One famous German from the Baltic countries was the sniper Bruno Sutkus. He fought as a volunteer in the German Army on the eastern front 1941-45,where had 209 confirmed kills. His father was German from Memel. His mother was Lithuanian. After WW2 Bruno Sutkus fought in the "Forest Brothers Movement".The Baltic Resistance Movement. They fought a furious guerilla war against the Soviet Union 1945-53.
Paldies! My father was a Baltic German and I am researching what happened to my BG side as well as the Lettish in my family. They are scattered, my father as an infant fleeing with my grandparents to the US from Riga........
Even most Germans don't know that. It is a pity that Germans learn so little about their own history. Hungarians for example tend to know much more about German history.

@Kristaps Ozoliņš Well, in that sense, many Baltic-Germans are ethnically mixed with Latvians (or the tribes at the time). Technically they could have been there for 3000+ years too.

Great untold story that only Germans and Latvians know. Thank you for telling the world.

In Sweden we do know about it. As there used to be Swedes on the Baltic islands :)

Why deportation is called emigration? How long will you lie, dear Latvians?!

What exactly is a lie there? in 1939 Latvians certainly weren't in a position to deport anyone
