This was a great first single. It really brings back the classic Staind sounds with the guitar peddle and Aaron's voice. The growling isn't new. He's been doing it since the beginning. If you want to start at the beginning: their first single and arguably biggest song is Mudshovel. I personally love all of the Dysfunction album but some notable ones to listen to would be Just Go, Crawl, and Spleen. Of course Staind has many sounds, Aaron has great vocals and capitalizes on that with some slower songs which I also thoroughly enjoy. Break the Cycle is another start to finish album for me but songs like Safe Place, For You, and Waste will always be some of my favorites.
This is classic Staind. Most people have only heard their hits, which are pretty vanilla. Most of their music is heavy like this, and if you see them live, they’re even heavier.
Right? This like them old Tormented and dysfunction days, classic staind. Staind back in the day went hard and honestly I don't feel they get enough credit for their sound.
My favorite band! They started out their first 2 albums heavy with a few softer songs mixed in. Then it became more of an even mix. They do both incredibly well with Aaron's deep lyrics and emotion in his voice. Here are some heavier songs that you should check out: "Cycle of Hurting" (newest single) "King of all Excuses" (personal fav) "Waste" (about a fan who killed himself)
As some other have pointed out, you should check out their older stuff. There first three albums (first two if you don't count the ep they released before their first two national albums) were legitimate alternative metal. Dysfunction is a masterpiece from start to finish. Home, Raw, A Flat... hell, about every song on that album is great. they went pretty soft for a couple albums after that then came back 2012-ish with the self titled album and Aaron said they wanted to get back to their roots and put out a heavy album. That ones pretty great from start to finish as well.
Honestly to hear new music from Staind is incredibly exciting. Break The Cycle is my absolute favorite album start to finish, Chapter V has a couple powerful ballads in Right Here and Everything Changes. 14 Shades Of Grey features some great songs as well including Price To Play, How About You, Reality you really cant go wrong with this band 🙂
I would categorize them as post grunge/Nu Metal. If you want to get a feeling of what Staind is I highly recommend their 2019 live album It's Been A While: Live from Foxwoods. Great reaction video!
This song is awesome! Staind is one of those timeless bands for me. Was one of the very first bands that gave me my first taste of rock music, and never looked back. If you’re down for other songs by them I’d recommend “for you”, “Right here”, “Everything changes”, 🤙🏻
I’m a bit of a sucker for the “mainstream” rock. Grew up listening to Staind, Creed, Mudvayne, Korn… Limp Bizkit 😆 This was a good single for Staind. I’m going to check out the album now. Good reaction and subscribed!
Besides all the classics that everyone talks about (Mudshovel, For You, Outside, It's Been A While, Right Here, So Far Away, etc.) For Staind I recommend: -Paper Wings -Failing -Schizophrenic Conversations -King of All Excuses -Blow Away -Epiphany -Falling -How About You -The Bottom And if you're brave enough to go there, there's also the "Tormented" album.
The big 4 to come out of the nu metal era in no order are -Linkin Park -Limp Bizkit -Korn -Staind Staind always outlasted all those bands to me because they NEVER sold out or released a bad album.
If you want some good screamy songs I’d go spleen or raw. (Not 100% screamy) and If you want more “soft tracks” I’d go epiphany or something to remind you. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
I fell out of love with Aaron over the years but this new album is definitely a return to form that I was not expecting. I didn’t have high hopes, so that helped, but it blew my expectations out of the water simply because they didn’t just rehash their old sound; they took what has always worked for them and modernized it in a way that felt fresh AND vintage all at the same time. Also, they’ve always had very generic radio hits (aside from their 2nd album, dysfunction), so it’s not a shock you never latched on. I latched on after I heard their first self released album, Tormented, which still my favorite album of theirs. Highly recommend it if you can find it. I have a copy I scooped a loooong time ago when they re-released it on their website for a limited time. Incredibly vulnerable album that is cathartic to listen to.
Check out mudshovel from the 90s it’s not new Aaron just leaned softer and softer for 16 years until they released the self titled 2011 album now they are back imo
Fred Durst was actually the one, who brought Staind up. There were smaller before that and he brought them after, puddle of mudd, think. I think Staind belongs to new metal, but I'm not sure. I was listening to limp bizkit, that's why I know about Staind. But I like this song too.

Thank you for sharing :) my curiosity has been peaked.
every album is start to finish for me - if for nothing else the deep lyrics
Some of the best Staind ever period.

The 2011 self titled album was ridiculously heavy. Listen to Eyes Wide Open and Paper Wings

I love this song like this gave me the chills like I have a terrible nightmare I looked at myself in the mirror Aaron has a great voice
You should hear the 90s 2000s Staind. Dysfunction and Tormented albums were raw first statement Aaron. All of what he is.
I would categorize them as post grunge/Nu Metal. If you want to get a feeling of what Staind is I highly recommend their 2019 live album It's Been A While: Live from Foxwoods. Great reaction video!
I'll look into that. Thank you for watching!!
Staind just put out a new song called "Here and now"... I highly recommend checking out the music video for it

The first album had a lot of aaron growling, this calls back to it big time
Besides all the classics that everyone talks about (Mudshovel, For You, Outside, It's Been A While, Right Here, So Far Away, etc.)
For Staind I recommend:
-Paper Wings
-Failing
-Schizophrenic Conversations
-King of All Excuses
-Blow Away
-Epiphany
-Falling
-How About You
-The Bottom
And if you're brave enough to go there, there's also the "Tormented" album.
Thats old original staind, they’re back and its amazing
The big 4 to come out of the nu metal era in no order are
-Linkin Park
-Limp Bizkit
-Korn
-Staind
Staind always outlasted all those bands to me because they NEVER sold out or released a bad album.
They're not mentioned very often but they have ALWAYS charted on Billboard! Every single album!
Deftones
If you want some good screamy songs I’d go spleen or raw. (Not 100% screamy) and If you want more “soft tracks” I’d go epiphany or something to remind you. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
You’ve never heard of Staind before?

Great reaction

Really NEED to check out the video for "here & now".
Staind is 1 of my 2 favorite metal band

Staind has always been awesome. Aaron Lewis sound just as great in person.
Yeah this tracks more of a return to formula for them they were always extremely dark grungey commentary on super hard to talk about issues.
Fred Durst was actually the one, who brought Staind up. There were smaller before that and he brought them after, puddle of mudd, think.
I think Staind belongs to new metal, but I'm not sure. I was listening to limp bizkit, that's why I know about Staind. But I like this song too.
Oooh! Did not know all that. Thank you so much for sharing!

You surely don't know much about Aaron Lewis, he is a lyrical genius.
Screaming is all-over the records. Definitely not new
She's not even blind
How old are you that you didn't know who Staind was as a whole jk
You want find a better lyricist.
