Love your content my friend- I really appreciate it. I’m in the process of getting a junk yard find 1984 xjs running again and you have been amazingly helpful. Top notch! Thank you sir! 🫡
Oh I just came across your channel! Love it. Where is your shop located? I'd love to bring my car to you. I have an extra Jess that needs a few things. Just go with any tire you want. Originally they came with a ZR rated tire which are super expensive and hard to find. But who is doing 150 mile an hour in these cars. I prefer the Indy fire hawks but there's lots of great tires if you just go with an R rated instead of ZR rated.
On mine, I discovered 2 issues, firstly the oil pressure sensor was broken and the heater valve was slightly leaking from the bottom; occasionally I would get the oil lamp warning light on the dash even though I knew it was fresh oil and topped up correctly. When the engine was hot a very small spray of oil would emit from where the wire spade connector fitted onto the sensor, this combined with a small amount of coolant leaking from the base of the heater valve equated to the splodgy mess under the car. Hope this helps!
Regarding the 15 inch wheels: I think the correct tire size is actually 215/70/VR15. And there aren't many high quality options: Pirelli P5 (J), Dunlop Sport Cassic, Michelin XWX. And they are very pricey ... might be an option to look into a set of 16 inch lattice wheels (not easy to find, but more tires available). Thanks for the interesting series!
With a british car, you will always have a well lubricated garage floor :) You'll probably have to clean everything and see where the oil comes from and then address the issues one by one.
I just bought a Series 3 XJ V12 from Canada. Man these V12 will put hair on your chest and test your mechanical mettle with such a tight engine bay.
