I loved this, laughed many times. The points system is genius and makes so much sense. Western Lane as the most probable winner for the reasons you say.
Loved hearing your thoughts on the SL. The books I read from the Booker this year generally made grating my eyeballs seem attractive, so I ended up not reading any of the short list. So glad I found your channel through Charlotte’s video 😄
the video i've been waiting for so i don't waste my time with a list of books in junction with my never-ending tbr. will be adding Western Lane for my reading list for next year! thank you for your service k!ng
I absolutely think that every word in Western Lane was carefully thought out, and the effect intended. That book is way more vibe than plot, and I am perfectly ok with that. I missed the final sentence being a repeat of a previous sentence though. Trying to find it. Is it exactly the same?
Western Lane was the only five star book on the entire long list for me, so I certainly hope it wins. I suspect that Paul Harding will win because I think the chair of the panel will be influential. I wasn't keen on that book myself, not for the 'own voices' or apple cultivation reasons that people have specified, but just because I found his prose style rather tortured. I am midway through Paul Lynch's book at the moment and I agree with you about his prose style which is ridiculously attention seeking and really detracts from the book. Also, it is really curious how the national party in that book are totally vanilla authoritarians they don't seem to actually stand for anything at all except being authoritarian. This makes the book seem rather abstract and disconnected from reality.

The Bee Sting feels like a safe Booker choice, but I believe Study for Obedience and This Other Eden are going to be potential spoilers
You convinced me... Western Lane makes sense as the winner.

Excellent prediction. Terrible outcome.
