Lots of feeling towards it tho, it's my grandad's, and it has less miles on it than just about any used car you could find lol. I'm giving it the driving it deserved in it's sunset years. If I have anything to say about it I'll keep it going for a very long time.
Glow plugs aren't only for IDI diesels. Basically all diesels have them to aid with proper compression ignition during cold starts and they're only really used during the pre-ignition warm up. Once the engine is already running, the glowplugs have no purpose

You missed one kind of injectors there are also pressure driven injectors which don’t require electronics to work but get operated just by the pressure which is sent to them which presses the diesel fuel through a tiny fitting which houses the tip of the injector movable upwards, when now a certain pressure (they are rated in pressure categories) gets sent into the injector it opens and Sprays the fuel mechanically without the need for computers 😊 its normally a lower pressure of 250 bar for example
I like this, much much better than learning about how probability is blah blah blah because things are random and have no definite assurance that a coin will flip a certain way.
Don't F1 engines that run on gas use indirect injection as well? Ignition is initiated in a pre-ignition chamber that then send several columns of flames through numerous holes into the main chamber in different directions to evenly distribute ignition.
@@DTLfan396 so did sky sports and the restriction did lead to the innovation to maximize efficiency and power output. I asked mostly cause I wasn't sure if the f1 implementation would be considered indirect injection as it's slightly different than the one he just talked about in diesel engines.

Hi, I’m just learning about engines as a hobby, solely by TH-cam! It’s great. I have a question: Bart said that with a direct-injection system, the intake valves(s) don’t need to be open for more fuel vapour to be injected into the cylinder (and ignited) to get an extra “kick” after the initial power stroke...so does he mean this creates *another* power stroke and if so, does this effect the power stroke/sequence of the other cylinders or balance of the cylinders? I presume this extra “kick” is initiated and managed by the ECU, which keeps everything working in harmony, so it’s not an issue.
The animation is misleading, fuel is not normally injected well into the power stroke like that. If you did, it would be extremely inefficient (because most of the energy from that extra fuel goes out the exhaust before its had time to do much work) and would casu very high exhaust temperatures which damage catalytic converters. This is how anti-lag systems work in race cars, and why you see flames shooting out their exhausts. In normal, road legal gasoline engines all the fuel is injected before top dead center and the power stroke actually begins (some people like to remap their cars to inject a tiny bit afterwards for the pops and bangs). In Diesel engines the injection volume is split up into several small injections rather than one big lump, to reduce ignition delay and peak cylinder temperatures (which cause high NOx emissions), but all these injections happen in a very fast burst and they're all done at TDC or very soon after. The only time fuel is injected when the piston is moving down is in some cars with Diesel particulate filters, in which a tiny amount of fuel is injected then to heat up the exhaust and force the filter's regeneration from time to time.
How about a science garage on electric engines? It would go something like this. "Here how magnets work! and they are super efficient! SCIENCE GARAGE!"

Throttle body injection is the cheapest, not multi port. Throttle body only requires one injector, sometimes 2 if there's more than 4 cylinders. It works like a glorified carburetor, spraying fuel directly through the throttle plate, or just ahead of it, into the intake manifold.
I think Mazda now uses indirect fuel injection for their new skyactiv engine. It initializes the combustion process in the cylinder itself. iirc the pressure wave from it raises the pressure in the cylinder to ignite the fuel/air mix like a diesel engine.
