That's Japan for you. A large part of their entire culture is centered around the idea that victims are to blame for being victims in the first place and that their problems are only inconveniencing other people, especially if they're just some woman, while all the men are instantly sympathetic to other dirty men, and biased towards the male side, whenever things like stalking or assault is concerned. Also Japan's xenophobia compounds this particular instance too. She's technically a foreigner, so they take this attitude that she chose to come here and indulge in a hobby as a tourist, therefore they feel like whatever happens to her is her own business, and they couldn't care less since what happens to a foreigner, the way they see it, isn't their problem. Japanese nationalist pride wants to stick up for men over women, and stick up for their own citizens over anyone who isn't a citizen, and unfortunately she falls into both. Even if she had been strangled or stabbed in this PUBLIC place in front of everyone, they would have just thrown their hands up and said "Well, we did all WE could. Too bad."

    Consider the following:
In Japan, there was a case where a woman was sexually violated by a man, and she found the courage to publicly accuse him of such. This lead to him suing her for public defamation of his character, because it wasn't concretely proven it happened. The case went ahead, and the courts ruled in favor of the man, because of the lack of solid proof, beyond her own testimony
Additionally, crimes like stalking and so on are incredibly difficult to prove in many countries because authorities cannot legally act until something of consequence comes to pass, which has lead to victims suffering dire, if not fatal acts from the preparator. Even now, in countries like the US, a man like Keeki's stalker would not face justice by the hands of the law, because of the way the system is setup, nevermind a country with laws absurdly stacked in favor of those with power and influence, like Japan.
For Rick to face justice, his punishment must be dealt to him by forces beyond the law, least this be another tragedy that goes forgotten by public, once it loses that viral heat in a few weeks, or a month

※I looked at the Kanagawa Prefectural Police website. It may be wrong.
Japan's anti-stalking law works in the following steps:
①: Consult the police about the stalking
②: The police confirm the illegal activity
③: No contact order (1 year)
④: Arrest if the order is violated
First she has to give evidence of the stalker to the police.
So, in this case, arrest will be difficult regardless of whether the person is a foreigner or not.

10 years and nothing happened to the dude. That should give you enough idea how little they'd care. JP law applies to their own, not foreigners. And even then, their prosecution rate is only applicable if you have the guaranteed evidence that the dude is guilty. The assault that happened to her will be shrugged. Her only saving grace is if her employers intervene. Which in this case is quite difficult since Keekihime isn't employed by Cover, Kiara is. They are separate entities by legal and contract case. By defending Keekihime, they are basically admitting that she is Kiara. I'm not sure how far their NDA is so we can only hope that someone in Cover actually does try to find a way.

    • @imLumineux
      @imLumineux 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

Unfortunately I don't think they can really do anything to protect her legally at least at the current moment because of the things you've mentioned since it may break NDA, mainly because he stalked as "keekihime", not as her other name. It'd be a different story if "Kiara" was the one being stalked. I think the only way Cover could intervene is if this P.o.S threatened her by breaking NDA and revealing who she is, name, where she lives, etc..
You can compare this to Mel's case when she had a stalker, it was a staff member iirc, and they had stalked her as "mel", not as her other name.
I'm sure Cover can at least put her into contact with the right people.

When someone keeps up their obsessive behaviour but they're unacknowledged by the victim because she blocked his stuff ages ago, and the stalker doesn't have any opportunities to act, it's hard to know it's still continuing. She explained how she'd forgotten about him completely and it didn't even occur to her that he'd be there.
Long-term obsessions like this aren't that publicly visible, and are a lot harder to identify or establish as something to get assistance with, but especially when it's broken by international borders.
