I've had my machine about 12 yrs - did this about 7yrs ago and forgot how to do it- THANKS A MILLION for posting - worked a treat just like the last time I did it (7yrs back) De Longhi Bar 34 - a workhorse - coffee 3-4 times a days for past 12 years + AMAZING value for money! GREAT quality video - well filmed - thanks again.

Thanks mate glad it helped...I like the old delonghi's they are mostly the same inside as the newer models but the build quality was bit better back then... I've just started using an old 860 and it makes coffee exactly like my dedica but looks a lot more premium in build even though the model is over 10 years old.

My neighbour just gave me this exact coffee machine for free because it had the very same leak problem she only bought it brand new a couple of months ago, I followed all the steps on this video and found that the diffuser had spring was completely full of calcium, I cleaned everything thoroughly and adjusted the spring and now it works perfectly with no leak or drips at all, thanks to this video I now have a new coffee machine for free.!! 😁😊

Almost 2024 and this video still working. Thank you. Just to add that after removing the spring it is a good idea to disqualify the internal system. You simply fill the container with water and 100ml of vinegar. Repeat until clean water comes out and rinse.

If your machine is “hissing”. It needs to have the excess steam to be purged.
Then to knob right once to turn on. Then when the green light turns on (ready). Turn on the steam nozzle until the steam is purged. Then wait few minutes (let it cool). Turn it on.
It should have stopped with hissing. If not, you’ll need to clean the machine with a solution.

Very good - worked well with a long-leaking DeLonghi Treviso through the filter cup (with machine on, espressso off, steamer off and hand valve closed).- even the foamer appears more powerful.
I might do to again but try also to clean the hidden SEATING for the plastic ball - maybe a cotton bud, nothing sharp that would etch the presumably metal seating - takes 2 to tango.

Was about to buy a new machine, but I followed this procedure to fix my drip issue. I used my cell phone to take pictures of the brass seat surrounding the screw that keeps the spring in, which pushes the rubber ball against the seat. Mine had some scale buildup on the brass seat, so I used the descale procedure using the descale solution that shipped with my Delonghi machine and the after photos showed that the descaling worked to smooth up the seat so the ball tip on the screw makes a positive seal. Stretching the spring can help, but I would also recommend checking for scale and dealing with that too. Just make sure to run two reservoirs full of clean water through the machine after you run the water/descale solution through so you get rid of the solution to avoid drinking any of it in your espresso.

Just as a comment, you can also use the solution of water and citric acid recommended in the instruction booklet (2 tbsp in the full tank). Citric acid can be purchased cheap in Asian stores, it's used in cooking and is not dangerous. I have been told it's better than vinegar; for sure it's cheaper and doesn't fill the kitchen with the vinegar smell. I live in a hard-water area so I clean ~every 6 mos. Machine still working after 5 years, just a little drip (I will stretch the spring next time, now that I have seen this video) .

You also need to clean the seat where the ball sits. There was gunk around mine and the ball wasn't seating correctly. I used a cotton bud and some alcohol. Also, be careful stretching the spring so you don't deform it; it has to sit straight so the ball fits flush.

My machine was leaking, and I couldn't figure out why. Moved it off the counter and found "some weird spring" under it. Had no idea what it was from so I set it aside. I never would have known this went in, or when the hell I even took it apart for it to have fallen out 😅

Nice one. Exactly the same setup as the Delonghi BCO 410. Mine was dripping and leaking steam through here when I activated the milk frother, and it was resulting in the frother crapping out a mixture of colder water, not holding pressure and temp. I had to keep waiting for it to build up pressure again. This worked perfectly, thanks. Got a big bunch of limescale flowing out when cleaning it, so I suppose that was mostly the problem, and a bit of grit too..

Really good video. I have done this fix twice and it worked a treat. Thank you! However, got the dripping again but I can no longer get the gold flat edge screw out. It neither tightens or unscrews, so now it just steams heavily, over heats and cuts the electricity out. Don't suppose you have experienced this? I guess there is nothing I can do if I can't get that gold screw out.

    • @dmcerrrmmmm

@@dmcerrrmmmm Ah damn, that is a shame and feared that would be the case. Thanks for replying on that, at least I now know for sure. I also have had some good use out of it, used it pretty much two or three times a day for a few years now!! Time to get a new one I reckon!

In case this helps anyone, instead of a flathead screwdriver, I use a adjustable spanner. Gets much better grip on that brass/gold looking screw out. But sounds more like your thread might be stripped if it's turning but not moving looser or tighter. You could try a tap & die set, but that could get messy / mess things up more / need a new screw insert thing.

I know this is a 6 year video and not the same machine but what did you use to clean screw and spring?

    • @IceFraud
      @IceFraud 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I ended up cleaning it with just water. I wouldn't worry too much about how you clean it, mainly get rid of all the gunk.
Also just a heads up, don't be afraid to expand the spring. Thing's real strong and sturdy. If you happen to break it, you can buy a replacement online for $6. I bought one just in case since I get these leaks often lol. Hope this helps.
