Just a quick note, and a big thanks to Saint Jahn for pointing this out to me! With Zada's ability, Soul's Fire actually will only let you target one of your creatures and not the entire team. You can still use this to have one of your pumped up creates deal a lot of damage to one target. I have updated the deck to include Run Amok, which will be very effective in the deck! Good question! Zara’s ability only works if the spell targets only Zada. Since Soul’s Fire would require that we target Zada and our opponent or another creature, it wouldn’t work

I saw Zada a year and a half ago and i started building my own. my current build is focused on tribal/goblins + tons of rituals and yeah, it is very explosive. Took notes on the kari sev's expertise, never saw that comming, thanks a lot!

Another fun mechanic for this is cards like Mob Rule and Insurrection, where you can steal opponents creatures for a turn. Not only does this give you potentially huge amount and huge power creatures to swing with, but your opponents have nothing to block with. It's absolutely a game ender and it's very likely to get one since you're drawing so many cards
Meekstone is a good addition. You can swing out with a burst of big monsters that will be small enough to untap on your turn, but your opponents will have to think harder before attacking.
While I have been testing this I usually keep zada out of the fight unless I am forced to attack with her or if it would be beneficial to do so. I can't seem to overcome the additional mana costs if zada ends up in the command zone again. When zada is sent to the command zone I need her back to do the mass combos and usually if I have to pay the extra two mana I am left with few options. So I guess if you are playing my style (keep the commander out of it) Meekstone is a good addition
Oh my god. When I first opened packs of BFZ and got Zada, this was exactly what I tried making!! Couldn’t make it work for lack of card draw and an overly heavy focus on goblins. I am SO happy to see someone else try to make Zada work!!!
I honestly love that you also give some budget cards to throw in if you feel like being a bit spicy, also a 15$ deck makes me want to buy to give it to family and friends who do not know how to play magic, I feel these hold more value then the current C18 granted no Commander product is focused but I think others would love to play Focus builds instead of more expensive jank.
Just wanted to put in the Purphoros, God of the Forge seems incredible in this deck as a secondary win con. Like if he's out and you can get 20 creatures to enter the battlefield you win, plus he can help push through extra damage with the +1/+0. Plus there's a good chance he'll be a creature and he's indestructible.
The Commander's Quarters yeah I didn’t realize he was so much, he just sits in my binder lol. I’d be interested in a final section of your vids that is a spotlight on a highly synergistic card that is well out of the budget (the idea being that someone might love the deck and end up wanting to pick it up eventually) so something that’s 15-30$ but makes the deck so much better. Hopefully it would be an interesting card and not just staples every time.
I've loved Zada since she was printed. I've built and refined my list and tested and tuned. I've built mine a storm combo style deck but there are so many ways to build this deck it's crazy. Sweet list.
@@TheCommandersQuarters and the beauty of it is... it's so cheap to build its unreal. Theres mana ramp, card draw, and it can be done on a budget. I also feel as though Zada is a great way to introduce newer plays to how the stack works and unique interactions between cards
KARI ZEVS EXPERTISE IS THE STONE COLD NUTTER BUTTERS IN THIS DECK. I'm so excited you included it. (Just saw it because I fell asleep before finishing your video)
A few things you missed in your upgrades list.... This deck obviously needs Purphoros. He's just insane. But considering he's around 20-25 that's literally the whole budget plus some. A card that maybe could have made into your main list is Brightstone Ritual. One red mana for an instant to add red to your mana pool for every goblin on the battlefield. Also, Treasonous Ogre should definitely be in here. He's literally won me games on turn 2 before. Another card I love in Zada is Aetherflux Resovoir. The card is just bonkers.
With a slight variation to this deck, I was able to draw my library on turn 5. I had 69 cards in my hand before losing the game just to prove a point. Like most other decks, this does have glaring weakness that I choose not to address. I like the "eggs in one basket" aspect of it. My nephew has since made an anti-zada deck. Oh the laughs. Thank you very much for the videos.
One of my favorite decks to run in the Kingdoms variant for commander. Think my record for this deck was 500+ damage in a single turn. Great deck tech. For budget includes, I'd recommend Dictate of Twin Gods. As a fun include, I'd recommend Indomitable Creativity. Hitting an Ogre Battledriver and a bunch of other creatures can be game ending. For non-budget, Tempt with Vengeance....because reasons.
Okay, I bought this deck out of my reluctance to believe that mono red could be as effective as you made this deck sound. I've only been able to do a few minor tweaks and alterations to the deck so far(hope you don't mind, I had to make the deck my own lol), but I took this deck to magic night with my group recently and I made 6 people SIMULTANEOUSLY scoop because I had drawn half my deck in one turn and was STILL drawing cards and getting mana to drop more cards. It felt like I was playing mono blue or SIMIC colors! Everybody told me to keep going even after they scooped just because they couldn't believe what they were seeing, and wanted to find out just how far I could go...it was NUTS. Way back in my novice beginner days, I played mono red and quickly dropped it cause every game would be the same; I'd start out strong but burn out REAL fast and not be able to hold on and rebuild after. I felt like the creatures were weaker compared to the other colors, so I switched to green. Later I'd flirt with red by using it as a secondary to another colors (Gruul, Izzet etc), but it would never be as anything more than utility. After seeing this commander and playing this deck, I maaay have to admit that I must have just been doing something wrong, because I've never felt like MORE of a magic player than when I was popping off with this deck. In short...I think you've turned me into a red player again, so yeah...keep it up. *Thumbs up* LOL!

Weird but crazy effective synergy I found is traitorous greed. You can target zada because of the way it’s worded and it would effectively untap and give haste to all your creatures but also gives you 2 mana of any color for each creature as well
My suggestion for an upgrade is library of leng. A 1 mana artifact that not only gives u infinite hand size but if u would discard cards, u can place them on top of the deck instead.

I have a couple expensive decks but making these means people who don’t have decks can play with us too. Side note I was trying to fit Pia and Kiran Nalaar In here too but can’t find room because I think this list looks good as is.
Yeah I couldn't find a spot for them either when I was brewing haha. Yeah Jhoira is one of my favorites! Probably one of the most powerful decks, if not the most powerful deck, out of the deck techs so far. And that's awesome! The more the merrier right?
Just bought for $22 in 2020 with the exception of basic lands and some of the cheap token makers like dragon fodder and krenko which I already had. My friend group likes to play super expensive decks that require mana fixing and are quite slow and some of us cant afford decks that even come close to competing with them once they get set up so I think I will use this to change our groups meta lol. Still loving the channel by the way Mitch keep it up.
I know this video is old I have been brewing a goblin tribal and I picked to be the commander, I knew the draw spells, and I really like the fists of flame combo with drawing a lot
I love the deck tech! My Zada is a little bit different, but I found couple cards I will add from your list. One card I would recommend for upgrade section is Past in Flames maybe even instead of ruby medallion. 80% I cast that card I won the game on that turn or next and sometimes it can help you get back from boardwipes because of all the spells that gives tokens. Btw just found out about channel recently and it has amazing content!
Hey Mitch, great work as always! Maybe a unusual question: My girlfriend an I are really into commander (just kitchen table/casual). My girlfriend's birthday is coming up in about a month and I was thinking about making a deck for her. This idea came up, when I saw Lena, Selfless Champion (her name is also Lena), however I have never built a commander deck on my own (we just use the precons) and I feel pretty lost. Can you give me some tips for cards or do maybe even a deck tech video for this commander?
what kind of budget are you looking at? the easiest way i can see it work is a bunch of small hate bears with some minor flicker/reanimator/anthems sub themes
That's a great idea for a birthday gift! I actually already have the next episodes planned out, but I can definitely give some thoughts on how I would go about trying to build her. So if you are just starting to build commander decks on your own I would recommend looking at EDHREC as a starting point. Unfortunately Lena only has 5 decks built on there so it's not a lot to go off of but it's definitely a place to start! Also, just look around at other TappedOut lists, I am sure there are a few around there. Scryfall is my favorite place to find cards, it's a very powerful card search engine! I actually haven't ever built with Lena, but off the top of my head I would probably look for cards that can flicker her and other creatures you control to create more creatures. So things like Eerie Interlude, Flickerwisp, and Felidar Guardian to flicker. And then creatures like Attended Knight and Captain of the Watch to create creature tokens. High value things like Rootborn Defenses and Oketra's Monument would probably be good too! Hope that helps you with a place to start!
Non-Budget Adds: I would suggest putting in Eldrazi Monument ($8) to beef up your creatures & pave the way for Chandra's Ignition ($0.50) as an explosive finisher if you can't punch through for the kill. It's a 3RR Sorcery: "Target creature you control deals damage equal to its power to each other creature and each opponent." Target Zada with Chandra's Ignition while your creatures are indestructible & prepare to drink those delectable tears. Example: Zada + 7 1/1 goblins or thopters with the Monument in play. Attack (the life gain deck at the table) & get some damage in. On second main cast Chandra's Ignition targeting Zada. All creatures together end up dealing 18 damage to each other creature & opponent by themselves without pumping them. If you pump them at all (Giant's Strength: +3/+1) congrats. You just won by dealing 42 total damage to all other creatures & opponents for 6 mana.
Blades of Velis Vel and Brightstone Ritual could be a massive mana dump in this deck and Scent of Cinder could be a finisher after a massive card draw!
Thank you for this deck tech. Definitely going to build this deck. Just found Fists of Flame also. Drawing a card for each creature you control and providing an increasingly massive attack boost on each of them at instant speed for 1R sounds pretty good; if you have drawn one card from your draw step already and you control Zada and four other creatures, you'll draw four cards and pump your team for a total of 2+3+4+5+6=20 damage. Gets even more disgusting if you've already cast say an Accelerate on the team. Think I''ll swap it for e.g. Telim Tor's Edict.
This is super similar to my list but i feel you missed a huge piecr of this dexk by not including Chandras Ignition. It can kill an entire board of creatures and opponents if you have a few buffed creatures and Zada out. I have dealt over 5.5k damage with it before. Also Izzet Chemister is an all star if you can play him then Karizev it gives you an instant recursion
So actually someone else recommended Chandra's Ignition, and then actually corrected themselves because unfortunately it doesn't work in the way intended. Once you cast it and it targets all of your creatures, those copies go on the stack. Once the first one goes off, it's probably going to kill your entire board which will fizzle all of the other spells on the stack since they won't have any targets. At least that's the way it was explained to me. Izzet Chemister is definitely an interesting consideration! Just wish he didn't have to tap with his first ability.
@@TheCommandersQuarters hmm yes i see what your saying. Im notnsure of the interaction and how the copies stack and resolve. Zadas ability triggers on cast so before Ignition resolves the copys have to be made and target. But on resolution now youve said that im guessing the first ignition if it destroys the other creatures the rest fizzle.

Love the content. Liked, subscribed, and ordered from CardKingdom. Some other budget changes could include the Cycling Lands. Sometimes you just need to dig that extra card deep. Sol Ring is the other obvious inclusion being only a couple bucks right now due to the recent reprint.
I play the deck a lot. Most of the time i don't win with attacking, becaus the boardstate don't alow it in my local meta. I use then to win Chandra's Ignition or Soul's Fire to deal direct the damage. Add Past in Flames
Unfortunately Chandra's Ignition and Soul's Fire don't actually work with Zada. Soul's doesn't work because of targeting and Chandra's will end up killing all of your creatures with just one of the copies, and the others will fizzle.
So I played this on Cockatrice and it is very explosive, if I played it a bit better it almost 1-shot the other three decks. Almost killed the second, probably could have if I put one extra attacker into it . Well two of them if not for a misplay. Then easily ramp back up to take the third out. Either way, this was a very impressive deck.

In theory.... If you equipped zada with helm of the host, would you be able to copy something infinitely? Target zada, it copies to each other creature including cloned, non legendary zada, which triggers and copies to each other creature, including the original zada, which copies... and so on? Or does the "when you cast... targeting only zada" clause stop this from happening?
Definitely a great suggestion! I am thinking about coming back around to decks once I get a little further along, maybe a "Reasonably Upgraded" playlist, where I take a previous deck I made and go through what upgrades I made and why. Say for a $50 budget total or something...still working on the concept and you will have to forgive the amount of time it might take me to get to this as just trying to pop out two episodes a week is a good amount of work too haha
@@TheCommandersQuarters no I completely understand didn't realize how far out this was. But having a budget and reasonable upgrade decklist would be subperb. Especially for those of us that want to buy a person their first deck without playing it and having more than 25 to spend. And not knowing really what to remove without hurting the focus. Love what you're doing and keep it up. I've found plenty of cards I didn't even know about that are helping my decks!
True on the spells, I hadn't actually gone through and counted them until after making this comment. Another few good options are sentinel tower, for more direct burn, skirk prospector for when the extra Mana is needed, goblin charbelcher for more directed damage and maybe helm of the host if you run combat celebrant for the potential infinite combat.
@@TheCommandersQuarters So I put this together, made a couple small changes, one of them being sentinel tower. During a test play, on turn 8, combo uninterrupted, I was able to direct 189 damage with sentinel tower and swing in with 14 pumped up guys for a grand total of 1664 damage... All of them had double strike and trample. YIKES!
Hi commander quarter, I would like to know one thing about the dualcaster mage combo, does the instant or sorcery need to be in the graveyard? I never use it so I am quite lost... Thanks
No problem! Actually it needs to be on the stack. So you cast the spell and then you need to cast Dualcaster Mage targeting that spell before it resolves

Yeah can’t wait to try it out. Was looking to include a second combo of Zealous Conscripts/Splinter Twin as another wincon combo but it might get too convoluted and off focus.
The Commander's Quarters agreed it would need testing. I think the deck works well overall. It’s very satisfying when you hit an Expertise and have an explosive turn.
Would cards like Fling and Thud that have you sacrifice a creature and deal damage equal to the sacrificed creature's power work with zada? Or does it have to say target creature?
With her I would probably build her with a ton of big spells that you cheat on the mana cost. Spells that wipe the board (including lands) would be particularly effective with her since you can just have cards suspended that come in after everyone’s board is decimated. You are also going to want ways to remove time counters, so something like Paradox Haze would be effective. Hope this helps as a place to start!
What's the easiest way to purchase the cards for these decks? I just got back into magic after 18 years and all my friends are playing commander and I'd like to build one of these budget decks
So in the show notes, there is a link to the decklist, head to the decklist and look towards the bottom right of the page - there should be an orange button that has a shopping cart icon and says "TCGPlayer" (ignore the price next to it, that's just an estimate from TappedOut, which for some reason is always high). Click on that button and it should take you to mass entry on TCGPlayer. Hit the green button that says "Add to Cart", and then hit the blue "Optimize Your Cart!" button on the next screen. They will give you 3 carts to choose from. If you want the cheapest price possible, you can optimize it with Heavily Played and Damaged cards. Under "Preferences" click off for "Match Printing", and then under "Show Advanced Options", check the boxes for "Heavily Played" and "Damaged", and then click on "Optimize Again". Pick the cheapest of the 3 options they give you. Sorry for the lengthy explanation, just wanted to make sure you knew your options! Hope this helps and welcome back to magic!

That's a good point. So a few things with that, it's important to get creatures out there first before Zada, so that when we play Zada we are set up to draw a lot of cards. This deck can go from zero to 100 very quickly with a ritual in hand. If there is a lot of targeted removal in your meta though, I recommend running some cards that will keep Zada safe.
Try doing the opposite of these super budget decks, you pick a commander and build a deck around him and also you have a crazy high budget and you can’t go below your budget of something stupid high like 20,000 dollars. Make as many things as possible be masterpieces and foil out everything and go for all guru lands.
Definitely something I would like to do in the future! One of my friends is a videographer, and when his schedule clears up a bit he is going to help me make some gameplay videos. Not going to rush it though, want to make sure they are up to the level of quality I want for the channel.
My friend built me something extremely similar to this deck. I think he replaced the just replaced the manageeks. It's fast and strong. I once played Impact Tremors and used Krenko's Command, Combat Celerant, and Kari Zev's Expertise to play close to 200 goblin tokens in one turn.
I played against someone who ran a Zadra deck. He played krenko mob boss, got 30 goblins, drew 30 cards, and lost to a blue green counters deck. Scared the ever loving shit out of everyone at the table tho.
as soon as you mentioned the red cantrips I got really hype for this deck mass card draw in red? 5 cent cards that would otherwise be useless in any other deck? this is why I love the commander format
So I was looking at the card [Seize the Day] in this deck, and I noticed something. Yes, this card gives you an extra combat step for each creature you control, but it only untaps all your creatures just the once. I was thinking you might want to add [Angel's Trumpet] to the deck for the vigilance. This would allow for a MASSIVELY explosive turn - play the trumpet, play Seize the Day, and go off! [Oketra's Monument] and [Hovermyr] are two other interesting vigilance ideas for this deck.
I can only imagine that combo working once, but I think that's all you'd need. Attack with everything, let them all tap, then Seize the Day, then Angel's Trumpet, then attack again multiplying for each creature you control, game win. Ridiculous.

I can do you one better, borborimos the enraged (cost around 75 cents) and 99 basic lands. The ultimate budget deck, the cheapest deck to pilot and still be able to jank out a win.
I'm so thankful for this because I need to create commander decks for cheap because the 2018 ones are crap to me except Aminatou and I was wanting to have more than one EDH deck to play. BTW you've just gained a fan and a subscriber!
@Saint Jahn You'll kill Zada, but you can choose different modes and targets for each copy, letting you nuke someone's board for the cost of your own Zada.
Love it. I had a similar Zada deck but was missing a few of the key parts. My friends had no idea what to do when I played it the first few times. I would really enjoy seeing a Zedruu Deck sometime. All hail the great golden goat.
I've been looking forward to build zada as well. Rn, i think storm kiln artist and fists of flame are the best cards for the deck. I cant believe ruby medallion only costs like $5 5 years ago. I should have been into magic earlier lol
Yep, just thought the same thing. I would need two, one each for my Krenko and Zada deck. But damn too expensive. A very budget alternative is Helm of Awakening. It makes every spell cost 1 less colorless mana, but that also counts for your opponents. But I can narrow down on which turn I could probably explode, I play it the Helm at the right turn and then win the game.

Oh my god. When I first opened packs of BFZ and got Zada, this was exactly what I tried making!! Couldn’t make it work for lack of card draw and an overly heavy focus on goblins. I am SO happy to see someone else try to make Zada work!!!

I honestly love that you also give some budget cards to throw in if you feel like being a bit spicy, also a 15$ deck makes me want to buy to give it to family and friends who do not know how to play magic, I feel these hold more value then the current C18 granted no Commander product is focused but I think others would love to play Focus builds instead of more expensive jank.

Just wanted to put in the Purphoros, God of the Forge seems incredible in this deck as a secondary win con. Like if he's out and you can get 20 creatures to enter the battlefield you win, plus he can help push through extra damage with the +1/+0. Plus there's a good chance he'll be a creature and he's indestructible.
Absolutely he is! Unfortunately he is also well out of the reasonable upgrades price range haha, but still a sweet card!
The Commander's Quarters yeah I didn’t realize he was so much, he just sits in my binder lol. I’d be interested in a final section of your vids that is a spotlight on a highly synergistic card that is well out of the budget (the idea being that someone might love the deck and end up wanting to pick it up eventually) so something that’s 15-30$ but makes the deck so much better. Hopefully it would be an interesting card and not just staples every time.

I've loved Zada since she was printed. I've built and refined my list and tested and tuned. I've built mine a storm combo style deck but there are so many ways to build this deck it's crazy. Sweet list.

@@TheCommandersQuarters and the beauty of it is... it's so cheap to build its unreal. Theres mana ramp, card draw, and it can be done on a budget. I also feel as though Zada is a great way to introduce newer plays to how the stack works and unique interactions between cards

A few things you missed in your upgrades list....
This deck obviously needs Purphoros. He's just insane. But considering he's around 20-25 that's literally the whole budget plus some. A card that maybe could have made into your main list is Brightstone Ritual. One red mana for an instant to add red to your mana pool for every goblin on the battlefield. Also, Treasonous Ogre should definitely be in here. He's literally won me games on turn 2 before. Another card I love in Zada is Aetherflux Resovoir. The card is just bonkers.

With a slight variation to this deck, I was able to draw my library on turn 5. I had 69 cards in my hand before losing the game just to prove a point. Like most other decks, this does have glaring weakness that I choose not to address. I like the "eggs in one basket" aspect of it. My nephew has since made an anti-zada deck. Oh the laughs. Thank you very much for the videos.
One of my favorite decks to run in the Kingdoms variant for commander. Think my record for this deck was 500+ damage in a single turn. Great deck tech.
For budget includes, I'd recommend Dictate of Twin Gods. As a fun include, I'd recommend Indomitable Creativity. Hitting an Ogre Battledriver and a bunch of other creatures can be game ending. For non-budget, Tempt with Vengeance....because reasons.

Mirrorwing Dragon serves as a 2nd Zada basically. Flying also makes it a little more likely to get through blockers.
Okay, I bought this deck out of my reluctance to believe that mono red could be as effective as you made this deck sound. I've only been able to do a few minor tweaks and alterations to the deck so far(hope you don't mind, I had to make the deck my own lol), but I took this deck to magic night with my group recently and I made 6 people SIMULTANEOUSLY scoop because I had drawn half my deck in one turn and was STILL drawing cards and getting mana to drop more cards. It felt like I was playing mono blue or SIMIC colors! Everybody told me to keep going even after they scooped just because they couldn't believe what they were seeing, and wanted to find out just how far I could go...it was NUTS.
Way back in my novice beginner days, I played mono red and quickly dropped it cause every game would be the same; I'd start out strong but burn out REAL fast and not be able to hold on and rebuild after. I felt like the creatures were weaker compared to the other colors, so I switched to green. Later I'd flirt with red by using it as a secondary to another colors (Gruul, Izzet etc), but it would never be as anything more than utility.
After seeing this commander and playing this deck, I maaay have to admit that I must have just been doing something wrong, because I've never felt like MORE of a magic player than when I was popping off with this deck.
In short...I think you've turned me into a red player again, so yeah...keep it up. *Thumbs up* LOL!
Love the $15 budget. Would love to see more of these.

Weird but crazy effective synergy I found is traitorous greed.
You can target zada because of the way it’s worded and it would effectively untap and give haste to all your creatures but also gives you 2 mana of any color for each creature as well

My suggestion for an upgrade is library of leng. A 1 mana artifact that not only gives u infinite hand size but if u would discard cards, u can place them on top of the deck instead.

Yeah Jhoira is one of my favorites! Probably one of the most powerful decks, if not the most powerful deck, out of the deck techs so far.

Just bought for $22 in 2020 with the exception of basic lands and some of the cheap token makers like dragon fodder and krenko which I already had. My friend group likes to play super expensive decks that require mana fixing and are quite slow and some of us cant afford decks that even come close to competing with them once they get set up so I think I will use this to change our groups meta lol. Still loving the channel by the way Mitch keep it up.
This deck looks super fun. I'm pretty noobish still but the combos here seem simple enough for me to get a hold of.

I know this video is old I have been brewing a goblin tribal and I picked to be the commander, I knew the draw spells, and I really like the fists of flame combo with drawing a lot
I love the deck tech! My Zada is a little bit different, but I found couple cards I will add from your list. One card I would recommend for upgrade section is Past in Flames maybe even instead of ruby medallion. 80% I cast that card I won the game on that turn or next and sometimes it can help you get back from boardwipes because of all the spells that gives tokens.

My girlfriend an I are really into commander (just kitchen table/casual). My girlfriend's birthday is coming up in about a month and I was thinking about making a deck for her. This idea came up, when I saw Lena, Selfless Champion (her name is also Lena), however I have never built a commander deck on my own (we just use the precons) and I feel pretty lost.
Can you give me some tips for cards or do maybe even a deck tech video for this commander?
what kind of budget are you looking at? the easiest way i can see it work is a bunch of small hate bears with some minor flicker/reanimator/anthems sub themes
Budget (and power level) should be about equal to the precons
That's a great idea for a birthday gift! I actually already have the next episodes planned out, but I can definitely give some thoughts on how I would go about trying to build her.
So if you are just starting to build commander decks on your own I would recommend looking at EDHREC as a starting point. Unfortunately Lena only has 5 decks built on there so it's not a lot to go off of but it's definitely a place to start! Also, just look around at other TappedOut lists, I am sure there are a few around there. Scryfall is my favorite place to find cards, it's a very powerful card search engine!
I actually haven't ever built with Lena, but off the top of my head I would probably look for cards that can flicker her and other creatures you control to create more creatures. So things like Eerie Interlude, Flickerwisp, and Felidar Guardian to flicker. And then creatures like Attended Knight and Captain of the Watch to create creature tokens. High value things like Rootborn Defenses and Oketra's Monument would probably be good too!

Non-Budget Adds: I would suggest putting in Eldrazi Monument ($8) to beef up your creatures & pave the way for Chandra's Ignition ($0.50) as an explosive finisher if you can't punch through for the kill. It's a 3RR Sorcery: "Target creature you control deals damage equal to its power to each other creature and each opponent." Target Zada with Chandra's Ignition while your creatures are indestructible & prepare to drink those delectable tears.
Example: Zada + 7 1/1 goblins or thopters with the Monument in play.
Attack (the life gain deck at the table) & get some damage in.
On second main cast Chandra's Ignition targeting Zada.
All creatures together end up dealing 18 damage to each other creature & opponent by themselves without pumping them.
If you pump them at all (Giant's Strength: +3/+1) congrats.
You just won by dealing 42 total damage to all other creatures & opponents for 6 mana.
Blades of Velis Vel and Brightstone Ritual could be a massive mana dump in this deck and Scent of Cinder could be a finisher after a massive card draw!

Thank you for this deck tech. Definitely going to build this deck. Just found Fists of Flame also. Drawing a card for each creature you control and providing an increasingly massive attack boost on each of them at instant speed for 1R sounds pretty good; if you have drawn one card from your draw step already and you control Zada and four other creatures, you'll draw four cards and pump your team for a total of 2+3+4+5+6=20 damage. Gets even more disgusting if you've already cast say an Accelerate on the team. Think I''ll swap it for e.g. Telim Tor's Edict.

This is super similar to my list but i feel you missed a huge piecr of this dexk by not including Chandras Ignition. It can kill an entire board of creatures and opponents if you have a few buffed creatures and Zada out. I have dealt over 5.5k damage with it before.
Also Izzet Chemister is an all star if you can play him then Karizev it gives you an instant recursion
So actually someone else recommended Chandra's Ignition, and then actually corrected themselves because unfortunately it doesn't work in the way intended. Once you cast it and it targets all of your creatures, those copies go on the stack. Once the first one goes off, it's probably going to kill your entire board which will fizzle all of the other spells on the stack since they won't have any targets. At least that's the way it was explained to me.
Izzet Chemister is definitely an interesting consideration! Just wish he didn't have to tap with his first ability.
@@TheCommandersQuarters hmm yes i see what your saying. Im notnsure of the interaction and how the copies stack and resolve. Zadas ability triggers on cast so before Ignition resolves the copys have to be made and target. But on resolution now youve said that im guessing the first ignition if it destroys the other creatures the rest fizzle.
Yeah it's unfortunate because it would be a pretty sweet way to finish the game haha

Some other budget changes could include the Cycling Lands. Sometimes you just need to dig that extra card deep. Sol Ring is the other obvious inclusion being only a couple bucks right now due to the recent reprint.

I play the deck a lot. Most of the time i don't win with attacking, becaus the boardstate don't alow it in my local meta. I use then to win Chandra's Ignition or Soul's Fire to deal direct the damage. Add Past in Flames
Unfortunately Chandra's Ignition and Soul's Fire don't actually work with Zada. Soul's doesn't work because of targeting and Chandra's will end up killing all of your creatures with just one of the copies, and the others will fizzle.

Clamsy1992 from what others have been saying, and my current understanding, is that since it targets twice it doesn't work.
I think hanweir battement would be a nice land card in this deck to add with hanweir Garrison
So I played this on Cockatrice and it is very explosive, if I played it a bit better it almost 1-shot the other three decks. Almost killed the second, probably could have if I put one extra attacker into it . Well two of them if not for a misplay. Then easily ramp back up to take the third out. Either way, this was a very impressive deck.

In theory.... If you equipped zada with helm of the host, would you be able to copy something infinitely? Target zada, it copies to each other creature including cloned, non legendary zada, which triggers and copies to each other creature, including the original zada, which copies... and so on?
Or does the "when you cast... targeting only zada" clause stop this from happening?
Your last statement is correct, since it is copied and not cast that wouldn't work. Would get really crazy if it did though haha

Definitely a great suggestion! I am thinking about coming back around to decks once I get a little further along, maybe a "Reasonably Upgraded" playlist, where I take a previous deck I made and go through what upgrades I made and why. Say for a $50 budget total or something...still working on the concept and you will have to forgive the amount of time it might take me to get to this as just trying to pop out two episodes a week is a good amount of work too haha
@@TheCommandersQuarters no I completely understand didn't realize how far out this was. But having a budget and reasonable upgrade decklist would be subperb. Especially for those of us that want to buy a person their first deck without playing it and having more than 25 to spend. And not knowing really what to remove without hurting the focus. Love what you're doing and keep it up. I've found plenty of cards I didn't even know about that are helping my decks!

Not sure if anyone else has said it or not, but why not run archetype of aggression to ensure those huge wide swings kill someone?
A good consideration! In my opinion he's too slow for this deck, and you have plenty of spells that give trample.
True on the spells, I hadn't actually gone through and counted them until after making this comment. Another few good options are sentinel tower, for more direct burn, skirk prospector for when the extra Mana is needed, goblin charbelcher for more directed damage and maybe helm of the host if you run combat celebrant for the potential infinite combat.
Also! Would you consider making a budget chromium the mutable list? Excluding chromium in the cost, of course, as he's still 10$ alone.
@@TheCommandersQuarters So I put this together, made a couple small changes, one of them being sentinel tower. During a test play, on turn 8, combo uninterrupted, I was able to direct 189 damage with sentinel tower and swing in with 14 pumped up guys for a grand total of 1664 damage... All of them had double strike and trample. YIKES!

No problem! Actually it needs to be on the stack. So you cast the spell and then you need to cast Dualcaster Mage targeting that spell before it resolves

The Commander's Quarters agreed it would need testing. I think the deck works well overall. It’s very satisfying when you hit an Expertise and have an explosive turn.

With her I would probably build her with a ton of big spells that you cheat on the mana cost. Spells that wipe the board (including lands) would be particularly effective with her since you can just have cards suspended that come in after everyone’s board is decimated. You are also going to want ways to remove time counters, so something like Paradox Haze would be effective. Hope this helps as a place to start!

What's the easiest way to purchase the cards for these decks? I just got back into magic after 18 years and all my friends are playing commander and I'd like to build one of these budget decks
So in the show notes, there is a link to the decklist, head to the decklist and look towards the bottom right of the page - there should be an orange button that has a shopping cart icon and says "TCGPlayer" (ignore the price next to it, that's just an estimate from TappedOut, which for some reason is always high).
Click on that button and it should take you to mass entry on TCGPlayer. Hit the green button that says "Add to Cart", and then hit the blue "Optimize Your Cart!" button on the next screen. They will give you 3 carts to choose from.
If you want the cheapest price possible, you can optimize it with Heavily Played and Damaged cards. Under "Preferences" click off for "Match Printing", and then under "Show Advanced Options", check the boxes for "Heavily Played" and "Damaged", and then click on "Optimize Again". Pick the cheapest of the 3 options they give you.
Sorry for the lengthy explanation, just wanted to make sure you knew your options! Hope this helps and welcome back to magic!

Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and Blood Moon would be great for this deck but they're both about $20. Not great for the budget aspect.

What about keeping zada on the battlefield. It seems like this deck would just fall apart if we can't keep her alive.
That's a good point. So a few things with that, it's important to get creatures out there first before Zada, so that when we play Zada we are set up to draw a lot of cards. This deck can go from zero to 100 very quickly with a ritual in hand. If there is a lot of targeted removal in your meta though, I recommend running some cards that will keep Zada safe.
Try doing the opposite of these super budget decks, you pick a commander and build a deck around him and also you have a crazy high budget and you can’t go below your budget of something stupid high like 20,000 dollars. Make as many things as possible be masterpieces and foil out everything and go for all guru lands.

My friend built me something extremely similar to this deck. I think he replaced the just replaced the manageeks. It's fast and strong. I once played Impact Tremors and used Krenko's Command, Combat Celerant, and Kari Zev's Expertise to play close to 200 goblin tokens in one turn.
I played against someone who ran a Zadra deck. He played krenko mob boss, got 30 goblins, drew 30 cards, and lost to a blue green counters deck. Scared the ever loving shit out of everyone at the table tho.

100% agree! Nearly all of these cards are useless in other formats, but they really shine in commander!
So I was looking at the card [Seize the Day] in this deck, and I noticed something. Yes, this card gives you an extra combat step for each creature you control, but it only untaps all your creatures just the once. I was thinking you might want to add [Angel's Trumpet] to the deck for the vigilance. This would allow for a MASSIVELY explosive turn - play the trumpet, play Seize the Day, and go off! [Oketra's Monument] and [Hovermyr] are two other interesting vigilance ideas for this deck.
Definitely an interesting card to consider for the deck!
I can only imagine that combo working once, but I think that's all you'd need. Attack with everything, let them all tap, then Seize the Day, then Angel's Trumpet, then attack again multiplying for each creature you control, game win. Ridiculous.

I can do you one better, borborimos the enraged (cost around 75 cents) and 99 basic lands. The ultimate budget deck, the cheapest deck to pilot and still be able to jank out a win.

unfortunately Soul's Fire doesnt work with Zada, because Zada's effect only works if the spell targets only him
But that spell only target one creature. Am I missing something?

You'll kill Zada, but you can choose different modes and targets for each copy, letting you nuke someone's board for the cost of your own Zada.

Saint Jahn so it has to only say target creature deals damage to it's self and the opponent? I think that might be the wording for it
Love it. I had a similar Zada deck but was missing a few of the key parts. My friends had no idea what to do when I played it the first few times.

I've been looking forward to build zada as well. Rn, i think storm kiln artist and fists of flame are the best cards for the deck. I cant believe ruby medallion only costs like $5 5 years ago. I should have been into magic earlier lol

Yep, just thought the same thing. I would need two, one each for my Krenko and Zada deck. But damn too expensive. A very budget alternative is Helm of Awakening. It makes every spell cost 1 less colorless mana, but that also counts for your opponents. But I can narrow down on which turn I could probably explode, I play it the Helm at the right turn and then win the game.
