Because the players/philosophies surrounding them weren't good enough. All the teams with superstars like Messi, Neymar, Rooney, Suarez etc. failed to meet expectations. Because the players/philosophies surrounding them weren't good enough.

there is an easy explaination. as long as there is in MLS not that much money in, like in the european club leagues they will not have good young players. they all play in europe. that is why Gahna is a good team and US was lucky to beat them. all their players do play in some club in europe. my opinoin is, if MLS gets better there will be a drain to european leagues like in south america. better or good players will leave MLS to europe in their late teens or early twentys and play in europe. And if they come home it will be at the end of their career or just after a few years and they simpley weren´t good enough.
