Two small children and a ship's cook survive a shipwreck and find safety on an idyllic tropical island. Soon, however, the cook dies and the young boy and girl are left on their own. Days become years and Emmeline and Richard make a home for themselves surrounded by exotic creatures and nature's beauty. But will they ever see civilization again?

I love how in movies the woman walks around without any of the after effects of childbirth. If you had a baby you know what i mean!!
Yes, and to not know how to feed a baby. The painful grapefruits on your chest make that quite obvious.
I doubt most women would scream during childbirth, either.
That’s the biggest damn newborn I’ve ever seen.
LOL
I know it's normal to use older babies in movies/tv shows, because they can't just pluck a real newborn straight from the hospital, however that particular baby is old, even for a TV newborn 😂
A lady in Australia just delivered a 14 pounder recently. Everyone wonders how she managed it!
I hate how they sexualized Brooke Shields since she was just a kid. Pretty baby, the blue lagoon, endless love, the Jordache thing. Since before Dan Schneider Hollywood and the perverts behind so many shows and movies were really putting it in our faces and normalized it to the point we were blinded to it. Sad
This movie seemed like a fever dream when I watched it
Me and my friends watched this in probably 7th grade, no clue what it was but watched the whole thing and it’s been a talking point ever since. That was 25 years ago.
We can still never figure out how a tribe on the island never happened upon a beachside villa
they were from another Island only coming to this one for the ritual
I know this movie is considered a classic, but I still can't get over how the creators thought a story of cousins falling in love & having a kid would be a romantic story.
Are they?
It is based on a story by a 19th century Irish writer
The story is older than the movie. Not THAT long ago, cousins marrying, especially when no better options were available, wasn’t all that taboo. And the point of the story was to challenge “civilized” societies taboos in the first place, all the rules and laws and regulations that governed civilization no longer had any relevance to the two of them. It was designed that way.
Cousins still marry. It's actually not illegal to do so in many countries including western countries
@@LeahMorrison-g4ucousin's also married in wealthy families to keep the bloodline pure
It was a book long before it was a movie. Their guardian died, they had to survive on their own and had very little knowledge of the world, etc, as little kids. Even though this was/is a work of fiction - I'm sure at some point in history somethinf like thja could have happened. Remember: sex ed was not something that was discussed, ever, until about 70-80 years ago. And this story takes place in the early 1900s
There are actually many examples of sex ed throughout all of history. It’s true that there have been periods of time in which there was no sex ed or discussion of sex at all, but it’s important to remember that history is not linear. In one era there may be progress, and then things go backwards. In the Victorian era for instance, contrary to popular belief, there was sex ed
Everyone keeps comparing this movie to Flowers in the Attic. The Blue Lagoon and Flowers in the Attic are way different in many ways
In the movie Emmeline and Richard never know were babies come from or what pregnancy🤰looks like either after Emmeline gave birth.
Yep, this is why Sex Education is so important.
No duh they never knew is since other human or adult since 8.
This is why kids need to stay by parents because you never know what could happened you get stuck on an island getting your cousin pregnant
I've never read the book or seen the movie, but I think the issue was that they were shipwrecked and their guardian died. It's no one's fault, even if this is a work of fiction.
I didn’t think they were actually cousins thought her parents were friends with Richards parents and out of respect the kids called each of the other parents aunty and uncle but it was a good movie just watched it the other night
Fun fact: brooke shields is four teen in this film
Perfect
And the guy was 19 I think
I know there were 2 movies: The blue lagoon and Return to the blue lagoon.
But I think in the first one, the children were not related. Richard was found or adopted or something, if I remember correctly.
She's 17 but still
@@carriecompton6919He was 18.

You find cousins having a baby romantic?
@@green2666
Ya
It's not just no problem
But great
Its not a romance movie. The point of the movie isnt romance.
I ❤️ loved this movie it was beautiful the scenery the ocean!!!!
All'epoca mi sembrava un film stupido.. ma con gli anni l'ho rivalutato e lo vorrei rivedere ❤
They would have heard him run away.
It’s hard to listen when you’re to busy cutting people’s neck and drumming. 😝
I love baby's so much.
Do you now?…..
Dss war mein 2.kinofilm,leider nirgends mrhr zu finden ,auch nicht auf amazon
It's on some streaming channels, but you have to rent/buy it
Sees the baby breastfeeding- "Oh, why didn't I think of that?"
One of my faves
Sweet home Alabama
How did they know to tie the umbilical cord?
I came here to ask the same question!!😮
The umbilical cord falls off on its own in a few days to a week even if it wasn't tied. But I think most people would separate it from the baby? I mean...an umbilical cord attached to a decaying placenta just doesn't look right.
Don’t think too much into it. Just enjoy 😅
It falls off on its own eventually

The Blue Lagoon The Rules
I know the title of this video clip of this movie says Emmeline's baby, but it's Richard's baby too.
Why did GenX moms expect breastfeeding to be easy? Oh, right.
Me traumé con la escena del sacrificio
she was still a child to act giving birth in a movie she was only 14.
I love this movie
My FIRST rated R movie...I snuck in, lol.
Also, he was my first crush. 🥰
The people who have a problem with the cousins thing...did you have an issue with Gave of Thrones?
Yes
I have a problem with the 14 year old thing
The incest in game of thrones was weird, and so is this. Weirdo.
Yes, I did have a problem with that
Yes old hag
For me it took time to realise that they were reladed😮
Definitely a different time i see
When i have to keep correcting people that they are cousins not siblings and they look at me saying but their family and their having sex with each other! And all i say but at least their cousins not siblings, yeah its gross but hey at least their cousins.
Siblings, cousins they’re still related and it’s disgusting!
Flowers in the Attic

Cousins are about 12 percent relationship. Gross though.
Marriage between first cousins is legal in all European nations. In the U.S., 19 states and the District of Columbia allow it. A number of instances of marriage between cousins are recorded in the Bible. Worldwide, more than 10% of marriages are between first or second cousins. I think I've read it was commonly accepted in the U.S. until the late 19th c.
Aren't they related though?? Ewww. Was that first part human sacrifice? And that guys blonde fro kills me everytime.
Yeah, they're supposed to be cousins. They were shipwrecked and their guardian died when they were both still very young.
It was set in the victorian era, plus the fact they were children when paddy died so they had no adult to tell them it was wrong, so they basically never even mentally grew up
It was normal to marry each other cousins in the past, specially English history. IF man only had girls, he would want a nephew to marry one of his daughters to keep it in the family.
I can't understand the end of the movie they find them they said they are a sleep. And the 2 movie came out they are dead
The movie is based on a book. In the book they are sleeping when the old father find them, because it was how the author wanted to finish the story. The second movie is based on the second book, where Richard and Emmeline are actually death but the baby. I think the author simply did change his mind.
(I think the author did travel and see the places he described in the books. I have an old copy in my language of the first book and you can feel the love he had for that kind of nature. The love story between the two is not the main theme).
They changed the beginning of the sequel because Brooke Shields' mother would not let her do it. She did Sahara instead. Terrible movie.
@@tessdurberville711Why wouldn't her mom let her do the sequel? Considering she let her do the first one and Pretty Baby. Not to mention letting her pose nude for Playboy at just 10 years old!
Me waiting for the baby to poop in Brooke Shields’ hand cause he doesn’t have a diaper on
Weren't they brother and sisters in this movie? They had to of know this
I know there’s a lot of hate for this film, especially in these woke days, but I still love it 😄
Wow breast feeding is so easy - who knew
Lmao so many triggered people here as if the back button won't work for them and are forced to watch it💀
fr
What a ridiculous horrendous movie
So don't watch it
I saw this movie in high school, and it was just awful 😖 The scenery was beautiful, but the acting was absolutely a joke
I remember when it came out.
I didnt see it, the reviews were horrible. Acting was a joke, the only thing good about it was yes, the scenery.
They are supposed to act and talk childish since they never actually grew up mentally
Jean Simmons and Donald Houston were far better.
The breastfeeding moment. Then eating the berries.
All of you complaining about the movie it made 🤑 n Brook Shields honestly could care less.you poor thing .
