never tried to flash a flight controller from a PC that isn't connected to the internet so not sure. It is very possible that drivers are the problem as you should see the FC appear as a DFU device ready fro flashing if you power it on with the boot button pressed in.. Best of luck...

    Looks like a science ...
    first time I looked at matek website cause luckily I had bought matek 405 wing fc a year ago.
    I checked the wiring diagramm and inav mixer section and was asking myself if that what I saw could be right like those 6 gps cables for 12 pads on the board
    here is an example from matek website
    www.mateksys.com/?portfolio=f405-wing#tab-id-3

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cables are the GND, +5v, Tx and Rx for the GPS data and SCL/SDA pins for the compass. All have corresponding pads/pins on the flight controller shown in the wiring diagram. I don't use the compass in my wing builds as I don't fly in high winds (see my video on compasses that covers why). Happy flying!

It shows that the flash was successful but up top in the inav configurator it doesn't change and show the com port like yours did.
