i actually, bought an 8 degree stealth 2, and jacked it up to draw, since i was using 10.5 degree plus 2 degree. realized im actually using a 12.5 degree driver like my wife's driver. so now i'm hitting 10.0 degree with draw and I have increase my drives by 15-25 yards on average. I even smashed one to 250 yards, not even trying. too many injuries in the military, so trying to get back to swinging and this is what I found helps!
Love the video and that you explained what we will see and the differences that we will see when you start the swing demonstration. I am looking forward to your upcoming videos 👍
Great to see you back thomas...im one of many who are inbetween stiff and reg in irons and driver speed ...78mph ..95mph.. a video experimenting different shafts at that speed would be really interesting...i find stiff is more accurate but tad shorter
I used to get 4000 rpm of spin with my driver. I did change my driver head model to a lower spinning head as well, but my club fitter did reduce the loft of my driver my 2 degrees and its now under 3000 rpm! It worked for me!
Went to a 12 degree driver 3 years ago and both carry distance and accuracy greatly tremendously. Driver went from one of my least favorite clubs to now one of my most favorite clubs to hit.
My man! Just what we were talkin about the other day. Great video so insightful. Loft is your friend and hitting up with driver will maximize carry distance. Thank you
Hi Thomas again, can you do a video on the Superspeed sticks ??? Winter golf swing training would be helpful. Enjoy all your videos. Thanks from Canada
Thomas I was worried when I found your channel that the speed would not be relevant. So happy you're swinging at 90MPH in this video's along side your normal. Three years ago I was diagnosed with MS and my swing is exactly 90MPH!. One tail of caution having watched many YT video's on maximising driver I thought I was doing everything right regarding Angle of Attach, hitting up etc but still going nowhere. Recently went on a Trackman and the numbers showed my Driver low point was 18inches behind the ball with an upward AOA of 10 degrees. The guy giving the lesson said my "Spin Loft" was very low and my spin rate was down at 1100 (one was 800) with a 11 degree club. I was hitting up presenting essentially a flat face. We went to a very low tee to get the feeling of hitting down, spin went up to 3000, then back to a normal tee AoA still 4/5 then then with a little adjustment 2/3 up which for my 90MPH swing produced the TM optimal. Like other Asprin analogies tablet rather than bottle.
Great information as usual! I know a ton of golfers who swing 90-98 MPH who are experimenting with a lighter head and shaft to increase swing speed. For example a 430 Max with the back wt removed and a 45 gm shaft. Total club wt under 300 gms. Would be a good video.
Thomas great to find you on TH-cam again!! Question, how will the same test with irons play out? For example a Mizuno jpx pro vs a Mizuno jpx hl. Thanks so much!
Excellent video. I'm in the 85 to 90 mph range so this is good information for me. I'm going to change the loft tomorrow! I have a SIM at home so we'll try both and report back to see if the change made a difference for me!
Great information as usual! I know a ton of golfers who swing 90-98 MPH experimenting with a lighter head and shaft to increase swing speed. For example a 430 max with the back wt removed and a 45 gm shaft. Possible video idea?
I'm around 155 ball speed, playing a 9 degree driver head, but I hit so up on the ball that it lands like a pitching wedge. Any suggestion? carrying around 250 in summer
I have fitted golfers into as low as 6* of loft so that's a thought to bring it down more, or possibly bring that angle of attack down if you can. Try to keep that landing angle between 30-40 degrees with driver
I have somewhat similar swing conditions to you but I get nowhere near those numbers. I was playing a Cobra Aerojet 7.5degree at either 6.5 or 7.5 degrees. I just switched 3 weeks ago to an Ai Smoke TD 9 degree at 8 degrees, unless I'm doing some slower technical work then I set it to 9 degrees. I swing 115-118mph, have an 6-8 degree up angle of attack, somedays its even 10+ up, my launch angle is around 16ish, typical spin now I've switched to a Titleist left dash is down to 1800-2000, ball speed mid to high 160s and if I hit a 1.48 smash (Trackman) I carry it about 280 yards with a straight ish ball flight.
Two questions I would have is 1) what is the landing angle? You want to shoot for between 30-40 degrees with driver. 2) where are you hitting it on the club face? With 115-118 club speed you should be looking at mid 170s ball speed (based off a 1.50 smash with trackman)
@ I’m not sure of my landing angle, I’ll have to check next time I hit as it’s not one of my go-to metrics. I’d say I typically hit the ball a little low heel and then if i over compensate strike goes very high on the face. My ball speed PB is 172. Actually I had my first ever 1.50 smash last week which got me that ball speed pb. I averaged around 1.45 smash with the Cobra and I’m already averaging 1.48 with the Ai Smoke. I think that the Cobra face might have been damaged because even a dead centre strike would only be a 1.47 smash. I honestly think I’ll need to move my club speed pb well past 121 and be cruising above 120 to get a 315+ carry.
Bonjour from France, let's tell that a 12 degrees is useful for amateur players because the trajectory is much better and straight and stays on the fairway. Short fly short grass.
Loft is a good thing for amateur golfers to control accuracy. Too much however and potential distance is wasted. You have to weigh the pros and cons of accuracy and distance too.
@@colinreddick Yep thats all that Decade golf will tell you as well but it obviously depends on the course you play as well. Lots of hazards and OB maybe accuracy is more important?
Higher yes if trying to increase launch angle. The challenge can be keeping the spin rate down. Keep an eye on landing angle / descent angle and keep it between 30-4 degrees
Would you please do a review on the elyte titanium fairway woods, many TH-camrs have done the elyte woods but none of them have even mentioned the titanium woods, is there any difference?
Good video but since the majority of golfers have less than a 90 MPH swing, it would also be helpful to cover strategies for the 70 - 90 MPH golfers (like me).
I like the idea of a video for strategies in that 70-90 mph range. It will be the same concept, a little more loft on the driver and definitely work on angle of attack. A lighter more flexible shaft too like lite flex.
why do you have to change heads and mess with hosel settings? shouldn't you use same head and just change loft up or down? I would understand if one was a 12 to start and other was a 9, but same head. but shouldn't have to change hosel settings? or did I miss something.
I’m guessing here but based of the loft comparisons, he had to use a standard 9 degree head and a 10.5 with plus 2 degrees setting (hosel only allows plus 2 or minus 1 degrees).
I was providing a wider range of loft. Every manufacturer is also different of loft and even if it's independent or changes lie and face angle. Highly recommend getting fit into the correct lofted head first and then adjusting where necessary.
@@pongking That's correct Ideally I had a 12* head but didn't so turned a 10.5* head into 12.5* so I could show a wider range in loft changes. I could had also turned the 9* loft down to 8* but it was already very low spin.

Great tips! I have a real life example of this. I changed from 10.5 degrees to 9 and gained 15 yards. I swing fast so that was my optimal launch!
The faster speed you have generally the less loft you need, and the slower the club speed the more loft you need. Thanks for watching

knocking 1000 rpm of spin off your driver is huge! Very impressive. What driver did you play and what do you play now?
@@thomascampbellgolf Ping G30 12* now Titleist TSR2 10*
@@golfnut1234 That would probably do it to knock some serious spin down
What was your swing speed though?
Great video. Thanks for doing the comparison with the average/slower swing speed👍

Report back please! Keep an eye on your landing angle. 30-40 degrees is optimal
Brilliant video, thanks!
Please could you provide a recommended loft by swing speed and attack angle, in order to maximise carry?
Google Ping optimal launch and spin chart that will get you the ideal launch and spin based on swing speed and attack angle
@thomascampbellgolf I'm looking for optimum loft as the output, based on 2 inputs, ball speed and attack angle. Where can I find that, please?
