such a great journey, i love to see the way to go simple and therefor reliable on the hard way sailing. My great respects and pls go on, can't wait to see next..
Yeh, thank you, there are lots more episodes of this trip in this playlist if you'd like to see loads more! th-cam.com/play/PLZCvVhEwq-eZluQHhMFWvmKpoP0lGI40f.html&si=ZAqHatABTDWJZUI6
The charging cable problem is a common one, I've seen at least one other sailor who takes a zip lock bag(!) of charging cables for his iPhone and just retires them when they fail. Keen to see the return leg.
@@contessa26-jim Oh. Had a super journey home, just short gale for 18hrs in acceleration zone. Made it back to Solent in 15 days. Pushed her harder. Learnt so much both ways. I need to think more about self care, which is why I enjoy your videos. I listen to over two stone !!
@@contessa26-jim I'll second this! Your attitude to sailing is contagious, and as Bob Bitchin said: "Attitude is the difference between an adventure and an ordeal." (I suspect it's always a bit of both.)
Great vid. I hear the sad card is the weak point in pi based systems, but hey good to get the charts out! I have an origo stove and am off to check out your bread making vid next 👍
Yes it's opencpn and I'm very happy with it. Being a basics sailor I don't have a sat phone or internet available offshore so predict wind wouldn't work for me. I get synoptic charts from short wave weatherfaxes which tells me all I need to know, and it's free!
I've decided to take the expert advice that exists and not use it as my main nav device, I'm going to try a tablet with opencpn and use an nmea to WiFi bridge on my AIS transponder, this should give me flexibility and easy redundancy
@@contessa26-jim So a generic tablet with an app trumps a purpose made "marine" chartplotter. Something is wrong with this picture. Fair winds and safe harbours.
@@garymalm I guess it depends on your point of view. For me, yes; a tough w/proof tablet can go in the cockpit when you need it, and by the bunk when you need it, or even in the heads. Also its under £200 where a proper dedicated plotter is multiples of that..
@@contessa26-jim I run two tablets. One with Navionics and one with CMAPS. I bought the second set up because (it was cheap and) I thought the second one has failed. @@contessa26-jimrpis do have an issue if they aren’t shut down ‘properly’ or if one doesn’t patch the OS so that it doesn’t continually write to the sd boot card (assuming sd for boot) as the SD cards don’t handle constant writes well. Good luck?
Sir, you are a hero. Thank you very much for sharing. Inspirational and in the true ocean going sailing fashion.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Eine tolle Reise, unglaublich, dass du das einfach so allein gemacht hast. 👍
What an accomplishment!
@@marcusscrafton535 thanks Marcus
Very enjoyable thanks, lots of chuckles watching this one. Good work getting the gopro working!
Thanks, the gopro problem should have been a no-brainer really!
Thanks very much... still the return journey to put together yet!
Fantastic job! Well done, some tough conditions but great boat and tough captain!
Yeah, such a great little boat, lion-hearted!
Well done Jim, great achievement. Thanks for sharing 🇮🇪
Thank you Ray!

Yes, I think that's the way to go... it's also possible I hadn't pushed the connector in firmly enough! 😅
Great series, and I much prefer to watch than to be doing it.
Thanks! Sometimes when I'm 500 miles form anywhere on a tiny boat bouncing up and down I do think.. 'is this a good idea'!
Congratulations. Great achievement.
Thanks Stephen
Well done
Thanks David 🙂

Well done sir. She might be small, but def seaworthy.
She really is! I was pretty confident this would be the case and after all these miles I'm quite sure of it, she would go anywhere..
I was really looking forward to the beer. I feel cheated.
Oh yes, that would have made the perfect ending shot, I wish I'd thought of that! I must plan ahead better..

Yes I've heard this too and I'm going to go down another road for my primary nav next time, rugged tablet and ais via WiFi..
Great Vid , might be a stupid question , but do you use Predict wind ? , i have seen other sailors use that , if not why ?

@@daverolstone5669 that made me chuckle. I have a plan to use the leftovers of the pie to create a weather fax machine..
